Axe

Tw: rape (it'll get mentioned in the next chapters too)

The clear water was steaming. Only Mikeys short torso was looking out of it, his chest full of tiny red hairs and freckles, a phone in his hand.
"Ugh, why are there so many weirdos on dating websites? Honestly, I can't find one decent man on the internet, it's frustrating, I'll just delete that fucking app and accept my fate to be single forever"

Asha whom had her toothbrush in their mouth just grunted in agreement.

"Nevermind, I think I found someone I can imagine marrying." he suddenly exclaimed happily while siting in the bathtub Jane had died in.
Obviously he didn't know that, though.

With an eyeroll Asha put their toothbrush away and asked her friend:"You know, if it doesn't work out with that one you could still try going out and socialize with others, maybe then you'd find someone"

Mikey laughed at that as if it would've been a joke and then focused on the small screen again.

After a while Asha left, they wanted to try to make pictures of the sunset with the old Polaroid camera they had found in a second hand shop. Also she wanted to take a look at the new area. Meanwhile Mikey would have a guy over. They just knew him for half an hour and were already heads over heals for the unknown lover, much to the dissatisfaction of Asha, since she thought he didn't know that man well enough. But he said if they can be outside when it's dark, then he can let strangers in their house.

While Mikey made everything ready for his date, I went up to Jane.
I have taken a picture of her with Ashas camera, so I'll always have her with me, even though we both couldn't leave a certain area around the house, so we'd never be that far apart.
I had it just in case.
It showed her ravishing side profile, she looked peaceful. Unlike now.

It seemed like she had a nightmare, it hurt to see her turn from side to side with a painful expression on her face, and there was nothing I could do against it.

Suddenly she grabbed my wrist.
Pictures flashed in front of my eyes.
A plastic cup filled with a black liquid. A blurry crowd. A skull. A bed. Pain. White.

She let off me. I didn't understand those insight of her nightmare at all.
I left with a bad feeling.

In the house it smelled anazing. Mikey cooked for his date and for the first time I missed eating.
I leaned over the pot on the stove and saw golden twirling spaghetti with chopped vegetables between the thin noodles, like ornaments.
Meanwhile there was garlic bread getting a tan in the oven.

It knocked. Three heavy, equally lasting thumbs against the wooden door.
The short demiman hurried to open it.
In his magenta button up shirt he gazed out, keen on seeing the other person.

It was a tall man with a boxer cut. The sleeves of his navy blue shirt were rolled up, a cane in his left hand.
His eyes were milky white and he seemed to look into nothing.

"Riley, hey! Come in, I cooked something for us, getting to know each other is always better with food. Well, anything is better with food, really" they were obviously nervous, but still had a smile on his face.

"Hi, nice to meet you. You're totally right and, dang, that smells amazing"

Mikey thanked him and headed towards the kitchen counter pulling a bar stool back for his guest to sit.

Riley leaned his cane on the wall, he had his shoes in his hands, standing there a bit lost.

"Oh, you can put them on that shelve over there. Come, sit down. I hope you like spaghetti. And sorry for the mess, we just moved in. Anyway I've seen that picture of you with your cat, it's really cute. What's the name of the cat?" Mikey startedto babble while pouring water into two glasses.

Meanwhile Riley was sliding his hand down the wall until he reached the shoe shelve. Then with careful slow steps he walked towards Mikey.
"His name is Charlie, he's turned nine years recently. You've got any pets?"

Mikey eyed him up curiously. "Nah, I don't know if I could handle the responsibilities. By the way, is it in the realm of possibilities that you can't see properly?"

"Right, I forgot to mention, I'm blind. Sorry if my behavior seemed strange" he answered eventually.

"God, I'm so sorry that I just left you there in the doorway, I shouldn't have assumed you'd find your way somewhere you've never been before"

"It's fine, as long as there aren't any bear traps laying around" he stated jokingly and earned a laugh.

"I pulled out chair, a bar stool actually, for you to sit on just a few steps on the right from where you stand. If you need help walking there don't bother to tell me"

"I got it. Thanks for not treating me like a toddler, honestly I hate it when people act like I can't do anything on my own. I'm disabled, not stupid. Whatever. So, why'd you move here?"

The two of them started to talk and eat. The awkward getting to know each other phase was over pretty soon and they clicked immediately.
It was cute to watch them. How Mickey would blush when Riley complimented them and the way Riley would constantly smile while Mickey talked.
After some time the houseowner gave his date a little tour, so he'd find his way better without help. I knew that this wasn't the last time he'd be here.

At last they sat down in the living room, the topics of their talking more private.
When there was a short break of silence, Mikey got up, "I'll be right back. It's already pretty late and Asha still hasn't come home, I'll give her a call real quick"

Riley nodded and Mickey disappeared upstairs.
They went into their bedroom and grabbed his phone.
It ringed five times and no one picked up, they seemed to get nervous, until Asha answered the call after the sixth ring.
She let them know that shes fine and he could expect them anytime soon. Relived he threw his phone on the bed and turned around, bumping against a chest.

It was Riley. Well, it looked like it was him. Even though I was certain that he didn't leave the living room.
"Oh, I didn't notice you there, sorry" Mikey started to apologize, however Riley didn't say anything. He just slid his hand up underneath Mikeys shirt.
Something seemed off. The tall man didn't seem to be his self, there was something cold, something wrong around him, something that wasn't there before. Mikey noticed that too.

"I- sorry, could you please don't-" they tried to reject the other one, but he suddenly pierced him to the bed.
"Okay, now get fucking off me, that's too much" He tried to free himself from the strong grip. With no use.

And then, from one moment to another,  there wasn't Riley sitting on top of Mickey. It was the demon with the half skull face.

The sight of the grimace above him made Mikey freeze. He wasn't used to people turning out to be demons whom only possess one half of a face.

I had to get rid of him for final. Nevertheless I didn't know how. The only one who could think of something was not able to wake up.

"Oh my-, bitch I'll fucking kill you!" Asha came running inside, wanting to help her friend, however, before she was even near him, the demon made a waving hand gesture towards them and they got slammed against the wall, going unconscious.
Human against demon wasn't a fair fight.

Grinning, the demon looked down at Mickey. They had closed their eyes, probably thinking this would be only a bad dream he would wake from in a minute. A long, uncomfortable minute.

Suddenly a tinny, light blue plastic cup came flying out of the dark hallway, hitting the back of the demon.
Angry he looked back, his eye fixing me for a second, then the open door.
Nothing.

Then, out if nowhere, someone ran screaming inside, an axe raised above their head. And they hit off the human half of the demons face.
The expression of the now full skull face was blank.
I recognized the person who now rammed the axe into his stomach.
It was Jane.
Her short hair tousled, wild looking.
The demon fell on the ground.
She raised the axe as high up as she could and cut off his head. The weapon stuck in the floor and the demon burst into a cloud of grey dust.

She looked at me and started to smile.
"I missed you"
I smiled back at her.
"I missed you too"

After I finished my sentence, Riley, the real one, burst in.
His arms were covered with blood.
How was that possible?
Now all demons were gone.
And if it wasn't something supernatural that cut those long lines into his skin,,, then who did?

An// I hope I did the disabled representation right. I don't know anyone who's blind and don't want to spread stereotypes. I'll just do Google researches and hope it'll be fine.
This chapter is kinda weird, but necessary for the plot, you'll find out soon enough.
Happy new year btw
Anyway,  have a good night
