Chapter 19
"And now?" Charlie yawned as she laid in her bed, looking up at Morpheus like a scared little girl. Her big eyes did something to him and he shook his head away from that.
"Well, like last time." Morpheus cleared his throat. Why was this so weird now? He did that all the time.
"You take my hand." And why was his heart pounding this fast when she took his hand? Since when was her hand so smooth and small?
"Close your eyes." He ordered and watched her obey. After taking a deep breath, Morpheus closed his own and whispered the words he needed to say aloud in order to help her fall asleep.
"I shall take all your nightmares, let them ruin me. In exchange, I give you my dreams, the best they can be. Let them lead you through a dark night and wake you when the time is right."
He opened his eyes again and waited. His eyes roamed over her face, taking in every flaw she had. But to him, they weren't flaws. She looked so pretty, he thought. But a frown immediately overcame his face. He wasn't supposed to think like that. She was his client and he was already spending more time with her than he was allowed to. He had been acting foolish the past few hours. Always secretly looking at her and letting her do whatever. If he started liking her now-
"No." Morpheus whispered and stood up from his seat on her bed. Normally, he would be gone by now after having helped a client. But obviously, he couldn't do that. The risk of having her hurt herself again would be too big. With a sigh, Morpheus made his way to her kitchen- two big steps away from her bed. How she could live in such a tiny place, he had no idea. But to each their own, he thought as he took hold of the medicine Miss Denver received from the doctor.
Before they discharged her, they gave her an ointment for the wounds on her feet. But Morpheus knew she didn't need them, so he threw them away. Upon hearing the object hit the bottom of her trash can rather loudly, he quickly glanced at Miss Denver. Nothing. He sighed in relief. Then his stomach started growling and he was once again reminded of the fact that he had not had anything to eat yet. Except for that one cookie from Miss Denver's mother.
Would it be rude if he looked through her refrigerator? And ate something out of said refrigerator? Yes, he rolled his eyes. Unless- he thought to himself as his eyes lit up- unless he took the food as a sort of payment for what he was doing for her. But then again, it was his duty and the only honorable thing to help her. On top of that, he was the reason why she was in this position. Ugh, Morpheus crossed his arms over his chest.
He looked back at the bed with Miss Denver's sleeping form on it. He couldn't wake her for something this silly, could he? No, he couldn't. Morpheus looked away again. But what he could do was make Darian come to Miss Denver's place with a pizza. He would have to wait a little while, but he could manage.
"Yes." Morpheus took out his pen from his pocket as well as a golden card. He sat down at the kitchen counter and started writing.
Darian, bring pizza with ham, bacon, mozarella, onions, green peppers and sheep cheese. And garlic oil on top. And bring brownies for dessert. And a Fanta. All to Miss Denver's property. And also the diary from the woman whose husband was sleepwalking.
With a smug smile, Morpheus stood up with the letter in hand and opened the window to the fire ladder. He threw out the card and then waited. Since he was going to spend quite some time in this apartment, Morpheus needed something to distract him from how slow the time was actually passing. It might not be a bad idea to reread the whole story about the woman with the sleepwalking husband. Maybe he had overread a few important parts the first time.
As he looked at the fire ladder in front of him, a small smile involuntarily fell upon his lips. He remembered the first time Miss Denver hugged him. Well, more like choked him. He was so startled. He really wondered why she was dreaming about him. Was it because of the curse entirely? Or maybe she liked him? No, he shook his head. He had erased her memory the night before. She couldn't have liked him. She definitely still didn't. And that was good, he assured himself with a sigh.
Morpheus wondered how long his pizza would be taking as his chin came to rest on his hand whilst he was leaning against the windowsill. He almost laughed out loud when he remembered that he almost ate that wrap from the hospital. Sometimes he forgot how convenient it was to have an Are. He ought to use him more often, despite what his father said about it. Obviously Morpheus didn't plan on calling Darian for every single little slight inconvenience. Because obviously, he didn't want or need to rely on anyone.
But when it came to food, Morpheus thought he should really call on him more often. He could write down any dish and Darian would make it for him. Now, the twenty-six year old actually remembered a time he had used Darian to do his homework and his father had scolded at him. But now that he was alone and his father was bothering him a lot lately, he didn't even feel bad about calling Darian for such stupid matter. Plus, he was really hungry and couldn't leave Miss Denver's side. Hence it wasn't really a stupid matter.
