Chapter 7

"Miss Denver?" Charlie snapped her eyes towards Morpheus, who was leaning on the door frame between the lounge and the dining room. She smiled at him, but he didn't return it, so she stopped immediately. It seemed like the talk with his father didn't go that well, she thought.

"My father would like to speak to you. Don't worry, he just wants to see what he's dealing with." Morpheus felt the need to explain, as he looked down at the woman. She stood up and nodded at him, letting Morpheus lead the way back to Hypnos' office. He knocked and opened the door afterwards. Charlie nodded at Morpheus as some sort of grateful gesture for opening the door for her as she stepped inside the office.

Hypnos was already seated behind his desk again, the scowl and disappointment that were showing on his face just a few minutes ago, were replaced by the usual polite grin. He motioned for Charlie to sit down in front of him on the couch and she did.

"Miss Denver, do you have any idea why my son brought you here?" Hypnos started off.
"Yes, because of my sleepwalking. And my nightmares, sir." She answered him. She didn't know where this conversation was going, but she knew it was going to take a while as she leaned back on the couch and let her body relax. Was nobody except her tired? It was way past midnight, she thought.

"Well, can you tell me something about your nightmares?" Hypnos asked, making Charlie shake her head. Hypnos raised an eyebrow at her answer, obviously wanting to hear the reason.
"I never remember them in the morning. I used to wake up in the middle of the night, screaming. At those moments, I knew I had nightmares, but I never really remember them. Only some fractions of it." She shrugged.

"You used to? You don't have them anymore?" Hypnos asked her.
"No. After Morpheus took them away." Charlie answered with a calm voice. Hypnos on the other hand, felt another rise of anger. Morpheus has not told him that Miss Denver was aware of his skills. It was a rule that he could never tell anybody about their business.

"Huh." Hypnos sighed. He thought his son had used force on her in order to bring her here, but was obviously wrong.
"And you have dreams now?" Hypnos asked, making Charlie nod.

"What do you dream about?" He was curious. He had never seen a case like her. By the way she was answering, she seemed mature and smart, so this was probably no mental health issue. He was no doctor, but by being the God of sleep, he didn't have to.

Charlie hesitated. Did she have to answer that? It was already weird to her that she dreamed about Morpheus and it would be awkward if he knew. But telling his father was even more awkward and so she just shrugged. It couldn't have been helpful anyways, she thought.

"I don't know." She lied and Hypnos nodded slowly. He didn't know if he wanted to believe her, but if she didn't want to tell him, she didn't have to. Dreams were something intimate and it wasn't really any of his business. Well, it was, but to her it probably wasn't.

"Okay, well it's not that important. What I need to know from you, is whether you think your sleepwalking issue was something you could cure yourself or not? Maybe with training or-"

"Yes, I'm pretty sure Doctor Ronald has another type of treatment for that problem. I'm not worried about that. It's just weird, because your son told me how this never happened before and that kind of got me worried, sir. I have tried so much to get rid of my nightmares. But nothing helped. Everybody told me it would eventually go away in a few years." She chuckled humourlessly.

"I think it has been over ten years until your son came and helped me. I was so happy, I can't even tell you. My whole attitude changed. I had more motivation and energy to go to work. The only weird thing right now, is the fact that my sleepwalking started the night after. I found myself dreaming about Morpheus standing on the fire ladder and the moment I open my eyes, I see Morpheus standing on the fire ladder- in real life." She told him and then widened her eyes when she realized she was ranting. But Hypnos had this effect on people. They told them everything about themselves as soon as he introduced himself. Came with his position. And maybe, he used his Might as well.

"I'm sorry." Charlie quickly apologized. How embarrassing, she thought. Now she told him about her dream...
"No, the more you tell me, the better I can help you." Hypnos dismissed. He had a deep frown on his forehead as he repeated her story in his head. She wasn't supposed to dream about Morpheus. How could she? His son told him, after coming back from Miss Denver's house the other night that he had erased her memory. So how could she remember him in her dreams?

"Have you had a dream about my son the night after you two met for the first time?" As soon as Hypnos saw the blush on her face, he knew the answer. And from the looks of it, Charlie noticed.
"You can't tell him, please. Ugh, this is so embarrassing." She groaned as she tried to cover her warm cheeks, making Hypnos chuckle.

"I don't think you had any influence in your dreams about him, so there is no need to be embarrassed. And as long as it's not a relevant information, I won't tell him, don't worry." Hypnos assured her, just so she stopped feeling awkward around him. He knew this was an important part, so he was sure to tell his son about this.

"Thank you." Charlie sighed. She looked at the man in front of her and realized that Morpheus didn't come after his father at all. His personality was way different from Morpheus'. The man in front of her looked like he made a lot of jokes. Charlie felt his good energies radiating onto her, making her feel warm and cozy.

But Morpheus was everything his father wasn't. So she thought at least. He never smiled or chuckled. Never has he done that around her and even though she only met him today- as far as she remembered- , she knew he wasn't much of a talker either. He kept more to himself and gave her this cold feeling, which made a shiver run down her spine. She didn't know a lot about either of them, but one thing was sure: They were both very attractive men.

"No problem. Is there anything more you'd like to mention? Something you think might help us?" Hypnos asked her, fearing the conclusion he just made. Charlie thought about his question for a few seconds, but shook her head. There was nothing else, she thought.

"Alright. I thank you for your trust in us, Miss Denver. I'm afraid I'll have to let you wait again while I talk to my son about this. Why don't you sleep here for the night?" Hypnos glanced at his wristwatch.

