Chapter 23
Charlie looked at Morpheus with a very apologetic facial expression once again. Hoping he would now be a little less angry, she opened her mouth.
"Don't." Morpheus immediately scowled at her, pressing the bag of ice cubes harder against his cheek.
They were still on the plane and from what Charlie understood, she was being a disturbance to the public. Morpheus had quickly explained that she was under a spell or something similar. That's when her memories came back and they did not make her feel good.
When she woke up from whatever trance she was in, her eyes blinked open just in time to see some strange old man hitting Morpheus in the face. She had felt someone push her aggressively and like Morpheus, her vision became clearer with each push. Apparently the man was being too rough and Morpheus pushed him away in return. Then a fight erupted and the flight attendant came in between the two. After breaking them apart, she gave them a warning. One more wrong move and she was going to throw them into economy class.
"You can't be mad at me, I was under a spell." Charlie sighed.
"I know. But I do not desire to talk to you right now." Was his response. Fair enough, Charlie accepted and leaned back in her seat. She could only imagine how uncomfortable the situation was for Morpheus. To her, he looked like he was enjoying it too. Well, to her drugged self that was. There were so many expressions to describe what state she was in, yet they had no idea what exactly it was called.
"I'm really sorry." Charlie said again, which made Morpheus roll his eyes. If the situation would've been reversed and she was the one getting molested by Morpheus, she'd be traumatized. And she feared Morpheus felt so too. In a way, she was still terrified. Whatever caused them to act like love-sick fools on the plane, she did not want to have it again. So, following Morpheus, she glanced at the tea in front of her and left it alone.
Anything they touched and consumed on this plane was suspicious now. But they still had about eight hours on the plane and not drinking would be hard. Eating was going to be interesting too. But Charlie wasn't even hungry. She couldn't really feel anything but embarrassment, fear, shame and anger. Embarrassed, because of what happened. Afraid, because of what was going to happen. Ashamed, because Morpheus couldn't even look at her anymore. And angry, because she couldn't shake off the thought of Hypnos having something to do with it.
After all, Charlie knew he had connections and she did know a few things about Greek mythology. Even though Morpheus denied that Uvalions and Greek Gods were pretty much the exact same, she knew a lot of things that were happening in her life right now, really resembled a badly written myth.
Morpheus closed his eyes again, trying to reach the same stage of being as unbothered as before Miss Denver woke him up. But no matter what he thought about in order to fall back asleep, he could not for the life of him prevent his thoughts from steering back to what had happened merely a few minutes ago. Maybe that was because he really didn't mind the way she clinged to him. He didn't mind her warm lips caressing his neck. And he also didn't mind the amount of butterflies that erupted in his stomach when she touched him rather inappropriately.
And for that simple fact, he was very upset with himself. He was disappointed and ashamed. She had not even wanted to seduce him like that, so obviously in his mind, his reactions were uncalled for. She did not like him like that and telling himself that now, made him just as mad.
But why was he mad? He was not supposed to like her either. He was not supposed to feel the way he felt when she was that close to him. When she didn't annoy him for once. With her loving touch and soft kisses...
Morpheus shook his head again and heard Miss Denver immediately sigh. She was probably thinking his head shake was because he wanted to get the memories of the two together out of his mind. But in reality, he did not want to. Ugh, what was wrong with him. Morpheus clenched his fists and looked around.
"Where are you going?" Came Miss Denver's soft voice as soon as he stood up. He heard panic too and almost sat back down to comfort her.
"To the toilet." Morpheus responded, not looking at her still. He was already walking towards the front of the plane. One flight attendant nodded their head at him with a kind smile. He awkwardly smiled back as he walked past her and got into the small cabin.
"Chaos, Tagnus and Zystus." He hissed as soon as he was alone. He was losing his mind out there. Morpheus' two hands came up to rub his face rather aggressively. He took a few calming breaths as he looked at the small mirror above the even smaller sink. He was red in the face. His hair was disheveled and his eyes looked tired.
There was a knock on the door.