Another sigh passed his lips when he looked at his wrist watch. What was he going to do with Miss Denver? If she slept through the night now, he knew she was going to be alright with her own room in Silverthorne. He would just have to make sure he put her to sleep. The first time she sleepwalked was the night after he put her to sleep, the night she went to bed on her own. So apparently, he had found a temporary solution to her sleepwalking. But he was not even remotely relieved. The fear of not having her wake up again was too big.
There was a knock at the door and Morpheus closed the window to go and open the front door.
"About time." Morpheus commented when Darian's monotone face greeted him. It must've been around five minutes since he wrote the letter. Morpheus quickly took the pizza and the rest that was placed on top of it.
"Thank you. Now close the door and leave." He said over his shoulder and watched as the Are did as told.
"Yes." Finally, Morpheus had his food. The overwhelmingly yummy smell of the pizza immediately tickled his nostrils and he left no time opening the carton and getting a big, juicy slice. Good thing Darian sliced the pieces now. The first time Morpheus and his father ordered pizza, he hadn't pre-sliced it for them. That was annoying.
The first piece was gone within ten seconds and he already had the second one in his mouth when sudden movement from Miss Denver stopped his chewing. He sat up straight and watched her turn in her sleep. Once she was settled with her back to him, Morpheus continued chewing. Everything seemed to go well, he hoped that wouldn't change.
He was always good to me. Morpehus started reading as he opened the diary of the woman with the sleepwalking husband.
I was never part of the rich society and as soon as he asked for my hand, I knew I never would be. His family was even worse than mine. And if my Papa would have still been alive by the time Titus asked for my hand, he would have chopped all his fingers off and told him to try again. My Mama was not happy about it either. But I had to marry and without reason I could not say no to him. So I married Titus when he was twenty years older than me. I had just started my 17th year- older than my mother when she got married. But Titus did not seem to mind my age.
We immediately had two wonderful sons with the age difference of only nine months. They grew up like twins and left like twins two. Both too bright for a life on the farm. Titus was greatly disappointed to say the least. But when they left, I became mother of three more children. Two boys and one beautiful girl. This time my husband made sure at least two of them took care of the farm once he would pass. But with all of the possibilities in the cities, all of my children longed to leave. I could not blame them. I had wanted to marry Penelope off no later than 14. She was really looking forward to it.
But Titus was hoping to make the big catch with our daughter's future husband. He wanted her to bring our family the fortune he thought we deserved. His whole life he had been longing for wealth. But nothing ever came. Our daughter would have to carry that weight now.
So multiple suitors went in and out of the farm. Until one night, a handsome young knight stood in front of our door. He was drenched in blood and seemed to be wounded as well. We saw to his wounds and not three days later, he was on his feet again. He had found a liking in our Penelope and had asked for her hand.
I was ecstatic to say the least. My daughter would be fiance to a knight soon. But my husband was greedy. He wasn't getting any younger and his back was hindering him from working. He knew something had to be done, so he asked for money to pay for our daughter. He had planned on finding a help to carry on with the farm work. I was doing a lot of farm working too at that time and he had promised me I would never have to do it ever again that night.
The knight rode away with our daughter on his horse. I had never seen her since. He must've been a big deal in the city and my husband had gained much joy spreading the word about the knight's wife being his daughter. Officials have come to arrest him one night as they disliked his big mouth.
I was devastated and broken. I had no one and nothing. I was a lady alone at a farm and if anyone was to rob me, I had no one to defend me. My husband knew that too and so did the rest of the country. It started with the cows. One day I woke up and they were gone. Then the sheep, the chickens, the cats. They robbed us of everything.
Just when I thought it was all over, my husband came home. I was greatly surprised, because I had heard he was not to leave prison alive. But he was standing in front of me with a big smile. We had made love that night and he had assured me that we would soon have our animals back.
A few days passed and we had a small herd of cows again. It was starting to look really good. He came back with chickens one day and the next we had sheep again. I was suspicious, but I dared not say a word. He was my husband and I shall not ever doubt him.
But one night, he started saying really weird things in his sleep and woke me up. I tried to wake him, but he wouldn't. The next night, the same happened. It was yesterday. This is why I'm writing this diary. I have a feeling my husband had made a pact with the devil and is now losing his mind.

Morpheus finished his fifth piece as he turned to page two. With another sigh, he started reading.
I was pregnant again and couldn't be happier. When I told my husband...
He did not bloody care about her being pregnant for the nth time! Morpheus felt his patience slipping as well as his energy for some reason. With a yawn he took another piece of pizza. This was definitely going to be a long night.
A/N: Don't get too upset about me saying 'using Darian' and such. I just wanted to make that clear. He isn't human at all. He might look like an old man, but he's an Are- a species with the sole purpose to obey and be the right hand of an Uvalion.
