Both are teenage cartoon heroes who started off as ordinary people until they gained biomechanical superpowers after forming a symbiotic relationship with biotechnological beings that were originally intended for more sinister purposes (Steel and Nanites), with their fathers secretly having direct involvement in incidents related to said sinister purposes and how they both got their powers (Rafael Salazar injecting nanites in Rex to save his life and Jim McGrath seeing his son Max using Steel as a pacifier before the Turbo Star test)

Both are also equipped with various different techno-modes and after losing control of their latent powers, they were discovered and recruited by organizations to fight biotechnologically enhanced supervillains and monsters around the world (Providence and N-Tek respectively)

Both have a blonde best friend (Noah Nixon and Sydney Gardner respectively) and share a close relationship with an agent in green colored attire (Agent Six and Forge Ferrus respectively)

Both are also archenemies with their series black-clad main villains (Van Kleiss and Miles Dread respectively) who were present and changed in the incident that killed the main hero's father, as well as require absorbing the same power source they use in order to stay alive (Nanties and T.U.R.B.O. Energy)

Both would also lose access to their arsenals at some point thanks to a villain (Rex had his Nanites drained from him by Van Kleiss, whereas Max and Steel were permanently separated by Terrorax,) but obtained new innate powers that granted them a greater extension of their abilities (Omega-1 Nanite and Green T.U.R.B.O. Energy)
