DB#009 Katie Rose (Mreth2345) vs. Zahra Kasmut (miss-gatsby)

Zahra turned her free fall out of the sky into a forward somersault. Her toes neatly touched down on the concrete of the power plant's parking lot.

"You're the one who killed Leon!" Katie pointed an accusatory finger at the tanned warrioress.

"Never heard of him," Zahra sighed, "Is he your boyfriend or something?"

"No!" Katie flushed a little at the suggestion.

"Uh-huh," Zahra ignored her and held a cellphone to her ear. "Mera, I think I'm going to be a little late. Oh, some angel or something. Is she cute?" Zahra glanced at Katie, "I dunno, maybe I'll take a picture before I wreck her. Be back in ten."

"Excuse me?" Katie's brown eyes darkened, "You killed Leon, and you're not going anywhere."

"Well then, sister, it looks like we have a problem here," Zahra said as she drew a pair of gleaming, curved scimitars. Katie let out a snort of laughter.

"You may have gotten the better of a rookie like him, but let's see how you do against one of the host of heaven!" the slender angel touched down into a fighting stance with both fists raised. 'Poor mortal.'

Katie's barrage of punches met an unrelenting wall of steel as Zahra countered with the flats of her blades, coolly observing her heavenly opponent. Her brown eyes lit up at an opportunity, and she sent Katie flinching away with a red line cut across her knuckles.

"Ow, ow, owie!" she winced, shaking her hand out.

"Hey, looks like scissors do beat rock," Zahra crossed her scimitars and snapped them together like a pair of shears.

"They do not," Katie pouted, running at her again. Inches from impact, Katie turned her forward momentum into a somersault over Zahra's head, aided by the tiny wings on her back. Landing behind her, she whipped around, sparks flying from her outstretched hand.

"Ah!" Painful jolts of electricity coursed down Zahra's spine. Katie preempted a counterattack by tapping Zahra's shoulder, then her elbow, paralyzing both with a powerful dose of electricity.

But Zahra had one more sword arm left. She swiped at the angel's head and only managed to chop off the tips of Katie's brown hair. Katie reappeared by her side, hands locked around her paralyzed arm.

"See ya!" Easily lifting her off her feet, Katie swung Zahra around, then hurled her through the power plant's concrete wall.

Katie dusted her palms together,

"And electricity beats everything."

"Good to hear." Katie spun around, shocked. Sparks sprayed through the gaping hole in the concrete as Zahra rose from a crushed generator.

"Rock, paper scissors, shoot!" Katie's green eyes widened as lightning sang forth from Zahra's fingertips.

Katie tumbled aside with not a moment to spare as lightning scorched the ground beside her. She lifted her gaze to see Zahra's scimitar an inch from her nose.

"You're no ordinary mortal..."

"I'm a Heka. From Egypt," the curvy warrioress shrugged, "It's a gift."

"You mean Heka' annoying!" Zahra leapt back from the bolt of lightning that streaked into the air where her head used to be. In an instant, Katie was soaring into the air on her pure white wings. She slalomed around a telephone pole and returned, sending lightning bolts arcing towards the ground. Zahra groaned,

"Now that's just not fair..." She threw herself onto her stomach as the pavement behind her exploded with light and a sound like a shotgun. A line of molten pavement was left in Katie's wake.

"Shit," Zahra's elbow smashed through the window of a car and she leaped inside just as Katie came around for a second barrage. A lightning bolt dissipated harmlessly over the metal frame of the car. 'This is bad..'

"You can't hide from me!" Katie dove out of the air like a bird of prey. The entire car jolted on its wheels as she connected with it, leaving a huge dent in the hood where she'd landed. "I see you," she sing-songed as Zahra pressed herself back into the seat.

"Well, do you see these too?" Zahra held up the two leads of the car she'd just hot-wired together. She hammered the accelerator.

"Woah, woah!" Air rushed past Katie's head, and then it was solid concrete. Zahra shut her eyes against shattering glass as she drove the pickup truck headlong through the power plant's walls.

She opened her eyes again cautiously. No sign of her. That was when she sensed the presence under the truck. A powerful one.

Zahra kicked open the door and stumbled out. She wasn't fast enough to avoid the explosion.

Zahra coughed as she crawled away from the ball of fire seething around the frame of the pickup truck. There was a blinding gold glow. She rolled onto her back, shielding her eyes.

