We stared at the dream catcher that was laying on a white sheet of paper.
"How could we forget that?" Jane went with her hand threw her short black hair and sighed.
All three of the living humans got one to prevent their nightmares and traumatic memories to become demons; we already have enough of them anyways.
Aaron and Liam thought they were from Ava and the little girl got hers from me. However last night Liam slept on the couch, far away from his dream catcher.
This night we'd get a new guest and it wouldn't be a friendly one.
"Maggie?" Jane pointed out of the window. Nevertheless the rainy weather, Aaron and Ava were outside. Going for a walk, visiting one of the neighbors, it didn't matter, they were gone.
Liam was alone. If dead people count then we were his only company.
He stormed upstairs, holding a crowbar in his left hand.
He tried to break open the door that was closed and had no key.
I vaguely remembered that the estate agent had said that it led to an attic, however no one could tell for sure since that room wasn't on any of the house plans.
He violently rammed the crowbar into the sloth besides the door handle and tried with all his strength to lever it open.
Jane and I watched him from save distance.
After fifteen minutes he threw the metal away and scowled in frustrated anger.
He punched the white wooden door, sweat was running down his forehead.
"Millie, Caitlin, I know you are in here!" He yelled with red face.
"Open the goddamn door and show yourselves!"
He kicked the door, leaving a dent in it.
"Why are you here? I was fourteen, I didn't want to harm you, you know I didn't want to, it was a mistake, just a mistake! It took me some time but I figured that you are Ava's 'imaginary' friends. She told me that you are hiding here!" The madness in his voice was making me shiver.
He thought that we were Ethan's triplet sisters. He found out that two ghosts were in this house, still he was wrong with the identities of the ghosts.
When Ava was asking me where my room was, what felt like ages ago, I have told her that it was at the top. I have been talking about the roof, but the attic is also something that I could've meant.
Now Liam was trying to get in there, not knowing how wrong he was with his conclusions.
He broke down on the ground, his hands in his hair, mumbling something about past mistakes.
Suddenly the door fell open.
Liam fell on his back into the doorway. For a minute he was speechless, then he went inside the unknown area. The darkness swallowed him.
Slowly I followed him, after I was at the other side of the doorframe I heard Jane "Wait, come back!" She came running towards me, a shadow slowly covering her but I realized to late what was happening.
The door slammed shut, separating us.
I tried to use the abilities I gained after dying and wanted to just walk through the wall, back to Jane.
However, I bumped against massive stone.
I was trapped in here, wether I liked it or not. I could at least keep an eye on Liam as long as I'm locked.
But why couldn't I walk through the wall?
I pushed that thought away, eyeing the unknown territory up.
It was dark, on my right was nothing, on my left was a staircase.
How nice.
It was narrow and steep.
After climbing it up I arrived at a large attic. The room flickered for a second, dark grey fog making everything disappear as if my eyes weren't sure if they saw the right thing. Then it was normal again.
Everywhere were cardboard boxes and old furniture covered in thick layers of dust.
It was dark and stuffy, there wasn't a single window.
I had the luck of having the ability to low key see in the dark. Thanks to my undead eyes.
Liam however had to take out a crimson lighter and lit it up. The tinny flame helped me to have a better sight too.
The tall man looked around, not sure what to do.
He glanced at the things around him until something caught his eye.
It was a bunch of Polaroids.
They were all just black.
Under them was a cassette with the title 'I know what you did in the forest'.
Out of nowhere a tv turned on. It was one of those old ones that were huge but had small screens.
It only showed black and white dots and made noise.
Liam put the cassette into the video player with trembling hands and pressed play.
The video started.
It showed three little kids, barley ten years old, playing among tall trees. The leaves already started to change colors and fall down, however it was still warm since they were wearing summer clothes.
"Caitlin! Ethan is it, come on I know where he won't find us" the two little girls, no doubt, Millie and Caitlin, giggled and disappeared behind the bushes.
A boy their age, Ethan, yelled behind them "You need to hurry, I'm right behind you! But don't forget that we're not allowed to get near the river!" He smiled, leaning against a tree, letting his sisters have a minute to run away before following them.
The screen went grey, then it showed another scene.
It was the perspective of someone walking towards the two girls whom were out of breath hiding behind a huge tree stomp from their brother.
"Liam?"
One of the brunette girls asked after spotting the person.
"Oh my, you're so creepy. What are you doing here? Honestly, don't you have any hobbies? I mean, except for creeping around and spying on girls that are certainly not your age"
The other girl was speaking this time with an annoyed tone.
