Junko: It can be a little sad being a direct copy of someone else. Eventually, you'll find yourself as just a girl in the shadow of your original male counterpart. But in most cases, you could momentarily outshine them like these two have.

Monika: Xion, the imperfect replica of Sora.

Junko: And Kotone, the female version of Makoto Yuki!

Monika: The stage is set and the combatants are ready.

Junko: It's time for a genderswap Death Battle!

In the middle of the night, Kotone Shiomi was on the roof of her school building. She watched the full moon as the clock struck midnight and the Dark Hour had begun. She then heard a voice in her head.

Fuuka: (Kotone, are you sure it's okay for you to be out like this? What if a Shadow spots you?)

Kotone: I'll be fine. I'm just getting a little practice in before next week.

Fuuka: (If you say so... hm? Senpai! Watch out!)

As soon as Kotone turned around, she saw Xion coming down at her with a downward slash. Kotone jumped back and dodged it before taking out her Naginata and looking up at Xion.

Kotone: Who are you?

Xion looked back up at her. While her face was hidden behind a hood, her voice trembled with sadness and regret.

Xion: I apologize, but the Organization needs the Wild Card.

Kotone: You know about the Wild Card? Sorry, but I'm not giving it up so easily. So if you want to fight, then bring it on!

Xion dashed at her and swung her Keyblade but Kotone blocked it, pushing the blade to the side and swinging her naginata. Xion ducked under the attack and went for an upper swing that Kotone quickly jumped back to dodge.

Fuuka: (Is that a key? I'm detecting great power coming from it. Be careful.)

Kotone nodded as Xion dashed at her again, swinging her keyblade. Kotone moved to the left and dodged the attack before swinging her naginata. Xion blocked it, but Kotone went for another swing, forcing Xion to lean back to dodge. Kotone was about to go for another swing but this time Xion thrust her Keyblade and Kotone was forced to block it. She shoved it to the side and swung her naginata again, but Xion reacted quickly.

Xion: Aeroga!

She unleashed a burst of wind around her that knocked Kotone back.

Fuuka: (Oh no! Are you okay?)

Kotone: Yeah!

Xion held up her Keyblade.

Xion: Firaga!

She shot a massive fireball at her and Kotone quickly blocked it. Xion then threw her Keyblade like a boomerang and Kotone swatted it away. As soon as it flew back into Xion's hands, Xion jumped into the air and went for a downward strike. Kotone dodged it and swung her naginata. While Xion managed to block it, she was still knocked back as Kotone took out her evoker and aimed it at her head.

Kotone: Persona!

She summoned Orpheus, who unleashed a fireball at her. Xion saw this coming and dodged before dashing at them. She swung her Keyblade as Orpheus swung her harp. The two clashed and caused a shockwave around them, allowing for Kotone to swoop in and thrust her naginata. Xion blocked it and knocked her back only for Orpheus to swing her harp with a swift strike. She struck at Xion's chest hard enough for sparks of electricity to flash around them as Xion flew off the building. Xion caught herself and started to fly as Kotone pulled the trigger again.

Kotone: Cybele!

She summoned another Persona that flew after Xion. The two clashed in the air before Cybele kicked Xion back onto the school. As Cybele used Myriad Arrows to strike at Xion from every direction, Xion landed on her feet and made a barrier to block them all. 

Kotone: Megidola!

Balls of energy then appeared around Cybele and unleashed Almighty blasts that broke through Xion's barrier. She was forced to run and dodged them all while covering herself with light. As she ran, Kotone dashed at her and swung her naginata. Xion swung her keyblade and they both clashed. Kotone spun and went for another swing but Xion turned into a small ball of light, bounced over Kotone, turned back to normal, and went to swing at her from behind. Kotone quickly turned around and blocked it as she was knocked back. She put the evoker to her head again.

Kotone: Surt!

She summoned Surt, who unleashed several pillars of fire from under Xion's feet. Xion quickly dodged them all as she dashed at Surt and swung her Keyblade. Surt blocked it with his flaming sword and knocked her back before unleashing a dark shockwave straight towards her. Xion quickly jumped over it and held up her Keyblade.

Xion: Blizzaga!

She summoned a blue ball that blew up with ice magic and knocked Surt back.

Kotone: Gah!

Kotone held her head and fell to one knee.

Fuuka: (Oh no!)

Xion saw this and quickly took advantage, holding her Keyblade in the air again.

Xion: Thundaga!

She unleashed a burst of lightning from the sky that struck down Kotone. 

Kotone: GAAAAH!!!

Xion: Take this!

She then unleashed lasers that moved straight at Kotone. Kotone quickly dodged them and summoned someone else.

Kotone: Lucifer!

She summoned Lucifer who unleashed a giant fist that flew straight toward Xion. Xion went to block it but it blew up in her face. Lucifer then fully healed Kotone.

