Junko: Oftentimes, the greatest stories told throughout fiction rely on the strength of their villains. The best ones are those that pose the gravest threats to heroes, whether it involves preying on their fears, ruining their lives, challenging the way they think and believe, and, probably the most likely option, threatening to either destroy the universe for kicks or bring all of creation under their control, much like these two galactic overlords

Monika: Frieza, the cruel emperor of the universe of Dragon Ball.

Junko: And Thanos, the Mad Titan of Marvel.

Monika: The stage is set and the combatants are ready.

Junko: It's time for a Death Battle!

On planet Namek, Thanos flew down on his throne snapping the neck of a Namekian who held the last Dragon Ball. Tossing his body to the side he took the dragon ball for himself.

Thanos: Finally, the last one is mine.

As he smiled, a Ki blast suddenly knocked it out of his hands, sending it flying into the ocean. He grunts and looks up at the person who did that, watching Lord Frieza coming down on his Hover Pod.

Frieza: Well if it isn't the mighty Thanos himself. I am Lord Frieza, but I'm sure even your empty head would have figured that out. Now then, the Dragon Balls belong to me, so remove yourself from my planet or die to your new master.

Thanos: Fool, you're nothing more than another ant beneath my feet.

Thanos sat up as his chair teleported away behind him.

Frieza: Ah I see, the hard way it is then.

He fired a ki blast at him, but it was immediately blocked by Thanos' barrier. Thanos then fired an energy blast of his own, immediately destroying the Hovering Pod.

Thanos: Pathetic.

From the debris, Frieza emerged in his true form.

Frieza: And I just got that thing cleaned. 

Thanos fired another energy blast, but Frieza dodged it and flew at him, going for a kick to the face. Thanos blocked it with one arm before using the other to punch him into the ground hard enough to make a crater.

Thanos: Death's sweet kiss awaits us all. But I shall make certain that you taste it first.

He goes to stomp on him, but Frieza quickly jumps back, now more ticked off than before. Thanos was about to approach but found himself unable to move.

Thanos: What?

Frieza: What a waste of my time. Now die!

He pushed him back into a mountain and had it crumble on top of him. Thanos quickly picked himself up as Frieza flew at him. Thanos went for a punch, but Frieza appeared on his side and swung his tail, swatting him in the face. Thanos growls and goes to hit him with a backhand as Frieza strikes with a kick. The two titans clash, creating a shockwave around them that destroys everything in its path. Before Thanos could go for another strike, Frieza jumped back and sent multiple giant chunks of rubble crashing into him. Thanos blocked them with his shield and then teleported Frieza right in front of him. 

Frieza: What?!

Before Frieza could get back, Thanos grabbed him by the neck and slammed him to the ground.

Thanos: I am finished dealing with your presence!

He fired lasers from his eyes but Frieza fired eye lasers of his own, blasting through them and zapping Thanos' face.

Thanos: Gah!

He was forced back to let go as Frieza stood up and lifted two fingers in the air, causing the area around them to start blowing up. He then flew into the air with a smile on his face.

Frieza: I'll give you an A for effort at the very least, but as you will soon know, I haven't even used my full power!

Frieza's body grew more muscular as he pointed up and charged a Death Ball above him. Thanos recovered from the carnage below and looked up to see what Frieza was doing. 

Frieza: Die!

He threw the ball down on him and Thanos unleashed a massive beam of energy to instantly destroy it. As he did, Frieza surrounded his body with Ki and rammed himself straight into Thanos' chest, knocking him back. Thanos slid on his feet and as he did he enhanced his fists with energy. The two fighters then clashed fist creating another shockwave that knocked them both back. Thanos then grabbed him by the tail before slamming him into the ground and throwing him. Frieza caught himself but was immediately caught in an energy barrier.

Frieza: Tch!

Thanos: Your arrogance is noble but futile... just, but useless. It is the way of man, the only way we know how to play the game. But the contest is over and she comes for you. Are you ready for her? She is the bridge to eternity. Her caress is peace. Do not fear her, for Death is merely that which awaits us all!

As he said this, he flew into the air and used his gauntlet to send a massive meteor crashing down onto Frieza. An enormous explosion erupted upon impact as Frieza broke out of the energy barrier, transforming himself into Golden Frieza. He flew at Thanos and went for a massive punch. Thanos blocked it with his arms as Frieza was knocking him back.