The person, Liam, was just watching them.
"Millie," Caitlin turned to her sister, "lets go back to Ethan and ask him if he wants to go the library, I need to return Nancy Drew, plus a specific fourteen year old someone is currently ruining my mood with his presence"
Millie nodded and both of them were about to leave.
Meanwhile Liam raised a gun, the same that was now taped behind a drawer.
A loud bang tore the silence and Caitlin broke down on the with leaves covered ground, a hole in her neck.
Blood was running out of the wound like a waterfall, turning the back of the white flower dress she was wearing red.
"Caitlin!" Millie got down on her knees, turning her sister around to look in her face. The light of life was fading away from her eyes.
Liam was standing behind her, holding the gun at her head.
"What coward shots someone from behind you fucking-?"
A second shot.
She dropped dead too.
The screen was grey again. A new scene.
Ethan was walking around, looking for his sisters.
Then he heard a shot. His whole body got stiff. He slowly touched his neck.
The second shot. He ran a hand through his hair, holding the back of his head for a second. Then he started running.
When he arrived at the scene of crime tears shot into his eyes.
"Millie! Caitlin!" He cried out.
His gaze met Liam, a hundred of emotions in his face.
"Ethan," Liam began, "I have heard the shots, I wanted to help, but all I found was..."
He made a gesture towards the two corpses.
The picture focused on them. Millie was laying over Caitlin, the back of her head was blown away, a bloody mass covering the ground. The other girl was pale, the pink in her cheeks gone, every ounce of blood her body had was spilled, forming a heart shaped puddle on the earth, which was drinking the liquid like rain water.
"Ethan, you need to listen to me. Your sisters are dead, but I am not. If anyone finds out that I touched the murder weapon I'll be going to prison and no one will make the extra work to find the real murderer. I'm your best friend, do you want me to get arrested and my whole life ruined for trying to help?"
The younger boy shook his head, tears were falling down from his cheeks.
"Right. Take this." He handed him the gun. "Hide it somewhere where no one will ever find it, can you do that? I will call the authorities and when you'll come back you act like you weren't here before. Okay?"
Ethan slowly nodded.
The screen turned grey.
Liam was standing there, no color in his face. He was like hypnotized.
"no. no. no." He started to mumble. Then he grabbed the tv and threw it on the ground. The screen shattered, leaving thousands of tinny glass pieces. He took the cassette and ripped out the tape, throwing it against the wall.
I had an idea what I could do. There was a red marker on top of a box with the message 'enjoy' on its front.
I took the marker and wrote three letters on the wall.
Why?
I dropped the pen. The sudden noise drew the attention of the terrible man I was locked up with.
He stared at the word, his lips closed to a line so tightly that they turned white. An outburst of words followed.
"I don't know! I never wanted to do anything like that. Girls were either ignoring my existence or they were falling for me, but these two, with their sarcastic comments and everything they.. they" hurt your stupid male ego. I finished the sentence for him in my mind.
"And then I found that weapon in a parking lot and... it was like I couldn't control myself, like I've been... possessed. I held the gun in my hands and a voice inside me told me that I HAVE to do that, and if Ethan wouldn't have hid it, then I think I would have done more...
But I swear, I've only did it again because Ethan knew it, I just couldn't let anyone make my actions public.. I..."
He starred into nowhere, touching his neck, silently saying "I think I'll do it again"
He remained silent, walking up and down while bitting on his nails and throwing a look at the broken tv and the wall every now and then.
Obviously he didn't take the blame for his own actions.
I didn't want to be around him anymore, so I went downstairs and was trying to think of a way to get out of here.
A few minutes passed by and the door opened seemingly on its own. I hurried to leave before it'd change it's mind and close again. On the other side was Jane, the black book in her left hand and her right one stretched out. She has opened the door with an incantation. I thanked her and told her about the video tape.
"Say, is it possible that something possesses a gun and makes the person owning it do rash decisions?" I asked her out of context.
"Well, it's possible I think. Why though?"
"Never mind"
The sun was setting outside, the sky was like modern art grey with orange stains. The rain soothed and Aaron came back, Ava wasn't with them.
"Liam, we need to talk" they called him.
They would confront their friend with what they found out, a white folder and the letter from their dead husband were in their hands, they placed everything on the kitchen counter, waiting for the murderer they have trusted until today to come down to them.
An// that's it with the updates for today ^^
Did you enjoy it?
