L's Pov

It was (Y/N)'s birthday today and I had a surprise for her.

I didn't want to overdo anything. She didn't want a birthday party, so I didn't arrange one.

Instead, I invited some friends over to a small apartment I had Watari rent for the day.
I invited (Y/N)'s best friend, (F/N), and my successors, Near, Mello and Matt.

I had organised everything. It was all in place. We just had to wait for (Y/N).

I decided to give Watari a call. He said he would pick up (Y/N) and tell her he would be taking her to the taskforce, but instead the two of them would be coming here.

I pulled out my cell phone and called Watari.

"Watari. How's everything going?"

"Good so far. I'm just waiting for (Y/N) to come out. I gave her a call and told her I'd be picking her up".

"Be sure to get here as soon as you can, okay?"

"Of course Ryuzaki".

I hung up. I hope everything runs smoothly.

(Y/N)'s Pov

I walked out my house and towards the limousine in front of me.

Watari was standing there and he opened the door to let me in.

"What is this, all of a sudden?" I ask, putting my seatbelt on.

"What do you mean?" Watari asked as he came in, started the car and drove off.

"You suddenly coming to pick me up. I always walk to headquarters myself you know, so why the sudden change? Is something happening?" I ask.

"Well, actually...yes", Watari replied as he turned the car around a corner and down a road I was not familiar with!

"Wait a second! This isn't the way to the taskforce!" I shout.

"We're not going to the taskforce (Y/N)", Watari replied.

"Then where? What?"

"Just sit tight (Y/N)", Watari said.

I ran a hand through my (H/C) hair and sighed.

The car soon pulled up outside some fancy looking apartment.

"Where are we? Why did you bring me here Watari?" I ask, looking around.

"It is your birthday today, isn't it?" Watari asked, knocking on the door.

"Huh? Y-Yeah! But-"

"It's unlocked! Let yourselves in", a voice from inside said.

L?

"Come on (Y/N)", Watari said, gesturing for me to go inside the apartment.

I walk inside, still quite confused about what was going on here.

Soon, I was greeted by familiar faces.

"Hey you three!" I say as Mello, Near and Matt rush over to me, giving me a hug. I hug back

"Happy Birthday (Y/N)!" They say, breaking the hug. Near then hands me a present.

"It's from the three of us", he said.

"Wow! Thanks guys!" I say, unwrapping the present.

"Awesome! Deadman Wonderland manga!" I say.

I loved that series!

"Happy Birthday (Y/N)!" My best friend came out from the kitchen carrying a present.

"Holy crap! (F/N)!" I yell, giving the (boy/girl) a hug.

"I know. It's been a long time!" (He/she) said back to me. "Now open your present!"

I began tearing away the paper and gasped at my present.

It was a photo frame of (F/N) and I when we were kids.

"I can't believe you still had that photo!" I say.

"I've treasured that photo for a long time", (F/N) said back.

"Thanks for the presents everyone, but I'm a little concerned. Why did you decide to celebrate my birthday here?" I ask.

"Well, you didn't want a lot of people around for your birthday, (Y/N). You didn't want a party or anything, so we came someplace quieter", Watari said.

"Oh I see!"

"Only one present left (Y/N)!" (F/N) said to me. (He/she) seemed to be really excited. "Head upstairs to the bedroom! L's waiting for you!"

"Oh, okay?" I say, very confused now.

I walk upstairs to the bedroom, everyone following me, very excited for some reason.

I knock on the door.

"L?" I called.

"Come in (Y/N)", he called back.

I walk into the bedroom and close the door behind me.

L was facing the window, but then turned to face me. He smiled at me.

"Happy Birthday (Y/N)", he said.

"Thank you", I reply. But I'm still quite confused.

"I have a present for you", L said to me.

I could hear everyone freak out outside the door.

'What could possibly be that exciting?' I thought.

It was then I realised L stick a hand into his pocket and pull out a small box.

'Wait... Wait!' I thought.

L got down on one knee and opened the box.

'Shit! Shit!' I could feel my heart pounding. I thought I was going to explode!

"(Y/N), will you marry me?" L asked, giving me a warm smile.

I felt my cheeks heat up. My eyes soon got teary and soon I broke down crying.

"Yes...YES!!!" I yell, squealing and sobbing of happiness at the same time!

I could hear everyone scream and jump outside the bedroom.

So that's what they were so excited about! They couldn't wait for my reaction!

"I'm so happy", L got up and placed the ring on my finger.

I was still crying! I couldn't stop! I was so happy!

L wiped my tears away with his sleeve and looked into my eyes.
I could see his eyes were starting to water as well.

I started giggling whilst crying again. L pulled me into a tight hug and soon we both began sobbing into each other's shirts.

Soon, the door burst open.

"CONGRATULATIONS!!!" (F/N) screamed, popping about seven party poppers!

L and I started laughing.

"I can't believe I'll be able to call you my wife soon!" L said to me.

I couldn't say anything. I was speechless! I just laughed again.

"Happy Birthday beautiful!" L then gave me another hug and planted a soft kiss on my forehead.

It was the best day of my life!
