Pretty Lies
Shadow was helpless.
She'd been laying on her bed for the past hour, taking her time and making sure her loopy handwriting was perfect for the next letter she'd send to Felix.
Shadow had loved Felix from the start. The way he acted too cool for anyone else but on the inside was a total dorko. She hadn't planned on him knowing she was his secret admirer, but now that they were dating, she considered signed under her real name. She heard shouting from Felix's house but assumed he was just getting mad because he couldn't figure out a question from school or something and ignored it, not realizing it was a different voice in her lovesick haze.

It was around 10 P.M. when Shadow caught sight of a hooded figure storming into the room and slam the door.
Her prince. Felix.
She tucked her note into a rosey-red envelope and slid it under his pillow before he could see, jumping onto her branch right in front of his window.
"Evening, boyfriend~"
"Shadow."
Her smile fell at his surprisingly cold tone. When she looked closer she did notice that he looked a bit different. His smile when they usually met didn't appear and, even though the hoodie she gave him hid most of his face, she didn't miss the wet lines trailing down his cheeks.
"Felix, are you okay?"
"Yes."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes!"
"You really don't seem like-"
"I said I'm FINE!"
She flinched back. Felix had never yelled at her like that before.
"I-I was only trying to help..."
Felix felt a pang of guilt, but he pushed it away, telling himself over and over that this was better for the both of them, that Shadow would be more worried in a relationship with him than without.
"Shadow."
"Yes?"
"You know we're friends."
"Yes..."
"That's why I'm breaking up with you."
Shadow felt her heart shattering into a million tiny pieces and tried to prevent her tears from falling in case she could convince him otherwise.
"But... You love me..."
"We can't be together."
"I-is it your roommates? We can run away and-"
"NO, Shadow. I can't love you."
Lies. All lies.
Shadow felt her tears fall despite her internal screaming at them to stop.
"Am I not good enough?"
No, you're perfect. I'm not good enough for you.
"Shadow, let's just leave it at that."
"Am I too weird? Am I what they saw me as? The weird girl with the fucked up eyes and obsession with stars and fire in her hands? The unloveable FREAK!?"
"N-no-"
"Do you know how much that hurt!? How many scars lined my ugly body and how much food was forced away and how much was hidden because I tried to make myself better!?"
"Shadow, listen-"
"NO, YOU LISTEN TO ME! I FINALLY THOUGHT SOMEONE LOVED AND ACCEPTED ME FOR WHO I AM, BUT IT TURNS OUT IT WAS JUST ANOTHER PERSON PLAYING WITH MY EMOTIONS LIKE I'M JUST A STUPID PUPPET! HE WAS JUST ANOTHER LIAR ABUSING ME IN THE WORST WAY POSSIBLE! DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW BROKEN I AM RIGHT NOW!?"
"... No...
Felix couldn't ignore the tears spilling from his loved one's beautiful eyes, soaking her thin gray fur that was usually so clean and shimmering in the light.
"Look at me, Felix."
He didn't move, keeping his eyes on a couple flitting sparrows. If he didn't leave Shadow, Bendy would probably kill her.
"Look at me. Look me in the eyes and tell me that you don't love me."
He trembled as he moved his head to meet her crying eyes, one blue, one red. The eyes of the girl he loved. The one who was now wiping her never-ending tears with the sleeve of her rainbow hoodie.
"I don't love you."
She went quiet for a few moments before smiling shakily and going back to her own window, mumbling a final farewell.
"Goodbye, Felix."
Shadow was helpless.