"No way..." Katie hovered in the center of the wreckage, bathed in golden light. As Zahra watched, open-mouthed, plates of gold armor materialized over her turtleneck and jeans. Her wings reshaped into jets, streamlined against her back. Zahra heaved a sigh,

"Showoff..." The rest of her breath left her in a gasp as Katie snatched her off her feet.

The wind tore at Zahra's clothes and hair as Katie dragged her up in a dizzying ascent. She gasped for air, and saw blue, then the triumphant green of Katie's eyes.

"It's gonna be a bumpy ride," she winked before she surged through the air, heading straight for the power plant's tall smokestacks. Katie was little more than a golden blur as she crashed through them Zahra-first. The smokestacks toppled over each other like a line of dominoes.

"I dunno about Egypt," she said with a laugh to her barely-conscious passenger as she climbed into the air, "But how about a visit to China?" With that, she shot towards the ground.

She hit it, and kept on going, tunneling deep into the dirt. Zahra was aware of little other than the smell of earth and heat, then... a gas leak? She found Katie's head, pressed her hands to either side and let loose a powerful surge of electricity.

Katie had barely straightened up from the explosion when she heard metal swinging through the air and felt pain incising into her back.

"Ah!" she started forward, turning to see one of her wings fluttering to the ground, severed from her back.

"Looks like I just levelled the playing field," Zahra smirked, raising her scimitars again.

"That's impossible..." Katie's eyes widened. "The explosion...How did you...?" Electricity took the form of a pair of pistols in her hands. She fired. Zahra responded with a bolt of lightning from the tip of her blade. Katie was left blinking as her bullet deviated wildly from its flight path and zipped over her opponent's head.

"You missed," Zahra winked. 'And so did I...' she failed to point out.

Electrified bullets and bolts of lightning zinged back and forth between the dueling lightning users, spiralling off into the air like a laser show.

"You must tell me who does your hair," Zahra smirked. Katie briefly looked up, and noticed her electrified brown hair standing on end.

"Same person who does yours," Katie quipped, gesturing to Zahra's own.

"Oh man," she groaned, "It takes me forever to get it like that..."

Katie was sent toppling to the ground from a stray bolt of lightning, cursing as the charge scattered over her amor.

"That's it."

Zahra stepped back as golden light clustered around Katie. When it parted, she was staring down the twin barrels of a set of cannons balanced over the slight angel's shoulders.

"Gimme a break," she muttered as crackling orbs of electricity formed in each one.

"I've had it with you," Katie growled, "You hurt Leon and now I'm going to wipe you off the face of the earth!" Zahra's keen brown eyes darted wildly for an opening.

She found it. Zahra's scimitar flashed through the air and embedded itself nearly hilt deep in Katie's chest.

"Pointless," she spat.

"Oh come on, I just sharpened that." A powerful bolt of lightning burst forth from the scimitar left in her hand. It found its mark in the lightning rod that was its twin embedded in the Katie's chest and coursed outwards in a massive short circuit.

Flash! Went Zahra's cellphone camera. Charred corpse. It was a major improvement.

"Have fun with your boyfriend..." Zahra snickered as she walked away.

Analysis: I put Katie in more trouble than I thought when I paired her up with a fellow lightning user. See, lightning is a really complicated element because it is, technically, a 'wild' form of electricity. The strength and direction of electricity is (in a nutshell) dependent on charges and the path of least resistance. What this means for Katie and Zahra is that they are 'like' charges, and like repels like. What do you wanna bet that really messed with the accuracy Katie prides herself on? Without a direct means of establishing a 'circuit' (like Zahra's conducting swords), she had a much lower chance of actually hitting her opponent. Which is not to say Zahra couldn't take a hit. If anyone could have stood up to Katie's sheer destructive force, it was Zahra, with her heightened stats, regenerative abilities and many, many, many years of experience dealing with elemental users like her. Katie's angel form proved problematic for Zahra, quickly trumping her speed and power-wise. Certainly those cannons would have wrecked her day (and her hairdo!), but Zahra's regeneration and ability to sense presences around her ensured that she could outlast the angel just long enough to take her out!

Along with that, she has increased speed, agility and strength as well. The only way she can die is either by a) her head being ripped off or b) her heart being crushed. The lightning is as if it burst from a thundercloud itself; scorching hot and impossible to stop once she fires it.

She also is very stubborn, so she never quits. She would much rather die with a sword in hand than kneel for any show of mercy.
