Dear Achiever

~~~~~~~~~ooo~~~~~~~~~
Poet's Note: I know I say ALL of my poems are super important to me but... I'm just going to say, "Dear Achiever" is really meaningful to me ;) Specifically, because it (like "Dear Dreamer") focuses a lot on dreams, goals, and our desire to achieve them. Sometimes these dreams just seem completely impossible, but as this poem will tell you, we just have to keep pressing on. Life is pointless without a purpose, so why not work towards our heart's wish? Each step forward is one less left to take, so we just have to take things one step at a time. And who knows what we can truly achieve! But one thing is for certain... we'll never know if we just give up.
Dear Achiever,
Have you traced your hand through the stars?
Seen how far the constellations reach;
How far apart they all are,
Can't even grab what you see.
Only two arms in expanse,
Not nearly strong enough to hold;
Only so much you can grasp,
Too many that you have to let go.
Supernovas, patterned blows,
So much loss every single day;
But how much more can you survive though,
Till there's nothing left to take.
Here in the void of all empty,
Floating mindless through time;
Can't even breathe as you're waiting,
For fatal descent from the sky.
So far you flew on a whim,
Risked it all on a dice roll;
Only to be paralyzed as flare hits,
Realize how naïve you were before.
Ignorance tickled your fancy,
Letting new pathways appear;
No resilience levels into mastery,
And the top step farther than you could fear.
Do you hide in hallucinations?
Buried under covers at night;
Dreaming till the nightmares awake you,
Jolting you back to daylight.
Aspirations patching like a child's artwork,
To cover day by day turning dull;
Shank of a knot wrapping tighter to bind you,
Only achieving can turn things around.
Discontent in scenery intaking,
Nothing ever seems enough;
'What ifs' and more 'if onlys',
To give life a glorious touch.
Every hope to stretch imagination,
Clenched longing, the tales grow more wild;
Drowned in dreams supporting all satisfaction,
With each disappointment broke and trampled.
More useless, fruitless, with each tick,
You can't sit patient forever;
If destiny's real, let it prove it,
Or why should you believe that you matter?
Words never seem to amount,
Yet they all claim just the same;
Uttered in moral intention,
But blatant hypocrisy's their game.
Cause are you sick in desperation?
Itching for fire to ignite;
But on your matches, doubt approved raining,
Don't they say the numbers don't lie?
Ideas tucked away overflowing,
From that red bowed box in the corner;
Can't contain, comprehend what you carry,
A piece of you over your heartbeat hovers.
But that beat's straining as you yearn,
All the implausible thought crossers;
Caught and lodged, so hard to return,
Can't pull the arrow of human desire for purpose.
Where we retreat inadvertently,
The safe place of a dreamcatcher;
Impossible to possible without probability,
We all dangle out on a string of prospection.
Young and old, we color bold,
Brave hearts not corresponding with action;
The outside world incites a sense to withhold,
Nothing ever as perfect as appearance's depiction.
Trends shift and we slide with them,
So much easier to just move on, give up;
Big picture too broad, minds bouncing over options,
There's no such thing as reigning in it all.
Now will you concede when the stakes rise?
Too fearful to chance a defeat;
What if you lost the one thing of which you're defined?
How would you excel and eventually succeed?
Just too much to sort through, absorb,
Life is full of tough choices;
Testing the values, morals of which you were sure,
Must all contain a drop of poison?
Want to wrap your arms tight and secure,
Hug and protect all that you hold dear;
If ambition didn't seem so unreal,
All achievements could have guidelines more clear.
Setting goals over a lifetime,
So long for a planned timetable;
Nature agile to the stiffness inside,
No guarantee of the foundation, strong, stable.
Swing one grip higher, steadily,
Slow but sure on the track;
Praying the rope won't snap, precariously,
Every piece would shatter at impact's amok crack.
Ground like your stars in the distance,
No leap forward or rewind;
Cause you're here now and this is it,
Your chance to make a mark on the skies.
