"They're HUMANS- since when do I care for humans?"

Rem sighed, Ryuk was THAT dense was he?

"Since them!" She replied, pointing to you and L tangled up in blankets off in dream land.

Again Rem has come while you were sleeping to see if Ryuk had finally come to the obvious realisation that he was getting too close to you and L. And just as she thought, Ryuk was just as oblivious as last time.

"What don't you understand about the word fascination?" Ryuk sassed.

"No Ryuk. Fascination is what you have with Light. Attachment is what you have with the Lawliet couple. They're is no reason for you to be watching them as closely as you are and yet here you are waiting at their bed for them to wake up. L can't even see you and you're still watching him!" Rem replied.

Ryuk didn't want to believe he'd grown 'soft' for some pesky mortals. He's always said that love was for mortals and fools, and he didn't want to be a fool.

"I am not like you and Misa" Ryuk scoffed.

"That's because there's a difference between romantic, familial and platonic love. Do you have a dusty apple for a brain?"

This whole case Ryuk had laughed at the fact Rem was manipulated by a human because she loved a girl. Light had her in a tricky spot doing his bidding all because of the feelings the death god held for Misa. Maybe he was just in denial, but he didn't want to even consider the fact he might be attached to you and L.

"Ryuk you follow them everywhere and they don't even have a death note, you're paying no attention to Light who is in the building, you're always rambling on about the Lawliet couple being 'fascinating' and 'morbidly interesting' which to them would be a compliment. You're clearly attached to them, weather you're in love with them or see them as shinigami trapped in human bodies like family I don't know. But you're attached. If you don't back away now you'll end up in the exact same spot as me and Misa. The humans don't care for us, they're here to solve the case and are willing to throw us under the bus" Rem explained.

"We're gods! They can't control us. That's why I find it ridiculous you're letting Light control you" Ryuk replied.

Rem sighed, clearly he wasn't going to get it. She wasn't going to bother warming him anymore since he didn't want to cooperate. He could learn the hard way that if love is for mortals and fools then the both of them were big fools. If Ryuk found himself being bossed around by your or L, Rem wouldn't be sympathetic. She warned him.

"Whatever, clearly you lack brain cells..." Rem said.

"We're made of dust stuff we don't even have brains. We're literally spiritual beings" Ryuk replied.

She was done with this apple munching dumbass.

"Don't say I didn't warn you"

With those words, she phased through the wall and left to go back to the yotsuba Kira. Ryuk was left in your dark room as you and L slept, and as he looked down at the two of you entangled in each other's arms sleeping peacefully he couldn't help but wonder how you humans worked with your relationships. It seemed that sleeping in a hug was common among couples, was it to preserve warmth or was it to provide comfort? Was it something you did quickly into a relationship or had to wait to do?

Ryuk didn't understand human love, he was a shinigami after all. But Rem sure as hell thought he was in some kind of love with you and L.

He didn't want to admit it, but maybe she was right. Maybe he was getting attached to you. His lack of understanding about the concept of love meant he wasn't sure. And if he was he didn't know if it was romantic, platonic or familial. All he did know is you and L would die together buried in the same crypt, and your devotion to one another transcended into the underworld, soulmates. Bound together by the university almost. You'd never leave L, and he'd never leave you.

You were in love with each other, deeply. And that was one thing Rem was right about, you and L probably didn't care for Ryuk beyond a fascination at the fact shinigami exist.

You were too devoted to each other to consider him. So even if Ryuk was in love with you and L, what could he do? You were married to each other, you were humans.

After the child with the eyes was born that one time, relations with humans were forbidden. That's why Rem ended up in her position, she was in love with Misa, who didn't love her back. She couldn't do anything about it since it was forbidden, and now she's manipulated into killing you and L by light.

But... she hasn't. Not yet.

Ryuk wondered if she would, since she was so into the whole love thing he found it hard to believe she'd kill a married couple as devoted as you and L. Even if it would go against Light.

Staring aimlessly down at you and L as you slept, he pondered.

He didn't want you two to die. You were too entertaining.

Shifting in his sleep, L pressed his head into your chest and moved his arms to twist around you tighter. Your chin rested atop his head when he did so, fitting together like a puzzle piece. He seemed to peaceful, you seemed so peaceful.

The conversation with Rem only made him wonder, what was it like to be in love the way you and L were? That something a shinigami could never dream of coming close too. A bond like that is purely human. That's what made them all fascinating, they bonded. And some bonds were stronger than the worlds strongest super glue.

You and L were the perfect example of that.

"Ryuk stop staring at us"

He jumped, unaware you'd woken up slightly when L moved against you. You could feel the gaze of the death god on you seeping through your skin.

"I'll never understand what it's like to be you and L, but damn. It's so interesting to watch..." he replied.

"Huh?" You said, half asleep.

"Never mind... you humans and your romance..."

"Go do something else, I can't fall back asleep with you acting as my sleep paralysis demon" you sighed, pulling the blankets over your head and hiding L in your arms protectively.

Rolling his eyes, Ryuk phased through the wall and left you alone. He may as well go spy on Light for a while.

He didn't even realise that he'd just obeyed your command mere minutes after he told Rem he wouldn't do such a thing...
