Liu Kang VS Jago: Fire and Fury

(Wiz and Boomstick - Official Death Battle Theme Song)

https://youtu.be/I7w-_F_VgMY

Adam: Liu Kang, the fiery Dragon fighter of Mortal Kombat.

Nakano: And Jago, Killer Instinct's furious Tiger monk.

Adam: The tiger and the dragon are often depicted as mortal enemies in many oriental cultures, locked in an endless cycle of conflict and a symbol of mortal enemies that are similar yet vastly-different, and these two warrior monks are the embodiment of the beasts they take after.

Randy: But we're here to bring that cycle to a close by pitting these mighty monks against each other to settle things once and for all. He's Adam, that's Nakano and I'm Randy.

Wiz: And it's our job to analyze the weapons, armor, and skills of these two combatants to find out who would win..... a DEATH BATTLE.

Liu Kang seeks a Mortal Kombat in DEATH BATTLE

(Liu Kang (Born in China) - Austin Jons & The Immortals)

https://youtu.be/Lk-pCbIEYl4

Adam: Orphaned at a young age, Liu Kang was raised by shaolin monks, hidden deep within China. He far exceeded their expectations, so he was pretty much in his own rank. His prowess caught the attention of Lord Raiden, who saw the potential in him to save all of Earthrealm. To that end, he took Liu Kang to be trained under the martial arts legend of Outworld, Bo' Rai Cho.

Randy: Yes, that bearded chubby drunk man who vomits and farts on people to attack is the guy who trained Liu Kang. Well years later after completing his training, Raiden enrolled Liu Kang in his secret society the White Lotus, which Raiden created to protect Earthrealm.

Nakano: With Shao Kahn's champions having won nine Mortal Kombat tournaments in a row and just one victory away from conquering their realm, Liu Kang was chosen to defeat Shang Tsung.

Randy: And he did.

Adam: But his fight was far from over. After the tournament, he returned home to find most of his Shaolin brethren murdered by Tarkatan hordes. Seeking to avenge them, he, alongside his best friend Kung Lao, Lord Raiden, and the runaway Lin Kuei warriors Sub-Zero and Smoke, traveled to Outworld to confront Shao Kahn.

Low Dragon Fire

Fatalities (Burn Out, Belly of the Beast, Double Dragon, Spaghettification)

Resistance to Time Manipulation

Adam: Liu Kang has studied various martial arts under the Shaolin monks, from the defensive Choy Lay Fut which is created to fight multiple opponents at once to Bruce Lee's signature Jeet Kun Do which focuses on kicks, grapples and punches, hence his signature Flying Kick and Bicycle Kick. Kinda makes since Bruce Lee is an inspiration for Liu Kang.

Nakano: Though he's not afraid to use weapons like nunchucks when fists and kicks aren't enough. He can use fire to either create projectiles, become a fiery dragon himself or set his limbs alight to increase his striking power like the Dragon's Tail, Low Dragon, Cosmic Flame and Dancing Dragon to name a few.

Randy: Of course, Liu Kang wouldn't be a true Mortal Kombat character without Fatalities. Like his Double Dragon where he makes orange and blue dragons of fire which proceeds to grab an arm play tug of war before he slams their head down their body and crush it. Or Spaghettification where he summons a portal for him and his victim to go through that leads into outer space before summoning a red and blue black hole and holds them at its event horizon as it rips off their skin, then their muscles and organs, then even their bones crumble to dust and get sucked away.

Adam: But if he's up against a powerful foe that even he couldn't handle, Liu Kang can tap into his Fire God form. In this state, Liu Kang's power not only skyrockets but he also gains the ability over electricity as Fire God is a result of Liu Kang and Raiden fusing. While originally needing Raiden to use it, Liu Kang has never lost it after the events of MK11 and the start of MK1.

Feats

His Chi can possibly break Diamond, according to Shang Tsung (Comics)

Chopped a titanium Mortal Kombat sign and broke it

Defeated Ermac , Scorpion, Quan Chi, Goro, Shang Tsung, Kintaro, Shao Kahn , Kitana, Kung Lao, Shinnok, Cetrion, Kronika and Shang Tsung

As a zombie slaughtered multiple Shaolin monks

Has saved Earthrealm multiple times

Managed to catch and throw the Wrath Hammer

Can turn into a dragon and summon Mortal Kombat machines

As a Revenant, Helped the other Revenants beat up Raiden and took Shinnok's throne after his defeat

Defeated his own Revenant form

Turn into God of Fire and Thunder in Mortal Kombat 11 after Raiden mixed his revenant counterpart with him

