Dear Mr Burr,

                             I hope this letter finds you in good health and in prosperous enough position to answer some questions I wish to forward. As you are aware, your daughter, Theodosia and I, have been corresponding for several months through a series of letters due to the ban you and my Father have put in place in order to stop us communicating. Although we have gone against your wishes, we did so with the best intentions, however, something came to light recently that I wish to ask you about.

In a recent exchange with your daughter, it came to my attention that you had her spend her Summer doing school work rather than embracing the warmer weather and having some time to herself. This struck me as odd for two reasons. One, I understand that you want what is best for her, but keeping her as a prisoner is certainly not the best thing for her. Two, the more you try and control her, the more likely it is she will rebel against you and do something both dangerous and stupid.

Therefore, Mr Burr, it is my request that you allow your daughter more time to spend with others and less time doing school work. You may want to increase her academic skills, but in doing so you may loose your daughter due to the interfering.

Notes;

As this letter was sent to Aaron Burr, we have little to no knowledge as to how this ended up in the hands of Eliza Hamilton, much less in amongst her husband's writings. However, this does suggest that young Philip Hamilton cared for Theodosia as he would not have risked sending this letter if he did not have a reason he believed strongly in. The idea of Hamilton approaching Burr in this matter is curious to us as he previously said that they should become better at keeping their letter writing secret from their parents. Yet, Hamilton openly addressed Burr in order to inform him of the information he had been given by young Theodosia. Whether Theodosia knew of this letter or not, we do not know.
