Monika: Long ago, an army of malevolent demons nearly destroyed humanity as it stood. But in their greatest time of need, one lone mage rose up against them, pushing back against the demons and saving all of humanity. This mage came to be known as the Wizard King, and as he passed, new Wizard Kings would rise to take his place, serving as the ultimate protectors of humanity and symbols of peace across the land.

Junko: And just like a certain Straw Hat rubber boy, the Wizard King was something that the young orphan boy named Asta always wanted to be.

Monika: One problem though. You see, this is a world of magic. 99% of the time everyone has magic and can use it properly. And it's extremely rare to find that 1% of people who can't use magic... but unfortunately, unlike his brother and rival Yuno, Asta is that 1% who doesn't have any magic in him at all. And because of that, he never got a Grimrore, unlike his brother who achieved the 4 Leaf Clover Grimrore.

Junko: But luck will turn around when Asta receives one after all! It was a 5 Leaf Clover one! And with it, he trained hard and ended up joining the Black Bulls!

Monika: Right, Asta has proven to be incredibly strong.

Monika: Asta is strong enough to fight and match Patri in battle, and Patri could cover the entire Clover Kingdom in a massive light spell. His power is comparable to Yuno's, whose clash with Rill destroyed an entire mountaintop. Asta can also be compared to Yami, who destroyed a seemingly endless dream dimension with a sword.

Junko: He destroyed a small moon larger than the entire Spade palace. He's even destroyed Lucifero's massive incarnation made of the Spade palace and hundreds of devils! Lucifero, himself, is powerful enough to end all of humanity!  He's taken hits from tons of heavy hitters, survived getting impaled on multiple occasions, and can move so fast that veterans mistake him for using amplification magic! Nope, that's just pure skill baby! Once you can dodge lasers in your sleep, you know you're doing something right!

Monika: Right, by this point there's no denying Asta's skill.

Monika: While he isn't a super combat analyst by any means, Asta has shown a high level of combat intelligence. He's picked up many fighting styles from people he's fought with and against and has consistently used each fight to surpass his limits and better himself for the next challenge. This becomes extremely apparent during his fight with Liebe, where he shows off some combat techniques he picked up from Kiato, Fanzell Kruger, and Yami Sukehiro while having learned enough from fighting Patry and Mars to be able to avoid multiple manners of attacks.

Junko: Still, don't you think he's cheating with anti-magic?

Monika: Not necessarily. Anti-Magic is just his unique ability to nullify any and all magic through his Grimoire. Since he lacks magic himself, he can safely utilize the swords provided by this ability without having to worry about it draining his own magic. Other mages would otherwise lose magic incredibly fast, which if exposed for long enough, could hinder their stamina completely. Anti-Magic works similarly to a magical aura, helping him deal better with the temperatures of the interior of a volcano.

Junko: Yeah, Asta can negate magic to a significant extent. He can cut through magic spells and attacks, negate the effects produced by them, and lacking mana also means he can hang around with people who passively absorb mana. Later on, he could channel Anti-Magic through his own body to also nullify magic. A lot of this is from his Anti-Magic swords.

Monika: Right, Asta can summon swords infused with Anti Magic from his grimoire. He uses these swords for various offenses that can nullify magic. The swords can cut through magic but are reduced to blunt weapons when used to strike anything else.

Junko was digging in a grimoire and pulled out the first sword.

Junko: He has four, starting with his Demon Slayer Sword!

Monika: A massive greatsword with the ability to neutralize magic. After a while, Asta gained the ability to control the Anti-Magic within the sword, allowing him to call it to him, as well as ride on top of it and take flight.

Junko: Hey Monika, watch this!

Junko flew around the house as Monika casually dodged her attempts to crash into her. She then grabbed the handle of the blade, causing Junko to fall.

Monika: Junko, watch where you're riding this thing!

Junko: Yeah, whatever. 

