Bringing Us Together

(A/N): This was based off a pretty weird dream I had a few nights ago lolol

It was such a beautiful day today. You were out shopping in the busy city with your best friend for the day and the two of you were having so much fun.

"Where should we head next?" They asked.

"We should go eat somewhere. I'm really hungry" you reply.

"Sure."

You then stop, suddenly.

"Hang on a second" you say.

"What's up?" Your friend turns around to see you crouched down in front of a homeless man.

"Good afternoon sir. Here, take this and buy some food for yourself" you say giving him a £5 note.

"That's quite a lot of money. Are you sure?" He asked.

"I insist, sir" you say with a smile.

"Wow. Thank you. That's very nice of you" the man smiled.

"I'm happy to be of help. I hope good things come your way!" You say.

The man then took a hold of your hand and held it tight.

"God bless you. You are such a nice girl. I hope you have a bright future, yourself. Thank you again for your kindness."

Your friend, who was watching this, smiled at the sweet sight.

"I have to go now. I hope you are able to live the life you dream of and achieve your goals!" You say standing up.

"The same to you. God bless you. Thank you. You are very kind" the man waves goodbye to you as you and your friend leave.

"What a nice girl she is. I'll certainly remember her anyway."

The man then spotted another young man standing next to him. He was hunched over and had dark, messy hair. He appeared to be watching you and your friend leave, looking kind of amazed.

That was L, your ex.

"I bet you saw what she did huh?" The homeless man said to L who looked over at him.

"That girl is very nice. Do you know her, by any chance?" He asked.

"Indeed I do" L replied.

"She's my ex..."

That sure surprised the homeless man.

"What? You mean to tell me that you were in a relationship with her but now your not?"

L nodded.

"What happened?! How could you lose such a nice girl?!"

"It's kinda complicated, but I guess you could say that I was scared. I couldn't protect (Y/N), so I thought she'd be better with someone else. And now we never see each other again..."

L looked down at the ground.

"I failed at being the one she needed. She got hurt because of me. That's why I let her go..."

"I understand what you're saying, son. But...It's okay. Everyone has their own weaknesses. I can tell you would have tried your very best to help and protect the girl. Even if she got hurt, I'm sure she was grateful for you trying to protect her" the man said.

L looked up at him in surprise.

"The way I see it, it's not about whether you can actually protect them or not, it's whether or not you're willing to risk your life to save someone. If you even think of risking your life to save the one you love, that is something special, and no one should have to lose a person like that."

L's eyes widened. He looked back down the busy shopping streets to see you, helping a young boy.
He had let go of his balloon and started crying, so you bought him another one.

L watched as the boy smiled at you and gave you a hug. The boy's parents thanked you too.

"Look at that kind girl. She has such a pure heart. Now, I don't know this girl, but I can analyse people very well. It's clear that she is always there for other people and will do anything to make them happy...but...there doesn't seem to be anyone there for her" the man said, looking worried.

"(Y/N) isn't really the one to care about her own wellbeing. She just cares about making sure everyone else is safe and happy. And she doesn't even expect anything in return. I respect that" L smiles sadly.

The man looked at L, before looking back at you. He was silent for a second before saying:

"I also have respect for her and I've only just met her today. However, I can tell she really wants...no...needs someone by her side to help her. I'm certain she has her own problems and she can't get through them on her own..."

"That's why she has her best friend to help her out. They offer the best support to (Y/N). She...She doesn't need me in her life anymore, so I'll stay away..."

The homeless man gasped as he noticed a small tear fall down L's cheek.

The man then stood up and put his hands on L's shoulders.

"Listen to me, son! Yes, it's good to have a best friend to support you, but it isn't the same as having someone who really, REALLY loves you! You are a coward for abandoning her the way you did! She really needed you and you just left like that?! Just because one time, you failed to protect her?! That's so stupid! Then that's your chance to become stronger so you can protect her!"

L was in shock that some homeless man was yelling at him.
But...he was trying to talk some sense into L. Maybe he should listen.

The man let go of L and sat back down.

"Sorry...I got a little carried away there. I just want you to understand that you can fix this. You can become a stronger person for (Y/N). All you have to do is believe you can. I'm certain she'll forgive you."

"No...There's no way I can fix the mess I made. You're right, I'm a coward for abandoning (Y/N) like that" L states.

"Listen, son. I can tell you really want her back, you're just scared to approach her after what you did. But I am certain she wants you back too!"

The two men looked over at you and your best friend laughing and joking around.

"That's the face of a girl who is going through some hard times. Smiling on the outside, crying on the inside" the man said.

"Yeah..." L whispered.

"Go after her. What she really needs is you by her side once again. I can feel it."

L looked down at the man, surprised by what he said. The homeless man flashed him a bright smile.

"Go! Now! Before she disappears again!"

L hesitated before he made a run for it.