"Well, sleep here for three hours until the sun is rising." Hypnos scratched his neck uncomfortably.
"Oh, no really. There is no need." Charlie declined. Sleep here? That was just too odd. She was just going to wait until they came up with a solution. But he already made his way towards the door.

"I insist. This is going to take long. Ah, son. Tell Darian to prepare a room for Miss Denver. She will rest until we finish our discussion." Hypnos didn't seem to care about her response right now as he was busy keeping his cool. Morpheus didn't even look at her, before he nodded and did as he was told. Charlie gaped at him, but before she could open her mouth again, Hypnos' gaze shifted towards her again.

"I know this must be peculiar to you, seeing we just met. But I think you need some sleep, before you drive home. No offense, but you look horrible, Miss. Get some rest." His words made her blush again. She was tired and she probably did look like that. So she sighed and nodded. Darian came around after preparing a room for her to sleep. She took one last glance at Morpheus and Hypnos, before following the butler upstairs.

Charlie let herself fall into the soft king sized bed and immediately fell asleep. She didn't even have a chance to think about her current situation as she literally fell asleep as soon as she hit the sheets. What she didn't know, was that those beds were specifically made with Hypnos' help, meaning he used his infamous Might during the production process of this mattress. It was only one example of the many things Hypnos and Morpheus helped people with.

Hours passed until she sat up on the bed. Her body was stiff and her eyes were still closed. She had the same exact dream like the previous nights: Morpheus.

It was just Morpheus as he stood in front of her, his beautiful aura once again represented with colorful fog that seemed to surround the both of them.

One leg followed the other as they stepped out of the bed and made Charlie stand next to it. Normally, it was impossible for somebody to resist Hypnos' mattresses. The famous trance called Hypnosis didn't have his name in it for nothing.

So imagine the surprise on Hypnos' face as his office door opened, making Morpheus and him stop talking to look at the intruder.
"Miss Denver? What are you doing here?" He asked, before he noticed her closed eyes. No way, he thought. Well, there goes that idea of his. Hypnos was hoping, she'd stay in her bed and their problems would be solved if he just gave her one of his mattresses.

His eyes followed her as she slowly strode towards Morpheus, who was just as confused as he stood next to his father. But his confusion soon turned into annoyance as Charlie once again threw her arms around his neck, just like she did a few hours ago. He groaned and opened his mouth to call out for her, but his father stopped him.

"No, let her. I want to see what she does next." Hypnos was fascinated, still confused, but fascinated. He was now a hundred percent sure she was the girl who his son had cursed many years ago. Morpheus nodded and looked down at her as she just kept a tight grip on him.

Minutes passed and he grew impatient. He looked at his father to silently ask him if he could wake her up now, but Hypnos shot him a look. So they kept waiting. Until eventually something happened. Morpheus' eyes widened in fear and Hypnos' jaw hit the ground as they both saw what was happening to the usual cute and innocent woman.

Her eyes opened in lightning speed and she looked at Morpheus. Well, her face was directed towards Morpheus, but they couldn't tell if she was looking at him, since her pupils were gone. Literally all they saw was black. Her eyes were black like coal. Her body was stiff and cold.

Morpheus ignored his father's protests as he started to pull her hands away from him. She held on tightly, but as soon as he managed to get some distance between them, her eyes fluttered closed and her legs gave in. Her body fell to the ground with a loud thud.

Hypnos and his son both cringed at the sound. He was the first one to react and try to shake her awake, while Morpheus was still shocked at what just happened. Had he done that to her? Charlie's eyes opened upon feeling disturbed in her sleep. She groaned and rubbed a sore spot on her arm. How did she get that?

"W- What happened?" She asked, noticing she wasn't in that comfy bed anymore. Why was she here? One look at the two men's faces in front of her and she knew she had been sleepwalking again. A groan escaped her lips as no one talked for a while. So embarrassing, she thought.

"What did you dream about?" Morpheus now wanted to know. He did know that when people dream about food or something they desire, they sleepwalk in order to get it. His father told him, she had dreamed about Morpheus before, but he knew she didn't desire him. He erased her memory after all.

"I don't know." Charlie was a bad liar, she knew that. And by the smirk on Hypnos' face, he knew too. She felt a blush creep up her cheeks as she avoided looking into Morpheus' eyes. He nodded, even though he knew she was lying. If she didn't trust him with her dreams then so be it. He was only the person who tried to help her, he thought sarcastically.

"Miss Denver, we came to a solution." Hypnos' words cut through the uncomfortable silence. They did come to a conclusion hours ago. It didn't take him long to explain his son what he had to do in order to help her. The two men were only working on a strategy on how to convince her.

"You did? What is it?" Charlie already forgot her embarrassment after his words caught her attention. Morpheus and Hypnos shared a look, before Hypnos nodded at his son, wanting him to do the talking. As much as Morpheus hated to explain stuff, his father wanted him to do it, since he would be spending a lot of time with the woman, if everything would go as planned.

"We came to the conclusion that there is only one long-term efficient way of curing you: We will have to pay a visit to the Uvalia's Senate and hope they can arrange something. My father strongly believes that they will let me travel back in time and hold myself up from- well, cursing you." He said it so carelessly, making Charlie narrow her eyes at his sudden attitude. Wait, did he say cursing her?

"Cursing me?" Charlie asked with a deep and confused frown.
"Yes, uh-" Morpheus looked at his father, silently pleading him to take over. And so he did.

"You might want to sit down for this one." Hypnos urged her to take a seat across his office table.