Fuuka: (Are you okay? She's using some form of light magic to block your attacks so be careful.)

Kotone: Right! Morning Star!

Lucifer then fired a star down from the sky and it blew up in Xion's face, destroying a huge chunk of the school. Xion flew out of the debris of the explosion and swung her keyblade. Kotone blocked her strike and kicked her away.

Kotone: Alilat!

She summoned a floating idol and Xion quickly dashed at her. They swung their weapons and clashed. Xion managed to get in a few blows but all her strikes were getting reflected back at her.

Xion: Geh!

Alilat then summoned a massive ice tree that blew up and froze Xion solid. 

Kotone: Scathach!

She summoned Scathach, who unleashed a huge burst of wind that unfroze Xion but knocked her back as well. She rolled back to her feet as Kotone dashed at her. She jumps up and swings her naginata but Xion creates a black portal that surrounds Kotone in darkness. Once she opened her eyes, she looked around as she was in Wonderland, in a house where everything was huge.

Kotone: Fuuka? Fuuka are you there? I lost connection... where am I?

She looked at the massive table and saw Xion on top of it. A device activated behind her as she went into her first transformation with wings and a massive sword. Kotone grew serious and aimed her gun at her head again.

Kotone: Metatron!

As Xion flew down at her, Kotone summoned Metatron, who unleashed a massive explosion from underneath Xion, destroying the entire table as she flew at Kotone. She swung her sword and Kotone swung her naginata. The two girls clashed as Xion pushed Kotone back, slamming her into a wall. Kotone kicked Xion away as Metatron went to grab Xion. She ducked under his arm and swung her blade at his chest but the strike barely did any damage as he punched her to the ground hard enough to form a crater. Kotone then jumped over Metatron and went to stab her, but Xion quickly recovered and jumped back. 

Xion then flew at Kotone at high speeds and went to strike her at high speeds. Kotone went to block them all as Metatron fired a golden fist at her, launching Xion into a wall as the fist blew up in her face. Xion leaned on the wall breathing a bit heavily before opening another portal, once again engulfing Kotone in darkness. Kotone looked up and saw that she was now on a rocky platform in Halloween Town. Another device activated as Xion went into her second transformation with a different sword.

Kotone: Stop this already! I can tell in your heart that you don't want to fight!

Xion: Yes, but I have no choice.

Kotone: We all have a choice...

Kotone aimed her gun at herself again and pulled the trigger.

Kotone: Siegfried!

She summoned Siegfried as Xion dashed at her, swinging her sword. Siegfried got between them and blocked her attack with his own sword before pushing her back. The two swung again and clashed, forming a shockwave around them as Siegfried pushed her back again. Kotone then ran past him and swung her naginata at her. Xion swung her sword and they clashed as Xion spun and went for another swing. Kotone blocked it as Siegfried swung his sword and Xion quickly jumped back.

Xion: I won't give up yet! 

She fired rays of light that struck straight through Seigfried despite his light immunity. Kotone goes to dodge the rest as explosions erupt around her. 

Kotone: Melchizedek!

She summoned Melchizedek who flew at Xion with a gigantic fist. Xion went to block it and was sent flying back. She was sliding on her feet as Melchizedek went for a powerful punch that Xion clashed with. The impact knocked the Persona's fist back as Kotone dashed at Xion and thrust her naginata. Xion dodged and swung at her but Kotone ducked under her strike as Melchizedek went for a powerful punch. Xion quickly blocked it with a barrier that knocked the Persona back. She then unleashed another portal that engulfed Kotone in darkness. This time she looked up and was in Agrabah. A third device activated as Xion was in her third form, now with four arms and four blades.

Kotone: Susano'o!

She summoned Susanoo who immediately went for a powerful, upper slash. Xion dodged and swung two of her blades as Susanoo clashed with them. She went for another thrust with the other two blades that merely knocked the Persona back as Kotone dashed at her and swung her naginata, striking at Xion twice. Xion infused her swords with light and used light to pull Kotone close as she swung her swords. Kotone was quick to block and was knocked back just as quickly. Susanoo then swung his sword again and Xion clashed with it. She slashed at his body but he had up a barrier that reflected the damage onto herself. 

Xion: Geh! Again?!

Susanoo goes for a downward swing and Xion blocks his strike. Kotone quickly tried to stab her from behind but she quickly pushed Susanoo back and swung at Kotone. She dodged as Xion went for another strike that sent Kotone flying. Kotone slid on her feet as Susanoo dashed at Xion and swung his sword again. Xion blocked it and swung two of her swords, cutting him in half. She then turned towards Kotone once more.

Xion: Is that the best you can do?

Kotone: No... this is! Come to me, Thanatos!

