Dear Love

Dear Love,

From the moment humans are born, we need you. That's not an exaggeration, it's been proven that without love, a baby will die. Not only do we need you, but you are what we crave to attain, and the biggest motivator on earth. You are, in a sense, life itself. It makes sense too, why we want you so desperately, because you are the most unexpainably perfect feeling that exists.

The first time we feel you, it's with safety and happiness. Right after we're born, we feel our mothers love, our fathers love, love from our grand parents, aunts, and uncles. Contentment is one word you could use to describe the feeling. Up until we get older, you are like a rock. Steady, reliable, always there.

Why aren't you always like that? Why must we instead feel you in the most vulnerable, fragile ways? Why can't we stay in that safe bubble where you are perfect and you are forever?

The older we get, the more we come to the realization that you are not perfect, nor do you last forever. You are love, but you are also pain. You make peoples hearts ache, and you break people, then you put them back together again and the vicious circle starts again. Still, we need you. We know what happens when you disappear, or crash, or whatever it is that happens to you before everything goes wrong. You are still worth it.

The aftermath of a shattered heart is nothing compared to just an ounce of you.

On the other hand, there are times when you do not shatter, and although you feel fragile at first, you transform into something even more beautiful than you were before. It's fascinating. You turn into swarms of butterflies in tummy's, good morning texts, long walks in the forest, and sleepy smiles. You become bouquets of flowers, a favourite movie on a rainy day, inside jokes, and innocent kisses. You start to look like tiny shared glances, fingers interlacing, and blushes sweeping over cheeks. You become forever.

You have taught me that there is nothing beautiful without a little bit of pain, and nothing worth having if it doesn't hurt sometimes. You have taught me that the most delicate things can become strong.

So dear love, thank you.

Yours forever, Andrea.

And there we have it! My letter to love, inspired by the Collateral Beauty movie. You should go check out the original anthology on the Wattpad Romance profile. Theres a letter to love, like mine, a letter to time, and a letter to death.