Monika: Anyway, Asta is also capable of increasing the sword's size at will by enhancing it with Anti-Magic. By tapping people with the hilt of the blade, he can undo mental enchantments. This sword can notably only cut magic though, as otherwise it is a blunt weapon... that can repel magic too.

Junko: Something else worth noting for his swords, in general, is that they can't be replicated to their fullest potential, as proven by the fact a mage whose ability is to replicate magic was unable to fully neutralize magic attacks.

Monika: His second sword is the Demon-Dweller Sword.

Monika: He got this sword from a treasury within a dungeon. This sword grants Asta Anti-Magic projectiles, allowing him to cut through magic from a distance. The sword also can absorb others' magic, and release attacks with the properties of that magic attribute. It's the lightest of his swords, meaning he can swing it faster than the other ones.

Junko: Then there's his Demon Destroyer sword!

Monika: This sword has the ability called Causality Break, which summons black tendrils of Anti-Magic that absorb and completely remove the effects of curses and magic, by severing the cause-and-effect relationship between them. This can even undo the biological changes caused by magic and the effects of reincarnation magic, which regular Anti-Magic can't do. The blade also allowed Asta to view Patri's memories when reaching into his "soul" to remove corruption from his body.

Junko: His fourth and most recent one is my favorite. The Demon-Slasher Katana!

Junko: Given to him by Yami himself, This sword not only has strong cutting power, but it also has selective cutting. This allows Asta to cut whatever he wishes without cutting anything he doesn't want to. Asta coated this sword in Anti-Magic to improve its power and nullify magic.

Monika: It's thanks to these swords that Asta has gained some unique abilities. Like the Bull Thrust.

Monika: When Asta points his Demon Slayer sword and Demon Dweller in front of him, he can dispel anything that comes in contact with his blade. Only issue is, without help from an ally such as a spatial magic user, Asta can't change directions while doing so.

Junko: Then there's the Black Meteorite!

Junko: Where Asta coats his entire body in Anti-Magic and charges at his opponent, slashing them once they're in range!

Monika: After that is the Black Hurricane.

Monika: Asta spins around rapidly, engulfing anything in his surroundings with Anti-Magic that cancels out any magical property.

Junko: He has the Black Slash.

Junko: Asta fills the Demon-Dweller Sword with Anti-Magic and swings it, releasing the Anti-Magic as slash wave projectiles!

Monika: While this attack only cuts magic, the impact with these slashes will damage those hit by it.

Junko: And when Asta pushes and condenses Anti-Magic into his Demon Slayer Sword, he can unleash Black Divider!

Junko: This devastating attack allows the blade to grow way beyond its normal size. At its absolute largest, it was shown to deflect gigantic balls of fire and ice, and Asta can swing it around as if it were normal in size.

Monika: He did learn other techniques that don't require Anti-Magic. Since he has no magic, he isn't able to sense magic power. Instead, he improvises using Ki, a natural energy within all living things.

Monika: By sensing Ki, Asta's able to predict and sense a foe's upcoming moves, including natural things like trees and rocks. It can also act like a lie detector, to sense intent and emotion, and be used to sense foes even if they are invisible.

Junko: And he's unlocked an advanced application to Ki known as Zetten!

Junko: Generally, the user would concentrate their magic and release it in a vertical slash. Asta applies Zetten however by using Anti-Magic, which can decay constructs grown with magic power, like bamboo in the Land in the Sun.

Monika: Yeah, all this Anti-Magic thanks to Liebe.

Junko: Who?

Monika: Oh, just his adopted demon brother living inside his Grimore.

Monika: Liebe, which means "love" in German, is was sealed inside the Grimoire to protect him when Lucifero attacked his adopted mom, Asta's actual mom. Asta's usage of Anti-Magic originates from Liebe, as he achieved it during his time in the Grimoire in order to get revenge against devil-kind.

Junko: And because he's Asta's adopted brother, that's why the Grimoire came to Asta as soon as the time was right.