"One second!" Morpheus said over his shoulder as he turned the faucet on and collected cold water in his hands before splashing it in his face. When he grabbed for a tissue, another knock came.
"I said, give me a second!" He ripped the door open after getting rid of the tissue. His angered facial expression immediately changed when he saw who stood in front of him.
"Miss Denver." He gulped, suspicious as to why she was here. Did she drink another sip of that tea and wanted to take matters into the little cabin?
"We should talk." With that, Charlie took a step inside the cabin, sort of forcing Morpheus to take a step back. She turned around and closed the door, locked it a second later. When her troubled face turned back to look at Morpheus, he once again was having a hard time holding eye contact. So he looked at his shoes.
"See that, Morpheus. I cannot stand having you hate me for what happened. You can't even look me in the eyes anymore. And I totally understand it. I wouldn't even be able to look myself in the eyes if I were in your position. But I just want you to know that what happened was entirely the fault of whatever drug or spell or whatever I was influenced with. I would never do that to you. I know you're very uncomfortable right now too and I'm sorry. But I just- I can't let that stay between us for the rest of the trip. You hate me and-"
"I don't hate you." Morpheus sighed, his hand came up to sweep through his hair again as he looked back up at her.
"I really don't, Miss Denver." He said in a troubled voice, which did not necessarily comfort her.
"But you will admit that you're uncomfortable around me?" She asked, her mouth forming into a pout, which made Morpheus gulp again. Helios, why was she so attractive?
"Morpheus?" Charlie lifted her right eyebrow in question when he didn't answer again. With another deep breath, he shook his head.
"You're not?" She was surprised. In any other situation, Morpheus would've been amused by her facial expression. But this was still tense.
"But I touched you inappropriately." She almost gaped at him. Morpheus shrugged.
"And I kissed you." Charlie continued. He shrugged again, his teeth started to nibble on his bottom lip.
"A-and I wanted to do more than that." Charlie gulped upon seeing the way he was looking at her. Suddenly, her heartbeat quickened and her face felt very warm. Why was it so hot in here?
"I know." His voice was so smooth and deep and just so hot to Charlie again. She didn't know what to say after that as a sudden realization hit her.
He really didn't mind it. In fact, he now appeared to have kind if liked it? Why was she so relieved? And why did she suddenly want to do it all over again? Oh God, did she drink anything before coming here? No, she didn't. Obviously, she was able to resist her thoughts. But the way he looked at her in that moment, she probably didn't even have to.
"Miss Denver." Morpheus couldn't help but say. He knew he wanted to say something, but looking into her big eyes, he suddenly forgot.
"Yes, Morpheus?" Came her response. His fists clenched by his sides. He really had to hold himself back from pulling her head towards him and continuing what they started outside. But he couldn't. He knew he couldn't. And somehow, even when she was this close to him, even when her eyes did something to him, his control was stronger. His duty as an Uvalion was stronger. His will was stronger.
"We should forget about what happened. I know that whatever took place between us was the outcome of some sort of spell. We have to be very cautious from now on and make sure it doesn't happen again." He said with the strictest and coldest tone of voice he could muster. Charlie immediately knew he was back to his old self. And whilst that was relieving, it was also a shame. She felt like she had seen another part of Morpheus before he came back to his senses. And for some reason, Charlie really liked that version of him.
"I agree. And I'm glad you don't hate me for that. We should really watch out more." She told him.
"I only wonder who would've done that to us? I don't remember telling anyone about this trip. Except my father of course. And Darian. But they would never do that." Morpheus looked away from her again. This time she knew it was because he was thinking very hard. Now, Charlie was a hundred percent sure it was Hypnos' doing that caused her to act like love-sick fool.
"I wonder too." She looked away from him when his eyes tried to catch hers.
"I think we should go back now." She changed the topic, making Morpheus nod with a grim face.
So the two of them turned around and left to get back to their seats. Both of them hoped to just make it to Silverthorne without any more spells and curses, but neither of them knew just how much their little episode had already ignited a fire between them. One that was only deniable for a limited amount of time.
