2 9 Not All Mortals Are Bad
It had been two weeks since Lict had been asleep. Vierne got up by herself, prepared her own food, cleaned the house, made her bed and did all the laundry herself. It was tough without him. She missed him every day from the moment she woke up till she went to bed. Aleksei visited often to have a look at his condition.
"It isn't getting any better," He said, "And this might be the best time to kill him without making him go through the pain."
"No, I won't let you do that." Vierne said, "This is my star spirit so I decide his fate, not you." He had nothing to say in his defence. He couldn't kill him without her approval since she was his master.
"Today, we will talk about the three different forms of magic," Akagi wrote on the board as the day's classes began, "There are three forms—Vyzov forma Odin, Vyzov forma dva, Vyzov forma tri." He scribbled on the board. Akagi had messy handwriting and hence it was a challenge for the students to understand what he was trying to write.
"I can't understand shit," Slavik whispered under his breath.
"Vyzov forma Odin, it is the first form of your spell. The one that everyone can use in which you give a gift to your star spirit after the pact is formed and they fight their enemy using that gift. You as a demigod can transfer your powers to your star spirit,"
Slavik yawned. Akagi threw a glass of water at him and continued with the class while Slavik cleaned himself, "Now, we talk of the second form or Vyzov forma dva. It is a form that about 50% of demigods use. In this form, the star spirit itself becomes a gift and the demigod fights with that gift."
"I'm stuck at Vyzov forma Odin!" Slavik groaned.
"That is because you sleep during your class."
"What if I never reach the second form?"
"I give zero fucks. Moving on, Vyzov forma tri—This is a form that only 10% of demigods use. In this, the star spirit goes inside the demigods and the demigod fights the enemy with both their Sila and the Magixiya of their star spirit. "
Everyone was noting down as Akagi spoke.
"Any questions?"
"Is there any fourth form?" Slavik asked.
"No, lucky for you, there are only three."
"How can you be so sure?"
"That's what the theory says. It is possible that maybe someone somewhere discovered the fourth form and is practising it."
"I will be that someone!" Slavik shouted.
"Please focus on your studies. I'm just passing you because I don't want to see your face next year but now your ass is getting fatter and heavier and I can't pass you anymore! Study! Study demigoddammit!" Akagi shouted.
"Yes, Uchitel..." Slavik was intimidated. He felt like crying but held it in, 'Don't cry.' He told himself.
Vierne took notes diligently with a book on her head. Akagi looked at her, "What are you doing? Poise?"
"You know about it, Lord Akagi?" She asked, completely ignoring the fact that he had graduated from the same high school three years back, "I just wanted to practice."
"As long as you don't disturb the class," He took the marker and turned back, "So, what was I saying?"
After the class was over, Vierne walked out of the classroom and went towards her locker. She met Dasha on her way, "Hello Vierne," She snatched her notes from her, "What is this? Magic theory?" They laughed, "What are you—A witch?"
"Give it back, Dasha. That thing is too complicated for your brain." Vierne glared at her and Dasha tore the notebook before her eyes.
"Here, now you have it back." She passed the pieces to Vierne and left with her girls, laughing and giggling.
She went to Galkin's locker, "Can I have your notes?" She asked.
"Sure, what happened to yours though?"
"A dog ate it."
"I see. You have a pet dog—You never told me. What's his name?"
"It's a stray bitch—Slutty as hell."
"Excuse me?"
The next was Ms Sophie's class. She looked as elegant as always, dressed up in a pencil skirt and a frilly, blue top with a black, French hat over her head. Everyone was ready with their dance shoes for the Russian dance. They had a combined class with human students that day.
"Russian dance forms require stamina and well-toned leg muscles." Ms Sophie said, "You'll mostly be supporting your body on your knees so practice exercises that make your glutes and hinges strong. Today, we'll practice Igor Moiseyev's ballet—'Summer'. We have been learning it for quite a while now so I hope you can perform at least the first half of the ballet. Choose your partners."
Everyone chose their partners. Vierne looked around to find someone who was alone like her but everyone had partners.