Along with Kitana, become the new Keeper of Time and space after Kronika was destroyed

Defeated Shang Tsung, while he held Kronika's Crown

Created the New Era, where he mentored the Great Kung Lao, the ancestor of Kung Lao

Adam: Liu Kang has proven time and time again that he's one of Earthrealm's strongest defenders. He can shatter titanium with ease, his chi can supposedly break diamond and has bested many of Outworld's warriors which includes Shang Tsung, Ermac, Quan Chi, Goro and Shao Kahn himself. The latter is very important to discuss as Shao Kahn had devoured millions of souls from Earthrealm when he merged Outworld with it and can be comparable to Elder Gods like Cetrion and Kronika. He's also as fast as Raiden who can move as fast as lightning.

Randy: Essentially he terraformed Outworld into Earthrealm and has done so to other realm like Edenia. On Earthrealm alone this would be at 47.8 Zettatons of TNT and remember, that's just on Earthrealm alone. Adding the other realms Kahn has conquered only stacks the power. Not only that but Kahn also bested Blaze who caused Armageddon by devouring existence itself. And Liu Kang defeated Kahn multiple times without his Fire God form.

Popup: While Blaze's ending isn't canon, it still shows the power Blaze wields and what would've happened had Shao Kahn not defeated him.

Nakano: With his Fire God form, Liu Kang has fought said Elder Gods Cetrion and Kronika. Hell Liu Kang was even unaffected by the Hourglass' powers which could rewind time as far back as the Chaotian or Prehistoric Age. And he easily kicked Kronika's ass in that form.

Weaknesses

Was unable to reunite with his reanimated body

Despite his amazing powers and skills, he is still a mortal man

Defeated by Raiden and Shang Tsung

Has been killed the most throughout the series

Blown to meaty pieces by Shinnok

Killed by Shang Tsung with Quan Chi's help

In the Neatherrealm canon, eventually fried to death by Raiden

Weapons are not always useful

Spirit passed on after Nightwolf died on the Battle of Armageddon, and so did his body

Parry can be punished by low attacks and specials

Nakano: However, Liu Kang for all that he's done, is still a mortal man. He has been killed numerous times in the Mortal Kombat universe as such being teamed by Quan Chi and Shang Tsung, blown up by Shinnok and even electrocuted to death by his mentor Raiden after Liu Kang found out Raiden reset the timeline and other events which made him think the Thunder God had gone mad.

Randy: Dick move, Raiden. Dick move. And because Scorpion killed Quan Chi when Liu Kang was a Revenant, he was unable to return to his living body. Though that changed with the events of MK11.

Adam: Still, Liu Kang has only died two times on separate occasions, one of which when he was teamed up by Quan Chi and Shang Tsung in the original timeline and the other when Raiden killed him in the alternate timeline. That's the lowest kill count compared to other MK characters we've seen. There's no denying that Liu Kang was and still remains the undisputed champion of Mortal Kombat.

Liu Kang: You have chosen to defy peace..... then you have chosen war with a God!

Jago shows off his Killer Instinct in DEATH BATTLE

(The Tiger Warrior - Mick Gordon)

https://youtu.be/IPWEDJgDLSU

Adam: Abandoned as a baby in the Himalayas, Jago was discovered by a group of Tibetan monks known simply as the Monks of the Tiger. Adopting the infant into their ranks, Jago was raised in their devout, honorable ways.

Randy: Seriously, what gives with all these babies being abandoned or sent away and growing up to become such a badass?! I want cool powers too! Though let me tell you, these Tibetan monks aren't like the ones in real life. These guys worshipped an entity called the Tiger Spirit.

Nakano: Jago's training and skills over time made him one of the greatest Tiger Monks ever. Though not without a couple of hurdles. While training, he killed a fellow Tiger Monk in self-defense but learned that monk was possessed by an evil spirit. Jago put himself into self-imposed isolation, but his journey didn't stop there.

Randy: Because he had become the greatest Tiger Monk ever, Jago was visited by the Tiger Spirit, the very being that the monks worship. The Tiger Spirit knew of Jago's immense prowess and infused Jago with his power. Which only made Jago even more powerful, now he was undoubtedly the greatest Tiger Monk of all.