"Good...He finally understood what it means to really be a man..." the man smiled as he watched L run.

L ran as fast as he could. He never knew his body was capable of running this fast. Or maybe it was because he was running after you that his body decided to make him go faster than he had ever ran before.

He didn't stop. He already lost you once, he wasn't going to lose you again. The man was right! What you need more than anything, is L to be by your side. So he wasn't going to stop until he caught up with you.

He then saw you and your friend getting into a taxi.

"No...!"

L sprinted for the taxi, just as it was about to drive away.

"Stop! Don't drive away just yet!" L yelled, gasping for breath as he reached the taxi.

"L...?" Your eyes widened. You never thought you'd see him again. Why was he here?

You rolled down the window of the door.

"L? What's going on? What are you doing here?" You ask.

"(Y/N), I need to talk to you..." L stated.

You gasp.

"Oh please! It'll probably just be another one of his excuses" your best friend said. "Pathetic L!"

"JUST HEAR ME OUT!" L snapped, surprising the two of you.

"(Y/N), I know you probably can't forgive me for abandoning you...but I want to make things right again!"

You were silent, before you open the taxi door and step out.

"Listen (Y/N). It was wrong for me to abandon you when you really needed me. I was just...so scared and I felt so bad because I wasn't able to protect you! Since I couldn't protect you, you got burned in that fire that one criminal set! Now those burns will turn into scars and they will remain on your body forever! All because I couldn't protect you!"

"So...you aren't proud of my scars...?" You ask, tears forming in your eyes.

"How DESPICABLE!" Your friend snapped.

"That's not it at all! It's just...I noticed your confidence drop because you didn't want anyone to notice your burns! You were really ashamed of your burns...That would never have happened if I could just protect you! I'm so sorry (Y/N)!"

You were silent. Your friend scoffed.

"You do realise that just because you failed to protect me once, doesn't mean it's the end of the world. You didn't have to leave me like that" you spoke up.

"You're not wrong about that. But I've realised now that I can become a stronger person for you (Y/N). I may have failed to protect you last time, but I promise to be stronger...for you!"

"This is so cliché! Come on (Y/N), we gotta get a move on!" Your friend said.

"Wait a minute!" You shout to her.

"...okay..."

"L...I..."

"I should never have abandoned you (Y/N). You really needed me and I just left. That was the biggest mistake I had ever made! Please (Y/N)! I...I want to be useful to you again. I don't want to hurt you like that ever again! I really love you! I've missed you so much too...I hope you didn't forget that..."

"You didn't stand by me when I was really hurting! I was so scared L!" You shout.

"I know! And everyday since, I've beat myself up over it! But I promise I can change!"

You gasp as you notice L cry! He had never cried in front of you before...

Is he serious...?

"I understand you wouldn't accept me again after all that I've done, but I'm grateful you at least heard me out..."

Silence again...

"I should go..." L wiped his tears and turned to leave but you wrap your arms around him from behind and bury your face in his back.

"(Y/N)..." L gasped before crying again.

"I've missed you too..." you whisper.

"R-Really?"

"All this time, I just wanted you by my side! I never wanted you to leave me! I never wanted anyone else either! I just wanted you! Now you've come back for me! You never really hated me!" You start sobbing into his shirt.

"Of course not (Y/N)! I never hated you! I just thought that you deserved better than me...but that never stopped me from loving you" L sobs.

"No one can ever replace you! You're so special to me L! Don't leave me ever again!"

"I won't. I wouldn't dream of it...So does that mean you want me back?"

"YES! Of course!"

"I'm so happy...Thank you for hearing me out (Y/N)..."

Soon, the two of you were sobbing in the middle of the busy streets in front of a taxi.

After a moment, L turned around to face you, but before he had a chance to see your face again, you leapt and kissed his soft, sweet lips that you had been dying to kiss again. L returned the gesture and wrapped his arms around you.

"I promise I'll never hurt you again (Y/N)!" L says, hugging you as tight as he could but being careful not to hurt you.

"Thank you for coming back to me L" you hug him back, smiling.

"Thank you for accepting me again (Y/N)" he smiled.

"Yeah, that's nice and all, but can we go now? I have to meet my Uncle later! We have to go now! Let's go (Y/N)!" Your friend begged.

"I should leave you to get back" L said.

"You can jump in with us!" You state, grabbing L's hand and pulling him into the taxi.

"A-Are you sure it's no trouble for you?" L asks as the two of you sit down in the seats.

"Of course not!" You smile at him and rest your head on his shoulder.

"Thank you (Y/N). I love you."

"I love you too."

The taxi soon drove away.

The homeless man watched the taxi go and smiled to himself.

"I told you that she would accept you, son. I felt it. She really did miss you. Good things do happen to good people."

(A/N): Yeah, a bit of a weird dream huh? I do dream some weird shit 🤷‍♀️
Anyways, hope you enjoy! ^^
