Epilogue.
October 25, 2:41 pm, one year later.
"Jeon Jungkook," Sunyoung pronounced the Korean syllables engraved on the late lad's gravestone, holding on Seolhee's right hand. "Seolhee unnie, who is he? Was he your boyfriend? A handsome oppa?" Her cheeks gleamed pink in curiosity, tilting her head up to look at Seolhee who was seriously looking down the grave.
The now short-haired woman then held her small hand tighter and thought, She's too innocent. Sunyoung knew nothing about what happened a year ago. Sunyoung was just Seolhee's cousin, of course, her cousin who lost a mother just like she did.
She then kneeled on the prickly grassed and gently used her hand to wrap around Sunyoung's waist, just to pull the eight year old closer to her. The latter then slung her her small arm around Seolhee's shoulder, pouting at the scene.
"Yeah, us happened. And he is a handsome oppa, really." Seolhee answered, trying to let out a sweet chuckle but instead let out a bitter one. "And also, do you know that he used to ride on a bike and chase me down the street before? I was stubborn as hell because I was annoyed at him. He even bought a bike just because to chase after me." She released another pained laugh. Memories shot through her head one by one.
"Really? That's really cool, he must really love you. But how about Joonki oppa? Isn't he as handsome and as good at biking too?" She joked. Seolhee's eyes widened and she was taken aback at how the little girl mentioned another person's name- a name that wasn't Jungkook's.
It's all because Seolhee knew that she couldn't accept any other guy in his life until she recovers.
"Why did he die?" she then asked, judging by her previous reaction she probably didn't want to answer. But this time she decided to, just to satisfy the little kid's general curiosity. Even if it wasn't a real answer.
"Well, that's just how it is," She shrugged, "What do you think he was actually like, Sunyoungie?"
Sunyoung got into a thinking position and thought, "You kept on telling me stories about who he was to you. He was someone really important and nice, someone who cared about you more than anything. someone who comforted you, a perfect guy. You said that!" She giggled, making her older cousin laugh and ruffle her hair.
He had never left her mind, not even once.
But the acceptance was strong. No one in the world stays forever, and Seolhee was used to it. From the moment she witnessed her late aunt die to when she finally made the choice to leave her mom and live with someone else, it stayed in her mind that everyone comes and goes. And that's including Jeon Jungkook.
"Yeah, I know you two will suit together. You look like a princess, unnie, even before you had your short hair. And you described Jungkook oppa as a prince, wouldn't it be a perfect match?" She squeaked. Seolhee simply smiled to what the little one had said and suddenly remembered the parts of her that Jungkook loved about her.
Her smile, her eyes, her nose, her lips, her everything, Jungkook loved every single one of those things that made up Nam Seolhee. And Seolhee loved all the things that made him up, too. Seolhee remembered that even when she cries and when she gets bruises and scratches on face, Jungkook would say that she still looked beautiful to him. That was how much he was drawn to her.
Until things falled apart, and well, Jungkook stopped being him.
And then, death.
"Isn't it your birthday today, Seolhee unnie?" Sunyoung suddenly remembered. "Jungkook oppa! It's her birthday today too! Don't you know how much Seolhee misses you a lot? She wants to see you again, you know? But don't worry, the day you two meet again I'll make sure you'll marry each other! I'm hoping that you're doing fine up there!" She squeaked in excitement, later on clapping her hands.
Seolhee just smiled at how the little girl just acknowledged her birthday more than her death in her own message.
Seolhee then heaved a deep breath. "Thank you, Sunyoung-ah. You may put the roses down on his grave now, Sunyoung." She told her. The child then nodded her head and bent down to lay down the roses on Jungkook's grave.
It wasn't long before Sunyoung's stepmother started walking towards her with a smile across her face.
"Sunyoung-ah," she called, making the small kid glance at her in a split second. "I know how much you want to be with your unnie right now, but I think she needs some privacy with Seolhee, okay? Let's go." Her stepmom invited, making her pout and sigh.
"That's all, Jungkook oppa, I'll make sure to visit you with unnie once again. She visits you every two weeks you know, she misses you that much. Watch over her, okay?" She smiled at Jungkook in front of her, and after a while she waved a goodbye to Seolhee.
She's left all alone, again.
Heaving a sigh, Seolhee then gathered up the courage and stood up slowly, looking down at the ground where Jungkook grave lies on. The flashbacks appeared in her mind further back to those days she spent with Jungkook together. They didn't know each other for a long time but she knew how much their feelings grew for each other in a small period of time, which they didn't think much about before.
"I'm sorry," Seolhee said, her voice slowly descending to sorrow as tears start to form in her eyes little by little. "No matter how much I've told you how sorry I am, it doesn't seem to be enough. I really could've known where were you.. and saved you." She said and painfully smiled in regret.
"I don't know, but something inside of me makes me think that I was a nuisance in you all I know, but you treated me so specially. I'm really sorry, you know. And also. my hair? I'm sorry for cutting it, I knew you loved it so much." She then said and grabbed the ends of her now short hair.
Seolhee missed Jungkook more than she has ever missed anything in her life.
"You know, Jungkook, if you were alive until now, I would've helped you become better. I didn't know you became sick and accidentally got killed. I swear, if you were still alive we could've bettered ourselves together. We could've taught each other new things, we could'ved visited new places together, and we could've been happier."
Seolhee rode his bike towards new home that night, the bike Jungkook had bought just to be able to catch up with Seolhee whenever she tries to get away from him. The pain in her heart still remained and it makes it difficult to smile at anyone sincerely.
"And Donggyu is in prison, you know? He only got into prison because he raped a girl, I didn't know. Sorry, it was wrong of me not to report him right away before, because if I did then I wouldn't have caused trouble between you and Jinshil. And speaking of Jinshil, she's in prison too. She misses you too, I'm sure. I'm still trying to bail her out. Everything was an accident." Seolhee sadly muttered.
•
Before entering her home, she first parked Jungkook's bike at the yard and quickly ran off to the hill where she remembered Jungkook first saw her. She remembered when Jungkook told her how mysterious she was, throwing rocks at the sea some time in the midnight. Seolhee remembered almost everything they had together that it didn't seem like he didn't die the year before.
Seolhee sat on the very top of the hill as the scent of nostalgia filled her nostrils. The sun started to set slowly, giving her a perfect view of the sun submerging down the sea in front of her. She slowly closed her eyes and even if she knew that she wouldn't see Jungkook's beside her when she opens them, she still hoped something like that would happen at the moment.
It was after sunset when Jungkook had joined Seolhee to shout out her feelings to the sea, because the sea keeps secrets a lot better than people.
The way his eyes shined in the slight, the way the world stopped at his laugh, the way he beamed with his adorable smile, and the warmth of his soft hands- all things were stuck in Seolhee's head. She wished that at some point in life, she could forget that he was gone somehow.
Bringing a pen with her, she then wrote on a rock the way she used to.
Dear Jungkook,
This is your kouhai who misses her senpai, you idiot. I dont care about the cringe, I hope we meet again.
- Seolhee
She wrote these words on the rock and threw it to the sea as far as she could. The small rock made a small riple form on the quiet sea, and it made Seolhee feel calm inside. It felt as if the burden in her heart had lifted, and she became happy. Yumi was right, there's still so much to live for.
Because she knew she had No One beside her, who just happened to be Jeon Jungkook, a special someone who had captured her heart and refused to give it back.
The End.

And also, the biggest thanks to chimcelle FOR BEING THE BEST HOE EVER and gave me the story idea! Without this idea coming from her brain, I wouldn't be able to explore new themes in writing and think outside the box. Thank you so much, Icelle, and you all who read this!
