20 - Accident

The bell rang after hours of tiring lessons and I heaved a sigh before collecting my belongings.

"Lyn?"

I looked up at Rena already finished packing her stuff.

"I'm visiting my grandparents today and spending the night there," she said, giving me a small smile. "Just wanted to refresh my mind and be spoiled by them."

"Of course," I exclaimed, gently hugging her. "Go and spend some time for healing. You need it."

She nodded and waved at me before heading out the door.

I guess today will be a lonely day.

I'll be spending the night alone in that big old house and Jimin didn't even come to see me today.

"Lyn?"

I looked at the door, expecting to see Rena, but was surprised when I saw Jimin instead.

"J-Jimin?"

With a soft sheepish smile, he strode towards me with his hands behind his back.

"Um... I was wondering if you and I could go somewhere today..." He scratched his nape, his eyes darting around the classroom.

Aww...

I bit back my grin. "Somewhere where exactly?"

He cleared his throat, loosening his tie. "A cat cafe I wanted to visit for a while. And by for a while, I mean decades."

"Sure," I giggled, wooed by his sudden adorable nervousness. "Let's go."

"Why are we taking the bus? Is it that far?"

The bus stop was pretty crowded, I had the sudden urge to just go home and wrap myself in my blanket, having the siesta of my lifetime. I hated crowded places.

"Unfortunately, yes. If you could teleport like me, we wouldn't be taking the bus, though."

"Wow," I exclaimed sarcastically. "Are you flexing on me right now?"

Our bus arrived and we both got on it, standing around the front area. It wasn't that full, but not quite empty, either.

"And what if I am? What about it," he chuckled, teasing me as he leaned down to my eye level.

I huffed, annoyed. "Why is there even a cat cafe?"

"It's a thing. Just like Hawaiian pizza," he giggled while poking my cheek. "Made for those who would really appreciate it."

I nodded. "Just like mint chocolate."

He gawked at me, horrified by what I said. "Oh my lord... You like mint chocolate?"

Looking at him with wide eyes, I retaliated, "You like Hawaiian pizza! Why are you judging me?"

I huffed, feeling offended. "Mint chocolate is one of the best flavors of ice cream, okay?"

He giggled before pulling my face towards himself to place a kiss on my cheek.

My face burned up. I couldn't process what just happened. His sudden move was so sudden, I was frozen still for a moment. The trace of his lips lingered on my skin even though it happened so fast.

"W-Wha..."

His face stayed there, a few inches away from mine, his soft gaze holding me dearly, making my stomach do back flips.

I was getting lost in his dark orbs. My surroundings seemed to have disappeared as I could only feel the two of us in our own little world.

However, that safe little world was suddenly shaken by an immense force that threw the entire bus off the road, shattering the windows and crashing everything inside. All of the passengers, including us, fell onto the windows when the bus got flipped on its side.

Hitting my shoulder and arms harshly against the chairs, I could only hiss in pain when the impact affected me. Some shards of glass cut my face and neck, bleeding me, but I couldn't move myself, dazed and completely at the mercy of the force that was pinning me down.

When I finally regained my senses as the bus stopped moving, screams and cries filled my ears. Falling back to the ground after failing to lift myself up with the little strength I had left in me, I scanned my surroundings to find most of the passengers bleeding heavily, crushed by the seats that were thrown off their hinges, or deeply cut by the broken windows.

I shook my head, trying to focus my vision, and looked back at Jimin.

He was uninjured, free of any bruise, but was rubbing his head, probably trying to recover from the shocking collision.

"J- Ji-" I coughed, my voice coming out in hoarse whispers because I hit my chest on the chair just now.

"Please someone, save us!"

"Oh my god, my son is bleeding! Someone help!"

"I can't feel my legs!"

"Someone please call an ambulance!"

People were screaming and screaming, begging for help. Everyone seemed heavily injured.

One man had his legs crushed by a huge chair, his bones seemed to be broken as they looked deformed, his clothes dripping blood that was spilling all over the place.

A woman at the far back had her abdomen pierced with dozens of glass shards, her chest moving up and down ever so slowly as she was barely breathing, while her eyes were fighting to open for more than one second.

I couldn't bear the sight before me.

I couldn't believe that everything was real, that it was actually happening.

People were dying before me and I couldn't do anything as I was injured as well.

Get up, Lyn. You have to get up and do something!

No matter how many times I forced my arms to prop myself up, I fell right back just as quick.

People are dying...

My eyes started watering.

"Please save my baby," a young woman screamed while sobbing.

I looked back again to see a pregnant lady crying and clutching her belly, begging for someone to save her child.

I gasped when my eyes landed on her belly that was bleeding because of the glass shards that cut her.

"J-Jimin!" I tried reaching him when he lifted himself up with his hands. "Please save these people! Please! Please save that pregnant woman!"

He grabbed my face before inspecting it for injuries. He let out a shuddering breath, his face twisting in pain.

"Oh my gosh... I can't believe I risked your life like this. I should have known that this bus would have gotten into an accident beforehand..." He bit his lips. "I'm so sorry..."

I shook my head. "That's not important right now. You have to help these people or else they'll die! We're almost stranded here, aren't we?"

I couldn't hear any cars passing or any other sound at that except people's heartbreaking cries that seemed to quieten as minutes passed.

He pulled my body to make me sit up.

"I... can't do that."

My eyes widened. "What?"

"These people were already destined to die this way. I must not interfere with their fate."

"W-What are you saying? Can't you at least save that pregnant woman? Her child-"

"I can't, Lyn!" His voice became firm as if he was reprimanding me. "I must not cross the line!"

I whimpered. "B-But-"

"This is not how you die, so just close your eyes and hold me tightly."

I couldn't fight back.

I obliged as tears fell from my eyes, closing them to stop sobbing.

He wrapped his arms around me tightly and the noises suddenly died out. Everything was quiet.

I opened my eyes to find myself in a hospital room in his arms.

Unable to keep my consciousness any longer, I fell to the floor, passing out.