Monika: It's too bad Liebe tried to kill him as soon as they met outside the floating book.

Junko: Oh please, that's just love between siblings. I do it all the time. The two are getting along now, with Liebe becoming Asta's new arm or even taking a chibi-form. And by combining with him, Asta can do some cool ass shit, like the Infinite Slash Equinox!

Junko: Here he charges Anti-Magic energy into the Demon-Slasher Katana, unleashing a large slash wave!

Monika: This technique will not harm his allies, even if they're right in the middle of the attack.

Junko: Hang on a second. A guy who wants to be king of something, has a giant badass sword, fights for his friends in a magical guild, and has a demon sealed inside of him? This guy's just a fusion of the Big 3 with Fairy Tail as a bonus!

 Monika: Asta's also unlocked some powerful transformations, like Black Asta.

Monika: After getting his arms mangled by an elf named Vetto, Asta's squadmate Vanessa went to her mother in order for her to help heal Asta's "incurable" curse. Which, of course, meant using her blood in order to remove the limit on Asta's Anti-Magic. He channels Anti-Magic all throughout his body which boosts his strength, speed, and durability, in addition to giving Asta the power of flight despite only having one wing.

Junko: He'd have to stand still with one of his swords out and concentrate in order to activate this form. I mean, he can do it while angry too but that would only make him go berserk. Right now, the form's taken a more simple appearance, manifesting as four horns on Asta's head and two wings on his back.

Monika: Very similar to Asta's Devil Union form.

Monika: The form Asta attained by completing the Devil-Binding Ritual and the strongest form currently available to him. Anti-Magic forms across his body, increasing his power, durability, speed, and mobility. Devil Union also massively amplifies the potency of Anti-Magic, allowing him to negate an Ancient Devil's blast meant to destroy the entire Clover Kingdom. Asta can remain in this form for up to five minutes. If the form is deactivated before the time limit runs out, they can resume the form with the time remaining. Once time runs out however, Asta will experience intense pain and won't be able to use his Union or Black form for 30 minutes.

Junko: By focusing Anti-Magic into a specific part of his body, Asta can also achieve a form called Partial Devil Union. With this, the time limit is doubled to 10 minutes, allowing Asta more use of this form's power. 

Monika: On top of that, he always has his True Demon Union.

Monika: When overwhelmed in battle with Lucifero, Asta reached a new level of understanding with Liebe. Coming to fully understand Liebe's sadness and pain, Asta embraced and reassured his devil, both united as one and as brothers against their foe. As Asta puts it, the feelings both had that overlapped prior had fully merged, and thus their Union became perfected.

Junko: "True" Devil Union is far stronger than the regular iteration, now capable of tanking blows from Lucifero with no issue, and ultimately it defeated the king of devils. Asta gains a fifth horn on his head, and his magic nullification is entirely passive, completely negating any magic that touches him. The form shares the same time constraints as the prior union state, however, so it is important to end the fight quickly while using it.

Monika: Right, Asta is powerful against magic users but can't negate everything.

Junko: Asta has been diagnosed with "terminal anime protagonist syndrome", meaning like everyone else, he's headstrong to a fault, being reckless and whatnot. It's also been acknowledged that Asta's reliability on negating magic means he has a difficult time against projectiles that lack any magic, and the same would apply to any non-magic attack in general.

Monika: Also despite getting a lot of women smitten over him, he constantly thinks he has a shot with a nun who's way older than him.

Junko: Oh come on, he has excellent taste!

Monika: Junko... nuns can't be in that kind of relationship.

Junko: Big deal. You know Asta's never gonna give her up. Just like he'll never let his friends down and he'll never turn around to desert his dreams!

Monika: Ri-... Wait a minute...

Asta: It's a weird feeling. Before, the things we felt overlapped. Now it's as if they've truly merged. And so it's not really about specific grudges now. All I know is that I have to take you down! I'm going to beat you and live!!