"Maks, bro, I'm going to find a girl to dance with. You chose some partner too." Aleksei walked away towards the human girls. Maks looked at Dasha who was wearing her shoes. He went towards her,
"Would you be my partner, lady?" Maks got on his knees and pleaded to Dasha. She blushed as she looked at him, "Oh my God, yes!" She agreed immediately.
"Talk about simps," Galkin said.
"That was honestly so pointless," Vierne added.
"'It was beautiful," Slavik wiped his tears with his handkerchief.
"What the fuck—Bruh."
Vierne couldn't find a partner in the end and stood aside while others took their position. Soon, Grigory entered the class.
"I'm late! Pardon," He apologized to Ms Sophie and ran towards Dasha who already stood with Maks.
"Dasha! You said you'd dance with me."
"Sorry Grigory, you're late. It's first come first serve." Dasha said. Grigory held his head down and then looked at Vierne. He smiled and walked towards her, "Vierne, would you be my partner?" He asked.
Vierne nodded.
"Alright, quickly take your positions!" Ms Sophie started the music and everyone started the dance. The summer ballet started at a slow pace but slowly gained tempo and turned more and more complex. Vierne could dance in the first quarter of the routine. But as the second quarter started, she began forgetting what to do. She looked at others and managed to follow up. "Vierne," Grigory whispered, "The other side." He corrected her.
Her face turned red from embarrassment.
"This is trickier than a waltz." She murmured.
"You know how to dance the waltz?" Grigory heard her.
"Well duh! I'm an earl—Nothing." She thought she should keep her lineage as a secret.
"You're an earl?" She made an ugly expression,
"I'm a Grand Duke." He smiled.
"What—Really?"
"Yes? Everyone at Escola HS is from nobility or royalty. Don't tell me you didn't know that?"
"No?"
'Great, now I don't even feel special anymore. And he's got a higher status above that! Should I treat him with more respect? Respect? Heck, I barely even speak before him. Mortal!' Vierne thought.
After the class was over, Ms Sophie asked everyone to leave except Vierne. She came to Vierne.
"You are improving, Vierne. I like that you're working on yourself. Most people don't pay much attention to my class since they feel it's something not required. But I'm glad I've got one good student after so many years. And I am telling you that you'll be grateful for learning all this as long as you live."
Vierne was happy that one of her favourite teachers complimented her. The next class was free. She was free for the next two hours. So, she decided to spend some time at the library. She went to the third floor's library which was filled with books on magic. It was her dream to read all the books there. Magic was nice to study. By then, the librarian had known her well enough. She was an elf, living in the library in her human form.
Vierne greeted her and walked to one of the shelves in the corner. She looked around and found the book on curses. She stretched her arm to reach the book on the topmost rack but couldn't reach it. Suddenly, she saw hands pull that book out and she turned back. It was Grigory.
"Grigory!" She whispered, "You're not supposed to be here—"
"That's alright." He was wearing a pair of blue jeans which slightly resembled the uniform of special students.
"If someone catches you, you're going to be punished, " Vierne said as he passed her book to her.
"I am never caught."
"You do this often?"
"Yep. I sneak around the third floor quite often." They sat at the table behind the shelves so that the librarian won't see them, "I've heard of many mysteries around here. Like how the third floor has magical beings."
Vierne snickered, "That's stupid. You believe in magic?" She opened the book.
"I do. Laugh all you want—I don't care. I believe that magic exists." Vierne looked at him,
"How can you believe in something that you haven't seen?"
"Humans aren't the epitome of reality. We only believe in what we see, but I believe in what I feel. And my heart tells me that magic is real and wild and free and just beautiful to witness."
Vierne looked into his eyes. They were sparkling, "That's why," He said, "I come here whenever I can in the hopes that maybe I find someone that nobody else has."
"And what if you do find them?"
"I would protect them. Because something as pure as magic should never perish in the hands of someone undeserving."
"Don't you have any dreams—Like meeting your soulmate or as such?"
"What—No. Dreams should be something that is hard to find and impossible to forget."
She closed the book and he looked at her, "Vierne?"
"I believe in magic too." She smiled.
"Ooh, then I'll suggest a very good book on that—Read it, it has a good plot."
"Yes, of course." She smiled.
'Well, not all mortals might be bad.'
