Chapter 2
Ivan's Point of View
I followed behind her till we reached a house. Boards covered the front on at the widows and as we walk on the side the windows were all boarded too. There were bricks sticking out at the back of the house. She started climbing up using the bricks as grips. She reached the roof and waited for me to climb up too. I started to climb up to but it was hard, I couldn't really hold my grip. I slipped and fell back down. My back hit the ground and I groaned. She laughed and jumped down.
"You need help?" she asked.
"Show off. This hurts." I got up and I brush the dirt off me.
"Alright, some bricks are sticking out more than the others so look at the bricks and start climbing. Also, remember which bricks are sticking out more," she explained.
I looked at the bricks more closely and saw a section of bricks sticking out more than the others. I started climbing that section and reached the roof. Once I reached the roof, I looked down to see Moon already half-way up. Once she reached the top, she brought out a set of keys. She unlocked the window that I didn't see. She opened the window and jumped in. I followed and closed the window. I saw two beds, boxes that were labeled ammo, guns, first aid, and clothes. She turned on two lamps and the room was lit up.
"You can have the other bed," I sat down on the bed.
"So how did you find a house that wasn't destroyed?"
"A few days after I entered the game, a middle-aged lady found me and taught me how this game works. We were together for about two years, then one night we were out and got ambushed. She ended up dying. When we weren't searching for anything, we were here." she answered back and turned so her back was facing me.
"Don't worry. I won't take anything or kill you while you sleep." She didn't respond so I laid down and turned so that my back was facing her and fell asleep. Throughout the night I heard stuff being moved around.
I was having a good sleep till I felt ice-cold water dropped onto me.
"What the fuck!" I shouted, wiping my eyes.
"Why the hell did you do that?" I said and sat up.
"You wouldn't wake up, so I had to use other methods. Here, eat this," She said and tossed me some bread. I started eating while she walked over to a box labeled 'clothes'. She dug through the box until she had some clothes. She tosses the clothes at me.
"Here. When you're done go take a shower," After I finished eating the bread, I got up and looked around. She pointed at the door at was on the opposite side of me. I walked inside, undress, and got in the shower. After I was done I dried myself and started getting dressed. The boxers and pants fit on size but the shirt didn't fit. I walked out and she sat on her bed with her bag emptied out.
"The shirt you gave me didn't fit," I said and tossed her the shirt. She caught it and checked the size.
"This is the biggest shirt I have," She said. She grabbed a set of clothes and went into the bathroom. I sat on the bed for a few minutes but I was bored. I got up looked around. There are three doors, one leading to the bathroom, the other was a closet of which had guns, and the last door leads downstairs. I walked downstairs and there was a wall that looked like it used to separate the kitchen from the living room. It had bullet holes.
"I used to use that wall for practice," Moon said out of nowhere.
"Shit. don't scare me like that!" I exclaimed as I put a hand to my chest.
"You can keep exploring the house if you want. I don't really care." She said and walked back upstairs to the bedroom. I looked around what used to be the living room, lights that were in the ceiling look like they burned out, the couch would still be in good condition if dust didn't cover it, there were two stands at the ends of the couch with lamps on top of them. The coffee table had a cover over it so I removed it and it was made of glass.
I walked into the kitchen, everything was covered in dust, the refrigerator was gone, and the table looked like if you put too much weight on it it'll collapse. I walked back upstairs and saw Moon going through the closet. Once she found what she was looking for, she headed back downstairs.
"Hey, what are you doing?" I asked and I didn't get a response back. She went to the farthest door from the staircase, unlocked it, and entered. I followed behind her into the room, in the room, there was a wall in the middle with bullet holes in a line. She brought up what looked like a Hi-Power gun and pulled the trigger five times.
"What the hell are you doing?" I yelled. She ignored me and shot five more times. I think she's going out of her mind.
I took the gun out of her hand and held it out of her reach. She gave me a death glare, brought out her Beretta 92 and shot the wall 2 more times.
"Have you lost your mind! Why the hell would you shoot a wall and worse, you shoot it with ammo that's hard to find!" I exclaimed.
"Get out!" She said. I walked out with following me, she closed the door behind her. I went upstairs and sat on my bed, she sat in hers.
"Why in God's name would you shoot a wall 12 times! 12 TIMES!" I asked angrily.
"I never use that gun so it's collecting dust and when I kill someone I shoot that wall to show, um, well, respect,"
"Here." I tossed me my gun and it landed in her lap. She grabbed it and put it on the box next to her bed. I laid on my back, looking up at the ceiling. We just sat there doing nothing. I heard her get up and move around.
"Here. Your shirt is still wet," I heard her say. She tossing me my pants and boxers. I caught them and put them on my bed. I sat up and looked at her.
"Can I ask you a question? You have to be completely honest with me, though," I said.
"1) Depends on the question and 2) you already asked a question," She said, walked back to her bed, and sat down.
"Do you ever regret killing the people that you killed?" She stayed silent, lost in thought.
"I didn't really think about until now. I guess I do regret it, but since I haven't felt any feelings in a while, I don't really know what regret feels like,"
"Let's play 20 questions since I am bored and we have time to kill," I suggested.
"What's 20 questions?" She asked.
"20 questions is a game where I ask you a question and you answer then you ask me a question and I answer," I explained.
"Ok, you go first," She said
"Alright then um, what is your favorite color?"
"Black and white. What is yours?"
"Red. How old are you?"
"20 years old. How about you?"
"25 years. Do you have any siblings?"
"If I remember correctly, I have two brothers and one sister. How many do you have?"
"I have an older brother and a younger sister. When is your birthday?"
"July 20. Yours?"
"Mine is December 20. What's your real name?" I asked. She looked away with a sad expression.
"You don't have to tell me-"
"My name is Faith, but I go by Moon," she says interrupting me.
"Before you were in the game, what were you doing for a living?" She asked curiously.
"I was an architect. I did different projects." He nodded slowly."What about you?" I asked.
"I don't really remember. Some memories came back, but some things are still blurry. I was the youngest. I had an older brother and an older brother and sister that are twins," She said smiling at herself.
"Why don't you remember anything? I remember everything that happened to me before I was in this game," I asked. You could easily see her expression darkened.
"My father wasn't the best. Since my mother worked full time and my father worked part-time, my father would watch us more than my mother. Since my mother worked the night shift, she would sleep during the day. My father was," she paused, "abusive. He would hurt me more than my siblings. My oldest brother, who was eighteen at the time I believe, decided that once he graduated he was going to take custody of me and my siblings." She looked down at her lap. "That's the last thing I remember before I was taken. I never got to see that day come."
"I'm so sorry for what you have gone through, and I know it must have been hard for you but once this game is over, you'll get to see your family again. At least you know now what you should live for. Like I learned to live for my family since I know they're waiting for me." he said.
"Thanks. I really need that." She said, yawning shortly after.
"Well, I think it's time to fall asleep. It's dark already," I push the clothes to the foot of the bed, laid on the bed the right way. I heard her got up from the bed and shut off the lights.
"Goodnight, Faith," I said.
"Goodnight Ivan," I heard her say before I fell asleep.
