Asleep after a long day of helping the taskforce unpack, L lay with one leg hooked over you and a death grip on your arm. Your arms draped over his shoulders and the blankets half hanging off the bed from tossing and turning in your sleep. It'd been a while since L slept, you were glad he was getting some. He's need it for everything coming up in the case.

Your first night in the new taskforce was a quiet one. Which was good for you, but unfortunately not good for Ryuk who was still awake and bored out of his mind. Actually... do shinigami even sleep?

He'd been wandering around the building moving this around and looking in rooms for a while, and boy was it getting boring. Bored seemed to be the only feeling he was capable of having unless there was some big Kira related drama happening. And with the whole taskforce asleep there wasn't much to watch.

He'd watched Misa for a bit after you and L went to bed. All she did was take off her makeup and go to bed herself. He checked up on Light after that, laughing at the sight of his previous book owner behind this whole mess asleep with his foot chained to the wall so he wouldn't sneak off while no one was awake to watch him.

He was completely and utterly bored. As usual, unsurprisingly.

"Hey- Hey (y/n)" he said, poking your face.

You didn't respond.

"(Y/n)!"

Swatting him away in your sleep and shifting closer to L Ryuk groaned in annoyance.

"Why do humans have to sleep? It's so boring having no one to talk to" he whined.

"Well aren't you in luck then?"

Surprised, Ryuk turned to find none other than the shinigami of the second Kira behind him.

"Rem? What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be with that creepy business guy who has the book?" He questioned.

"Everyone is asleep at this hour. No one will notice me gone. I'm here because I want to ask you about something" Rem replied.

Oh, now Ryuk had some entertainment.

"Oh? What exactly is this about?" He asked.

"Why exactly are you following these two while Light has no memory?"

"I told you. They're interesting, you'd be hanging around Misa if you weren't tied to that other guy"

"My relations with Misa are much different to that of yours with Light, L or (y/n)" Rem replied.

Ryuk always found Rem and Gelus rather foolish for their love of Misa. He did have to give Misa some credit for managing to make two whole shinigami fall for her, that wasn't something that happened often.

"Yeah because while I'm merely fascinated by them, you are in love with her. You saw what happened to Gelus. Love is nothing but a death with for us shinigami. It's for mortals and fools" Ryuk laughed.

Rem didn't appreciate that roast, but she stayed calm as fighting Ryuk was not something she wanted to deal with. Especially after he caused this whole mess with Light getting that damn book, the butterfly effect of that ending up making Rem stuck in Lights web in order to protect Misa.

Rem looked over at you and L sound asleep and unaware of her presence. She knew love was real, and it was powerful. You and L were proof of that, even the way you slept tangled up together showed it.

"I think you'll find messing with them your downfall Ryuk" Rem warned.

"How? They're just two detectives who know if my existence but can't do anything about it since no one would believe them. I know they look like ghosts or something but they're just humans" Ryuk laughed.

"That's just it. They're just humans, shinigami may be more powerful than most humans but all it takes is one human with the right charm to topple a shinigami"

"Are you suggesting I'll fall in love with them? Ha! That's almost as funny as when Light suggested I'd fall for HIM of all people. Talk about a god complex. I'm simply following them because I've never seen a single human quite like them. They're fascinating, most humans fear death because they don't know what happens next. But these two... they treat it like it's some beautiful end goal to reach after you've spent your life with your soulmate. They romanticise it almost. Have you ever seen a human do that? Have you ever seen a human who isn't scared of death? Of us?" Ryuk rambled.

Rem knew that if Ryuk kept following you around, it'd be his downfall one way or another. But clearly, there was no reasoning with him. He was too infatuated with the idea of a human treating the macabre like some kind of beautiful expensive artwork, and he'd found two of them.

"Don't say I didn't warn you. I've never seen humans like them either, I admit they are fascinating. But you're taking it too far, you'll end up stuck in a position like I am with Misa" Rem warned.

"As if I'll fall for them. Like I said love is for mortals and fools and I'm neither. Plus, even if I did fall for them it's not like I could do anything about it, they're so in love with each other they'd spit in my face and call me an incompetent paintbrush before they return those feelings. Those two will never leave each others sides, I think love is dumb but even I can tell that those two are two skeletons in a crypt" Ryuk explained.

Rem rolled her eyes at Ryuk, reasoning with him was useless. Well, she tried... but if you end L ended up being his downfall, and subsequently Lights downfall she wouldn't be surprised. In fact, she kind of hoped that did happen so she could be free from Lights web of bullshit and continue to stay with Misa. She knew Misa would never return her feelings as she was not only too hung up on light, but a human. There's only ever been one account if a human and shinigami having relations before a rule was added to the death notes banning such affairs because of a 'mutant baby' with the eyes being born.

Even if Misa would never return Rems feelings, and their relations were forbidden, she'd still protect and watch over her.

"I tried to warn you, when you find yourself backed into a corner don't come crying with your apples to me" Rem scoffed, phasing through the wall to check on Misa before leaving back to the current owner of her notebook.

Ryuk watched her leave, then turning to look back at you and L.

"Is if I'd fall for a couple of emo humans. Rem's crazy for even considering it..." Ryuk laughed to himself.

You and L lay there in bed pretzeld together in a hug, L's head on your chest listening to your heartbeat. Softly breathing in sync as you both met for adventures up in your dreams. Ryuk found himself watching, pondering on what Rem said thinking she was nuts. But as he said, even someone who thought love was stupid like him, could tell just how much you and L loved each other.

"They're interesting humans... that's all..."
