fancy pt. 1
Couples spun around the vast dance floor in circles, clinging tightly to each other with loving looks on their faces. Hee-yong stood alone by the buffet table. All of the boys, including her brother, had been asked to dance by some random, beautiful girls and Hee-yong couldn't help but feel envious and lonely. She had thought she looked great in her beautiful dress, with her hair and makeup done to perfection, so she couldn't help but wonder why no one had asked her to dance. Hee-yong shook her head at her own stupidity.
"I don't need to dance with anyone," she said and sat her drink down on the table. She glided into the crowd of dancing bodies and began dancing on her own. Her hands wrapped around herself as she gracefully stepped rhythmically to the music. She looked peaceful and beautiful, even though she was alone, she didn't look awkward. Jimin and Namjoon's eyes were glued to Hee-yong, despite the fact that they were dancing with someone else.
"Y-you're very handsome," the girl who had asked Namjoon to dance stammered as Namjoon swiftly moved them around the floor. Namjoon smiled and showed off his dimples.
"And you are beautiful," he complimented the girl. It wasn't a lie, the girl was very attractive. She had shoulder length auburn hair and deep brown eyes. Her body was clad in a flowy red dress that accentuated her body shape nicely. But for some reason, Namjoon kept comparing the girl to Hee-yong. He wondered what it would be like to hold her as close as he was holding this stranger. How it would feel to press their bodies together and let the music determine their movements. When the song ended, Hee-yong moved back toward the buffet table, and Namjoon excused himself from the stranger. He strode across the room toward the youngest Kim sibling, determined to have her dance with him. Before he reached her, though, another man had stepped up and took his place. The man took Hee-yong's hand in his own and placed a gentle kiss to it as he bowed to her. Hee-yong giggled at the action, a slight blush creeping onto her cheeks. Namjoon's stomach coiled up in disappointment and jealousy as he watched Hee-yong chat with the stranger.
"Would you like to dance with me?" The stranger asked. Hee-yong bit her lip in thought, suddenly. At this point, she had accepted the fact that she had some sort of feelings toward Namjoon again. Her drunken self's actions had proved as much, anyway. But Namjoon had went off and danced with someone else, even though he knew about their kiss. He wasn't even drunk that night. The thought saddened Hee-yong but she couldn't find it in herself to dance with another man after she'd just shared an intimate moment with one.
"I'm sorry, I have someone," Hee-yong said, gently rejecting the man. He smiled at Hee-yong and said,
"Would it happen to be the gentleman who is eyeballing us right now?"
Hee-yong's eyes glanced around the room and her eyes met with Jimin's. Jimin quickly looked away and tried to play it off by spinning his dance partner outward and pulling her back in. Hee-yong felt a small knot of sadness appear in her belly. Jimin was so stupid, she thought.
"Well, miss. It seems as if he is with someone else right now anyway. Would you care to at least make him jealous?" The man asked and extended his hand. Hee-yong looked at the man and bit her lip before finally, she nodded. She needed to send a message to Jimin. 'Youre the one who dumped me, asshole. Stop acting sad now that I'm moving on!'
Hee-yong's hand was taken into the man's hand as he led her back onto the dance floor.
"My name is Han, by the way," he said. Hee-yong smiled at the man and placed her arms around his neck.
"Well, Han, I'm Hee-yong and I hope you dance as good as you look," she said. Han grinned at the girl and placed his hands respectfully on her waist.
"Lucky for you, I don't do anything better than I dance," he said. Hee-yong giggled and allowed the man to gracefully moved her around the floor. Jimin watched the couple with his heart aching. He really messed up. Tears began to sting the backs of his eyes, threatening to spill over but he did his best to contain them.
"Are you okay?" Jennie, his dance partner asked with worry. Jimin glanced down at her for a split second before his eyes found Hee-yong again.
She was laughing and smiling so much as she danced with the stranger. The sight set Jimin's heart on fire in the worst way possible.
"No, I'm not," he said quietly. He bit his lip and allowed one single tear to slip from his eyes.
"I guess you look happier," he said quietly, as if talking to Hee-yong. Memories of him and Hee-yong flashed through Jimin's mind. The day Hee-yong had made him heart shaped pancakes for his birthday. The time Jimin had sprained his ankle and Hee-yong babied him until his ankle healed. The day they had their very first kiss together in the rain like a couple straight from the movies.
Jennie's eyes followed Jimin's gaze and landed on Hee-yong. Her breath caught in her throat.
"Wow, she's beautiful," Jennie said. She was a bit saddened by the fact that Jimin's attention wasn't on her, she had taken a genuine interest in the boy, but she could understand his pain as tears glistened in his eyes.
"Why don't you go to her?" Jennie asked. Jimin's eyes finally settled on her as he processed her question.
"I- can't," Jimin said sadly. Jennie shook her head defiantly.
"Why not? The only thing holding you back is yourself," she said. Jimin laughed humorlessly.
"I hurt her. A lot. And now she's finally happier, I can't ruin it again," he said. Jennie sighed at the boy's words and said,
"You boys are all the same. Have you ever thought that maybe she wants you to come to her?" Jimin's eyes widened at her words. He wondered if Hee-yong could possibly want him to come to her. He doubted it after the things he'd done but his poor heart still wished. He shook his head, though. He'd already made up his mind that he wouldn't bother Hee-yong. He would be waiting for her, if she wanted him again, she would come to him. He hoped.
"Hello, everyone!" A sweet voice echoed across the room.