Jago

Superhuman strength and speed

Swordsmanship

Karo Sword

Various martial arts (Knows Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do, Karate, and surprisingly Ninjitsu)

Fire Manipulation

Telekinesis

Neck Cutter

Laser Blade

Endokuken

Wind Kick

Tiger Fury

Double Roundhouse

Shadow Endokuken

Shadow Laser Blade

Shadow Tiger Fury

Shadow Wind Kick

The Tiger Spirit

Instinct Mode (Tiger's Focus, heals Jago whenever he lands a hit)

Shadow Jago

No Mercy (Sword Stab, Falling Car, Jago throws a charged Endouken which incinerates the enemy, Jago spins and throws a sword made of energy to his opponent, stabbing them)

Randy: Jago has mastered several martial arts like Kung Fu Tae Kwon Do, Karate and Ninjutsu of all things under the monks that worship the Tiger Spirit such with moves like the Wind Kick and Double Roundhouse. He has his Karo sword which he honed his skills in and can fire lasers from it as well.

Adam: And with the Tiger Spirit, Jago can use the ability to use fire such as with Endokuken, Tiger Fury or fire laser with Laser Blade. And with Instinct Mode, Jago can use Tiger's Focus which not allow his to fire two Endokuken at once but also heals him 1.75% health.

Nakano: But that's not all, Jago also has ultimates called No Mercy, which is similar to Mortal Kombat's Fatalities but less bloody. He can either stab you three times, crush you with car via telekinesis, incinerate you with a charged Endokuken or just throw a sword made of energy at you.

Randy: ..... Wow, you weren't kidding when you said those are tamed to compared to the Fatalities.

Adam: However, The Tiger Spirit is not actually what is it but is actually a demon called Omen, herald of Gargos, disguised as it and should Jago fully embrace it, he becomes Shadow Jago. Shadow Jago has all of Jago's abilities but more powerful, purple in color and can teleport.

Popup: While it is not clear in the games if the Tiger Spirit and Gargos are the same entity, it has since been clarified that they are separate beings, as Jago was able to use the powers infused within him even after Gargos and Omen stop having control and possession over his body.

Feats

Defeated Orchid, Fulgore, Sabrewulf, Shadow Jago, Gargos and Eyedol

Exorcised Omen himself

Defeated his personal assassin, Sadira, whose needles can bypass durability

Reunited with his sister, Orchid

Won the third Killer Instinct Tournament

Was trained the the legendary Abbot

Defeated Gargos 2,000 years in the past

Has defeated a countless number of "Omens"

Became the strongest Tiger Monk at the fastest pace

Survived a beat down from Gargos in the present (Gargos had gotten much stronger from their previous encounter)

After a long period of meditation Jago had mastered the Tiger Spirit

Fought against UltraTech's Butcher, Fulgore on three separate occasions (First time Jago demolished Fulgore, second time Jago needed Orchid's help, third time Jago and Fulgore fought to a standstill)

Nakano: Jago has went up against a wide variety of foes in the Killer Instinct tournament, even winning the third one. The roster includes the likes of Riptor, Glacius, Fulgore, Sabrewulf, Aganos, Tusk and even his own sister Black Orchid. He can send Fulgore flying with a single kick and the big robot weighs in at 500lbs, and Jago can do the same to Aganos who's way heavier.

Randy: He's also comparable to Chief Thunder and Glacius. Chief Thunder can move as fast as lightning and Glacius got the jump on ARIA who can react in a nanosecond. And with his powers, Jago is capable of going toe-to-toe with Gargos and Eyedols, two of the biggest bads in Killer Instinct.

Adam: And Gargos' power is no joke. The Mimics claims he can wipe out entire suns and Gargos' fight with Eyedol was so intense that it caused an "explosion of stars". Now sure, Jago did need help from Kim Wu, Tusk and Aganos to beat Gargos, but still an impressive feat. And Jago defeated the Immortal Barbarian Tusk as Shadow Jago before erasing his parts of his memories.

Weaknesses

Constantly keeping himself in control to not give into the influences of Gargos (Does not just include Shadow Jago)

Skilled in many Martial Arts, expert in none

Charging an Endokuken can leave him wide open

Is not a team player

Endokuken leaves him open while charging

Using Shadow Jago for too lang can drive Jago further into madness

Adam: That being said, Jago is flawless. He's easily angered despite being a monk and prefers to work alone, which ended up biting him in the ass when he took on Gargos without aid and got his ass kicked. And he has struggled to keep himself in control since it was revealed the Tiger Spirit he was guided by was actually Gargos and the longer he uses his Shadow form, the more his souls gets torn apart.

Nakano: His Endokuken takes time to charge which leaves him vulnerable and for someone who's been taught in several martial arts, he's not really skilled in using any of them like at all which allows him to get overwhelmed by far more skilled combatants.

