⊱ ────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ────── ⊰

𝐕𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄 𝐁𝐋𝐄𝐊 was known as a strong psychic to few but to others, a freak. Ever since she was young, she had been called things such as loner and weird girl. Even as far as being called a freak; an outcast. Mainly because she preferred to be alone. Well aware what people were capable of. Since then she's been distant to certain groups of people.

Even though she distanced herself, she found a job. Wasn't too great yet wasn't too bad either. The pay was good. She was somewhat financially stable. At least it paid the rent for the apartment complex she was living in. For food, it was a tight situation since the money she would get would automatically go straight towards the bills and whatever was leftover wasn't much either.

Case after case, she would take a moment for herself to ease her mind. To clear it and to cleanse the air around her. From those who knew her well enough it was easy for them to spot when she was under a lot of pressure. Not to mention the amount of stress that came with it off the bat. No one said it was easy. Yet no one clarified the details or the lengths of how tough it could be too. She had to find out for herself first hand.

There were a lot of things she had to deal with first hand and others that someone gave her a quick heads up for. This job wasn't that exception though. She went in blind. Just when job searching was really starting to feel like a sharp thorn at her side that was hard to remove unless it was yanked out, that's when she scrolled just a little further. Spotting the job application for the local police department. It was a specific part of the department that not only worked with local law enforcement but with the FBI if that part of the job was necessary. That part didn't surprise her much. It was what was written in bold red letters underneath that did.

<< PSYCHIC HELP REQUIRED >>

Without further ado, she quickly filled out the form and made sure to send a copy of her credentials to match it along with her phone number in case there were any questions. People tended to be skeptical when it came to others claiming they were a psychic just for it to usually turn out in the end that they were just lying through their teeth to get the money. That's not the main reason why she applied. It was a chance for her to be seen as nothing other than the person she really was— not a freak or an outcast others had deemed her.

It had been nearly a year since she had gained a form of a family. One that supported one another and helped each other in any shape or form. One that would invite others out to their BBQs or their house just for a drink. She didn't trusted many. That was always something hard for her to do since high school. However she did gain a friend. A private investigator by the name of Dominic Vain. He was actually the first to gain interest in her.

Dominic wasn't like the other officers. He was kind, gentle, understanding and if anything else— way more curious than the average person. His form of curiosity and the way she would talk about certain things entertained Valerie. The day it happened was the day he wasn't his usual self. When she would enter his workspace to see how he was doing, he appeared on edge. Not in the sense of being angry but more on the sense of being scared. As if he had stumbled upon something he most likely wasn't supposed to. When she would ask him what bothered him so much, he would just shut her out. That didn't stop her.

Why? You may ask. That was being due to the fact that at the same exact moment she had asked him if he was alright, a feeling came to her. A very strong wave. One that she could tell had influence over him. That same very day was a day she wouldn't forget either. It was the day that all hell had broke loose. The phones at the station would ring deeming emergency after emergency and no one could tell what in the hell was actually happening. It was as if a force was unleashed and those who had felt it got spooked. Either that or this was all some form of a prank.

It wasn't.....

But rather the start of a something bad about to happen and Valerie felt it throughout her whole body.

Something big was about to happen and if she didn't prevent it, she didn't know what that would mean for the people who lived in the city.

~ A/N: I've actually been having this book in the drafts for so long it was the debate on posting it due to the fear of it not getting much attention. If you have gotten this far,  thank you and I'll appreciate it if you comment a heart. Any color or form <3