Frieza: You will die by my hands!

The Mad Titan knocked his fist back and punched him into the ground. Frieza landed on his feet and looked up.

Thanos: I'd like to see you try!

He fired an energy beam and Frieza quickly dodged it before flying above Thanos and throwing two Death Saucers. Thanos blocked them with his shield as they pushed his feet into the ground. Frieza then floated behind him and shot a ki blast at his back.

Thanos: Geh!

Frieza: What's wrong? What happened to all that ego? Did your confidence just run away?

He fired three more as Thanos' shield was cracking from the Death Saucer.

Thanos: Gah!

Frieza: You're nothing but an overgrown monkey! Destined to cower at my feet, or better yet, die at the hands of your master!

Frieza fired a bigger one, creating a massive explosion that engulfed Thanos. He smiled but then his eyes widened as the debris cleared and Thanos stood there with nothing but a scratch on his cheek. He rubbed it off with a smile of his own.

Thanos: All that effort... for just a drop of blood.

Frieza: Tch! You dare mock me?!

He went to fire another blast, but Thanos grabbed his hand and kneed him in the gut before striking at his back and slamming him hard into the ground. Frieza tried to get up as he was now on his hands and knees.

Thanos: These games bore me, but this should bring a smile to my face.

He lifted his hand and snapped his finger, but was surprised to see Frieza wasn't erased from existence. He tried again and again but it wasn't working.

Thanos: What is the meaning of this?

Frieza: Hmhmhmhm... what's the matter? Your little toy isn't working? Sorry, but those tricks won't work on me.

Thanos was about to strike at him again, but Frieza fired a beam that Thanos was forced to dodge.

Frieza: And besides, this isn't even my final form!

He powered up even more, turning into Black Frieza and placing his palms on the ground, blowing the entire planet up in mere moments. From the debris, Frieza landed on a giant chunk of rubble with a smile on his face. He looked to see Thanos on one knee. As soon as he stood up, Frieza fired a Death beam straight through his chest, bringing him back to his knees.

Frieza: I see you're still alive. No matter. I've wasted enough time playing around.

Thanos: Geh... you... You...

Frieza: Hm? What was that? Going to beg for your life? Better speak up before I kill you. 

Thanos: You... 

He suddenly grabbed Frieza by the neck. 

Thanos: ... You should have gone for the head.

Frieza kicked him off and flew into the air, swinging a Ki blade that cut the giant platform in half. Thanos dodged it before jumping off and punching Frieza down. Frieza caught himself quickly.

Frieza: Tch. You fool! 

He fired a Death Blast but Thanos was unphased, firing a blast of his own that was much greater than Frieza's. It engulfed Frieza and reduced him to ash.

Thanos: I am the omnipotent God, Thanos. What should I do with such almighty power? The answer to that is really quite simple...

His throne reappeared behind him and he sat in it with a smile.

Thanos: ... Anything I want.

Junko: Damn. Well, that was something else.

Monika: This fight was pretty clear-cut. Frieza was incredibly powerful but Thanos had this fight in the bag.

Junko: So let's take a step back. It's true Frieza has resistance to existence erasure and all that. Theoretically speaking Thanos' snap alone should be enough to bypass it considering how powerful the gauntlet is, but we'll give him the benefit of the doubt. 

Monika: The issue is, Thanos still has more than enough power to get the job done. 

Junko: We're talking about someone who boxed with Gods even without the infinity stones. On top of that, he doesn't need the stones to change matter at the atomic level. Hell, he could even dig into Frieza's mind if he really wanted to. It didn't help that Thanos' curse and healing factor gave Frieza no real options of actually putting the big guy down.

Monika: Right. Frieza's powers were immense and he is certainly one of the most evil characters we've ever covered, but Thanos was equally as evil and more powerful than ever before.

Junko: Well looks like Frieza's feeling a little cold after that snap. He should lie down because I don't think he feels so good.

Monika: The winner is Thanos.

Their appearances are commonly associated with purple and gold, with the latter proving as an augmentation of their fighting prowess. They are also accomplices towards the incarnation of death and destruction, with this relationship contrasting from one another, yet end up in a similar disdain and break off from this individual. Both of their iconic stories have them searching for mythical gems that are capable of granting them whatever they desire, be it power or being virtually undefeatable.