Randy: But one thing's for certain: Enter his temple uninvited and you'll find out the hard way why this Tiger Warrior has a natural Killer Instinct.

Jago: I'm afraid your path ends here.

(^)(^)(^)(^)(^)(^)

Adam: All right, the combatants are set. Let's end this debate once and for all.

Adam, Nakano and Randy: It's time... For a DEATH BATTLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Chaotian Age

(Fire and Fury Vocal Version - Brandon Yates)

https://youtu.be/1qOtlZhO-II

Liu Kang, after becoming the new Fire God is seen at Kronika's Hourglass, trying to reshape the timeline. After history has been fully reset, he's conflicted about what to do. Suddenly, another Mysterious monk, resembling the tiger spirit, shows up engulfed in tiger spirit energy, like a teleportation. Liu Kang is still trying to fix what went wrong, and yet he noticed the person behind him who had just appeared.

He stops working on the Hourglass, and senses something behind him. Jago had shot an Endokuken, but Liu Kang used his nunchaku to quickly absorb it. He then turns around and sees Jago there.

Jago: You..... how did I get here?

He was meditating when he was transported from his temple to here.

Liu Kang: I don't know..... but you seem to love picking a fight.

The Guardian of Fire brought out his nunchucks and got into a fighting pose.

Jago: ..... Very well then. If you insist.

Jago draws his sword out and too got into a stance.

FIGHT!

Liu Kang shoots out a fireball which then collides with Jago's Endouken. Both repeatedly do this for a bit, until Liu Kang teleports to avoid the next Endokuken thrown by Jago. He decides to do a low kick to knock Jago off guard. As Jago is falling, Liu Kang does a powerful Shaolin strike to send Jago flying back a bit. Jago gets back up and takes out his sword, he rushes at Liu Kang who gets ready to block Jago's attacks.

Jago tries to hit Kang twice with his sword but misses before Liu Kang uses his nunchucks to grab Jago, and toss him back. Liu Kang then unleashed multiple fireballs, but Jago quickly gets up and reflects all of them with his sword, a few of them hitting Liu Kang.

Liu Kang: You are a formidable warrior, yet you're no match for a god.

Jago: I've dealt with gods before, this should be no problem.

Jago charges up a powerful shadow version of the Endokuken to shoot at Liu Kang, while also planning to use telekinesis to launch two meteorites from where they're fighting towards Liu Kang. The fiery monk charges up his own fire while adding electricity and shoots it to collide with the giant Endokuken, creating an explosion. But Kang doesn't notice that after the explosion subsided, there are meteorites heading towards him he gets hit by the impact of one, and is bleeding through his chest but reacts fast enough to destroy the other one with a lightning bolt.

Jago then rushes at Liu Kang from behind, and swipes at his chest with his sword. He then punches Liu Kang twice, leading to a Tiger Fury. Kang is launched backwards, now bleeding and fatally wounded by Jago's attacks. But he remains calm as the his energy and electricity starts to heal his wounds. He gets back up and is ready to fight Jago again, who is equally ready to combat Liu Kang

He flies towards Jago and shoots out some electricity/fire projectiles but Jago dodges all of them. He swipes some of them with the Laser Sword, and deals with the others with his own projectiles.

Kang then lands on the ground, and empowers his fists with fire. He then punches Jago a few times, and ends it with a kick sending him flying back. Liu Kang then teleports, leaving no time behind for Jago to recover. He strikes Jago's knee with his nunchaku twice, but after he tries to use his flaming fist to punch towards Jago's chest. Jago has had enough and grabs Kang's fist, nullifying all of his fire power as his body turned blue, becoming Shadow Jago!

Jago: You have no power. And you are no god.

Jago then stabs Liu Kang again, But Liu Kang's eyes then turn blue, tapping into his Fire God form and throws a fist, powered by both fire and electricity, to shatter Jago's sword.

Jago: what the hell?!

Jago is surprised, but doesn't give up. Liu Kang then unleashes his fire dragon to try and kill Jago, but Jago simply unleashes an enormous ball of Endokuken energy. And destroys the dragon with it, as a huge fiery explosion is let out, sending Jago and Liu Kang flying backwards. Both are wounded and tired.

Jago gets back up as Liu Kang does. Both were determined to win. Jago and Liu Kang rush at each other. Jago summons a portal as he then dodges one of Kang's punches. Jago then does a wind kick, into multiple punches, but Liu Kang counters with his own fiery punches, he does a combo with a few kicks with a hit from his nunchaku, but Jago does a-

C-C-COMBO BREAKER!

