Intruder
Ignoring the shocked people around us, Jane came running towards me, embracing me as tigh as she could.
For a joyfull moment nothing existed but us.
Then reality formed around us again.
We shut the door and locked it. Whatever -whoever- was down there, we had to handle it for them. They were all either injured, knocked out or freshly traumatized; we couldn't leave them with some intruders.
After observing every room we figured out what to do. There was just one man. He broke in, clearly wanting more than just robbing this place. His face was covered with a white mask which portrayed a face, frozen in a painful smile.
He sat at the kitchen counter, sharpening the blade of a bloody knife. Now he had to pay for hurting Riley.
He picked the wrong house for his psycho plays.
I walked downstairs.
"Hello? Is there anyone?" I tried sounding as frightened as I could.
I arrived at the kitchen. No one was there.
"Hello?" Again, no answer.
I walked through the narrow hallway that led to the cellar, my shaking hand reaching for the handle.
However, I heasitated.
In the shimering gold of the handle I saw my reflection. And a tall figure behind me.
I turned around and shrieked. He raised his knife but I ran through the gap between him and the wall. He could've easily stopped me, but he didn't.
Before I was out of the hallway, I felt his harsh grip on my shoulder. He turned me around and pushed me to the ground. The knife was thrown away behind him and he hit me in the face. He tried to pull me back to the cellar door. After kicking around me like I lost my mind he finally let off me. Taking the chance I ran away, up the stairs again.
He could've easily murdered me (at least he thought he could, if only he knew...) nevertheless he seemed like he, as the hunter, wanted to play with his prey, me.
And the game didn't even start yet.
I hurried into the bathroom, closing the door louder than I should have so he wouldn't even think of entering another room.
The hinges screeched, announcing him.
I laid in the bathtub, waiting for him to find me. He took longer than expected to do so, probably trying to scare me.
Then, his shadow appeared on the light blue shower curtain.
He tore it to the side and I screamed. He grabbed me by my hair and pulled me out of the bathtub.
I laid there on the cold floor. He was in front of me, blocking the way out.
Slowly he knelt down over me.
I started crying, tearless sobs echoing in the cold room.
Then he stabbed me in my chest. Again and again and again.
And my fake crying turned into laughter. His arm froze in the motion when he realized that the knife didn't harm me.
As a living human he couldn't harm me at all.
He backed off, confused. I kept on laughing. Hysterically. Without joy.
And then, I was gone. Well, at least for him. He couldn't see me anymore even though I was still besides him.
A sinister silence filled the bathroom. The lightbulb bursted. I could see the white mask frantically moving, trying to figure out what was happening.
He stood up and started walking, his hands reached out infront of him, until he was able to hold the sides of the sink. He stared into the mirror without seeing his reflection due to the darkness, when Jane appeared on the other side of the mirror. But she didn't look like herself. She was looking like a woman with dark brown braids thrown over her shoulders and bright blue eyes. She seemed tall and pale.
The intruders eyes showed his aghast when he noticed the woman, Jane, who was replacing his reflection in the mirror.
She tilted her head as if she'd examine her face. Everything looked normal. Then, slowly she opened her mouth, trying to stick out her tounge, but there was only a fleshy stub in her throat.
"Ef me bah my houne!" she suddenly cried out. She wanted to tell him to give her back her tounge, however without said body part she had problems saying certain letters. She hit against the mirror from the other side, screaming, blood was flowing out of her mouth. Another person appeared behind her, they were missing their eyes. "Give them back! Give me my eyes back!" They yelled.
More and more people that were missing a body part, with bleeding wounds started to appear. All of them were screaming and punching against the mirror, trying to get to the intruder, wanting him to give back what he took from them.
All of them were his victims. People he has murdered over the years.
The mirror started to get cracks. The intruder stepped back, turning around, facing the wall. The door was gone.
The toungeless woman managed to punch her fist threw the mirror. The others calmed down. Silence again.
He gulped. His gaze fell on the bathtub. He ran towards it and jumped in, opening the tap filling his mouth with water.
Meanwhile the toungless woman was already halfway crawling out of the mirror, the others were trying to get out too.
He looked at them one last time.
Then he pulled out a gun of the inside of his jacket, held it right under his head, behind his chin.
The echo of the shot filled the room.
As soon as he was dead the bathroom was as it has been before. Just with an additional corpse.
Jane stepped besides me.
"He did it on his own, we won't get any scars. Maybe we'll wither for triggering him, but honestly, he deserved it anyway"
I nodded and together we buried the body near the forest.
When we went back we heard voices from the living room.
Asha, Mikey and Riley had broken the door of the bedroom and were now arguing about what had happened.
Without the necessary background information nothing made sense.
All they knew was that they witnessed supernatural forces.
After some time they processed everything and calmed down.
"You're sure you're fine?" Riley asked Mikey for the probably hunderth time.
"Well, you're the one with a bandage around his arm, at least I'm not bleeding to death, couldn't say the same about you" they joked.
Asha rolled her eyes, but couldn't resist smiling at the two men, "Anyways, I think I know what we can do" they stated, "but for now we should probably sleep, don't you think?"
The others nodded in agreement with tired eyes, glad that they can rest now.
I had an odd feeling about what they were going to do. I just hoped it wouldn't affect me and Jane.
If only I would've known that things would be going south, even more than before.
An// good night
