Chapter One
The camera flashes were going off all around her and twenty year old Breanna Higgins pasted her best mega watt smile on. She'd been in this business for over ten years now. So she knew how this worked by now, step by boring step. She kept walking and waved whenever she heard her name called out, careful not to dislodge her perfectly placed hair. Just another movie premiere and another after party. Another normal day.
This particular movie was one she had never heard of, but it was getting a pretty big buzz with a relatively new actor starring in it. He was supposed to be some big shot from Nashville. In a band and all of that jazz. Oh well. She didn't care anyway, this was just another normal night.
She vaguely heard somebody say the name of the movie, it was called, "The Song". Hmm, to her the title seemed a little *yawn* bo-ring! Where was the badda-boom that the title should give? Whatever she wouldn't really be paying much attention anyways.
The movie started playing. It was different. The love story was full of twists and turns. But something... something about this made her feel... uncomfortable. And it wasn't the acting. Because in fact, it was very well played and believable, though she wouldn't openly admit it. She shook her head. Why did she care anyways?
Finally the movie ended and it was time for the after party.
Oh no, there was a reporter headed her way. He flashed his bleached white teeth as he gave a wink into the camera lenses. "So Breanna? What did you think of this new hot film."
"Hello, Brian. It wasn't what I came expecting. It had a unique story line, with lots of twists and turns." She said carefully choosing her words, smiling back at the shorter than her reporter.
"Your right, Bre. It did. Folks, you just heard it from tv drama Willow Heights star Breanna Higgins about this new movie that has caught so much attention... The Song." He made elaborate hand motions and then it was over and he was gone.
Breanna continued into where the after party was being held. Suddenly her agent, Virginia Whitewood, grabbed her shoulder. She had a powerful grip for such a small woman, her voice commanding as usual. "Go mingle with the stars of the film." Virginia shoved Breanna in the direction of a man and two women.
She recognized the two women from the movie. But if the man was the same one who played... that King dude in the movie... well he must have shaved. A lot.
Breanna put on her best charismatic attitude, and confidently made her way over. "Hi there, I'm Breanna Higgins. I'm sure you've heard of me before. I'm the STAR of tv drama's Willow Heights." She stuck her hand out.
The blonde woman smiled. "Well hi there, I'm Ali Faulkner."
The black haired woman nodded. Who wasn't as tattooed up as she was in the film, surprisingly. "I'm Caitlin Nicol-Thomas."
The man was the last to say anything, he had a firm handshake and a strong voice. "Sorry. I've never watched your show, Miss Higgins. I'm Alan Powell. I'm in a band back home in Nashville called Anthem Lights."
Breanna, however, wasn't quick enough to catch her snort of disgust and the eye roll. She tried to hide the biting sarcastic tone in her voice. "It's Breanna.. Not Miss Higgins. Oh really? A musician turned actor. How original."
He didn't snark back a reply. And there weren't any reporters around. She'd checked after her minor break in character. He actually seemed... genuine. Yuck, why would anyone do that?!?
Before she could say anything else, a pretty blonde woman with a kind face came beside him. In a hushed tone, "Honey. I'm going to call and check on the girls."
Alan nodded towards the woman, "Breanna, this is my wife, Brycie." His eyes went back to his wife. "I'll go with you, honey. It was nice to meet you Breanna."
"Oh, it was nice meeting you too." Breanna called after them, in a sugary sweet tone. If only she meant her feelings sometimes. I guess that's just the Hollywood life.