Which allows Jago the opportunity to kick Liu Kang into the portal as Jago then closes it, sealing Liu Kang for good.

Jago: It's over.....

Jago walks away until all of sudden a fiery explosion is being seen from behind.

Jago: Impossible.....what now?!

As the Tiger Warrior turns back, he's stunned to see that Liu Kang is back. He teleported from the portal and avoided the effects of it. Jago tried to rush at Liu Kang to seal his soul. Liu Kang is seen frozen as Jago is trying to get rid of his soul, but then Liu Kang does some movement, revealing he is really unaffected and kicks Jago backwards making him cough blood.

Liu Kang: You're path ends here.

Liu Kang uses his electricity to paralyze Jago, he then launches him upwards into the sky.

Liu Kang: I'm sorry, but you left me no choice.

Announcer: FINISH HIM!

He grabs Jago by the throat and makes a portal into outer space before summoning a black hole below, which eventually sucks up the Tiger Warrior skin first, followed by flesh and bones, killing the warrior monk.

Liu Kang: It is done.

KO!

* Liu Kang gets back to work on the Hourglass.

* The portal closes on where Liu Kang killed Jago.

Results

(Fire and Fury Vocal Version again)

Randy: LIU KANG WINS!  FATALITY!!!

Adam: Liu Kang and Jago are formidable warriors and without a doubt one of the strongest characters in their respective universes. But in the end, Liu Kang simply had all of the key advantages needed to overcome Jago. Both fought a wide variety of combatants in the Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct universes respectively, ranging from cyborgs, demons, aliens and even their dark counterparts. But Liu Kang's resume is more impressive as he has also fought Gods and Titans such as Shinnok and Kronika, which not even Gargos and Eyedol can be classed as.

Nakano: Liu Kang also held the edge in martial arts. Despite being trained by monks, Jago rarely used said martial arts in most of his fights whereas Liu Kang has bested equally skilled foes. Jeet Kun Do in particular is a game changer as it's not only nearly hard to predict but also focused on intercepting an enemy's movement and launch a counterattack.

Randy: As for Jago potentially stealing or sealing Liu Kang's soul? Considering Liu Kang bested Shang Tsung and Shao Kahn, who're experts in stealing and devouring souls, that's out of the window as well.

Nakano: Now, it's not to say Jago is completely outgunned. Scaling Jago to Chief Thunder and Liu Kang to Raiden puts them on similar speeds and Jago has defeated Gargos, who's capable of wiping out suns and Gargos' fight with Eyedol caused an explosion of stars.

Popup: Even using Cetrion's 2% lightspeed space laser and ARIA's nanosecond reaction wouldn't have made a difference.

Adam: But Liu Kang beating Shao Kahn is nothing to scoff at, especially when he merges conquered worlds into Outworld. While we don't know the exact amount of realms he's merged to Outworld, we do know he's done the same to Edenia, Arnyek Islands, Osh-Tekk, Vaeternus, Zaterra, Searealm, Lightrealm, Darkrealm and Bloodrealm and had done so to Earthrealm before Raiden reset the timeline. And Shao Kahn had bested Blaze who threatened to devour existence itself.

Randy: The final nail in Jago's coffin are their ultimate forms: Fire God Liu Kang and Shadow Jago. Both increase their powers, gain new abilities and are usually the result of another person merging with them, Raiden for Liu Kang and Omen for Jago. However, Shadow Jago is more deadly to use as Jago is being influence by Omen and the more he uses Shadow Jago, the more insane he gets and his soul getting ripped apart. Whereas Fire God has no such drawbacks and this is the same form that allowed Liu Kang to be unaffected by Kronika's Hourglass which rewinded time as far back as the Prehistoric Age, a universal level feat. Definitely above Gargos and Eyedol's "explosion of stars" fight.

Nakano: In this fiery battle between dragon and tiger, Liu Kang's greater strength, superior skills, and Fire God form are just the things he need to beat Jago.

Randy: Looks like Liu Kang had the Killer Instinct to beat Jago in this Mortal Kombat.

Adam: The winner is Liu Kang.

COMPARISON

Liu Kang

= Roughly equal in speed

+ Stronger and tougher

+ Greater martial arts skills

+ Could resist having his soul taken or sealed

+ Fire God form lacks exploitable weaknesses

- Not as skilled in weapons

Jago

= Roughly equal in speed

+ Shadow Jago increases power.....

+ Better swordsmanship

- Weaker and less durable

- Not as skilled in martial arts

- ..... but prolonged use would drive Jago mad