A burst of power erupted around her as she summoned Thanatos who immediately flew after Xion. Xion swung two of her swords and he blocked them with his shields. He then swung his swords and Xion blocked those with two blades before thrusting the others. Thanatos quickly got back and fired powerful blasts of energy. Xion made a barrier to block them but the almighty blasts broke through it easily. Kotone then saw this opportunity to dash at Xion and stab her naginata straight through her chest. As soon as she did, Xion opened another portal that engulfed her in darkness. Kotone looked up as she was back on the roof of the school.

Kotone: I'm back?

Fuuka: (Senpai! You're okay! Thank goodness... Wait... What's that behind you?!)

She turned around to see Xion in her final form, turning massive with two swords.

Xion: It's over!

She swung her sword and Thanatos quickly blocked it and pushed her back. She summoned blades of light that fell on and stabbed through Thanatos.

Kotone: Gah!

Fuuka: (Senpai, you're hurt!)

A gravity bubble then appeared above Kotone that held her down. 

Kotone: ... I'm not... done... yet... ... ... Messiah!

She put her evoker to her head, pulled the trigger, and summoned her ultimate Persona. Xion swung her swords at him but Messiah created a barrier that absorbed her physical attacks.

Xion: What?!

Messiah then healed Kotone who stood back on her feet without worrying about the effects of the gravity bubble. He then summoned a giant fist that Xion blocked as it blew up in her face. 

Kotone: Morning Star!

Messiah then summoned another star to fall from the sky and crash into Xion, creating a massive explosion. Xoin quickly recovered and fired multiple beams of light. Messiah started flying around to dodge them before shooting fireballs at her but they were of no effect. She infused her swords with light and swung them. Messiah went to block but was sent flying as Xion turned her attention back to Kotone. She swung her sword as Kotone summoned another Persona.

Kotone: Satan!

She summoned the Lord of Darkness who repelled the damage back onto Xion. He then summoned a giant pillar of hire from underneath Xion, burning her up.

Kotone: Black Viper!

Satan summoned a giant snake from the ground that wrapped around Xion and bit her on the neck, holding her still.

Kotone: Now to finish this...

Kotone summoned Lucifer who stood by Satan's side. She aimed the gun at her head and pulled the trigger.

Kotone: Armageddon!

With the two Persona's powers combined, Kotone unleashed a gigantic blast of energy from underneath Xion, completely engulfing her in light. 

Xion: GAAAAHHH!!!

Once the light dispersed, Xion's final form was nowhere to be seen. Kotone looked up to see Xion falling from above. Once she did, Kotone quickly caught her and laid her on the ground. Xion looked up at Kotone with her body feeling weak.

Xion: ... I'm... sorry...

Kotone: Stand proud... you were strong...

Xion smiled and faded away as the Dark Hour ended. She turned to light and faded away, just in time for the rest of SEES to come.

Mitsuru: We came as soon as Fuuka told us the situation.

Aigis: Are you okay? What happened?

Kotone looked at them with a smile on her face and tears in her eyes.

Kotone: Yeah... I'm just fine...

She then slowly passed out from exhaustion

Junko: Monika! You said this would be a quick battle! What happened?!

Monika: Well, as it turns out, this match was a lot closer than we originally expected. They have the same amount of experience and have shown similar amounts of speed, strength, and durability. They even had counters towards each other's abilities. Xion's cloak made her immune to any ability Kotone had that could cause instant death. And Kotone could always switch Persona to make her more resistant to most of Xion's elemental attacks.

Junko: Yeah, while Kotone has multiple Persona with different strengths and weaknesses, the fact Kotone can switch between those Persona makes her all the more unpredictable. And it's not like she's limited to the ones we listed in Kotone's analysis either. In total, Kotone has at least 176 Persona that she can choose from. Some of which can be summoned at the same time. We only listed the strongest of them.

Monika: And that's not even including the Great Seal, a move Xion has no answer to. In the end, these two were near equals in power, but Kotone's strategic mind and unpredictable moveset gave her just the edge for a victory.

Junko: Personally, I knew in my heart that Kotone ruled this kingdom!

-Connections: Gender-swapped duplicates of their games' main characters (Kotone being a female version of Makoto in an alternate timeline while Xion is one of Sora's Nobodies) who battle against eldritch monsters born from a person's dark corruption (Shadows and Heartless respectively), using a special weapon specifically tailored for fending them off (a Persona and a Keyblade respectively). Both, as it turned out, were vessels for a being that would bring a calamity with them should they return (Nyx and Xehanort respectively) and in the climax of the games they were introduced in, they would sacrifice themselves to save their friends at the cost of their friends' memories (memories of Xion dying with her due to her being physically made of memories and Kotone's party members forgetting about their time as SEES (and while the latter was only temporary, Kotone had a similar problem in Persona Q2 where being from an alternate timeline, she knew all of her party members like the back of her hand but they had no idea who she was)), though both would be brought back one way or another.