Achiever, are you dwelling in history?
Mere dates and times scratched on a line;
Brush it off, right into the fire future's burning,
Past is past, just what you learn keep in sight.
The complex system, appearance of society,
Abstract rules, fit in a puzzle together;
So much to gain, but the prices ever rising,
Sailing balls, more than you could ever juggle.
If a map could plot the points to success,
You still never would even arrive;
Dangerous trek, how are you special from the rest?
Is it worth the risk of placing it all on the line?
But Achiever, each step's another behind,
Don't look down, just keep your eyes on the prize;
Not hopeless, just keep breathing, close your eyes,
Already so much farther than those who never even tried!
Run towards the light, inch by inch,
Feel its call stirring up in your heart;
Blending dreams and reality, have patience,
Bound in a harness, weaved in who you are.
Cause what you want may not be what you need,
But it's still important nonetheless;
Starts with yourself, breath and beat, flying free,
But out from that, a wide world of possible success!
Achiever, are you exhausted persevering?
But don't let all your effort be in vain;
Always on a tightrope, and there's a chance of it breaking,
But will you choose to lose when maybe you'd win the game!
You can't achieve anything doing nothing,
So many could attest into that;
Either rest in safety, with the cost of not living,
Or just let live and you may find the truth often missed.
No one's born with it all,
No matter what anyone claims;
Always stars in eyes, signs of a still hoping heart,
All born ready to lift off up and away.
Quivering turning, watching the dream crushers working,
One more flailing down to earth right beside you;
Suddenly so unsure, are you the next target for the bowstring?
But Achiever, the end goal is worth all the fight left in you.
Close your eyes, take a breath,
Step into your happiest place;
Picture a paradise, earthly heaven,
Then stand up tall, put on your determined face.
And with each strike, monster by your sword,
Remember what you're battling for;
For that little spark, to make your own happy home,
And you'll find the courage to slay the giants, watch them fall.
Life's just an obstacle course to hurdle,
But always keep one eye toward the horizon;
Gazing past this world and its turmoil,
Even if you don't believe it could happen.
Has your doubt chained you to the floor?
Achiever, why don't you believe in yourself?
We can't see it if you don't let it glow,
But I know that little tug you have felt.
I've said it before, but Achiever, I'll say it again,
Dreams can't come true if you never try;
Those fantasies, bring them out of night, from your head,
And in a slim moment, I know you'll see that I'm right!
Take a step, just one move,
And the gold at the finish comes closer;
Ever so brighter, smiling down upon you,
Beckoning you forward, and your heartbeat to faster.
The presence waiting at the mountain's peak,
Arms spread out wide to embrace;
Lifelong wishes coming true abundantly,
And all because you fought to complete the race.
Be confident, patient, resilient,
Time can't occur all at once;
For the treasure, a journey is simply evident,
Just follow the map to the x marks the spot.
No one can guide you into success,
Cause Achiever, we have to find our own way,
Diversity in each one of us we possess,
And we must persevere, find where history wants us placed.
Achiever, can you see beyond what's ahead?
The long run of your journey,
Trust, take your time, when blindness convolutes the path,
Don't give up, the process' all about learning!
Taught new lessons every day,
Achiever, failure is the best teacher;
Practice makes perfection, just the same,
Don't forget that there's no gradebook for freedom.
Achiever, stop narrowing your eyes,
There's a universe within reach;
Shooting stars, beauty galactic in size,
Each a dream awaiting discovery.
Some days you fall, some you rise,
But remember each mere inch is progress;
And when you're dismayed, think of all the inches behind,
You're climbing farther, with each little twitch of your wrist.
Winds will blow, storms will brew,
Slipping, you may barely hold on,
And you might slide, losing sight of the truth,
But you can't achieve it if you don't just press on.
Doubting, believing, somewhere in between,
But there's one small key to achieving in life;
Yes, Achiever, you can become all you dream-
Just take things one step at a time.
