Chapter 2 - Edited

Vince has a way of judging things with his eyes. It's like everything he looks at is doomed to Davy Jones's locker. I look at the villagers and see them whispering to each other. Their nasty looks conjure up a sick feeling in my stomach. We finally make it to my home and enter.

My child is in the corner. She's sitting in the fetal position and her eyes are puffy. She gasps when our eyes meet and she comes running to me, ignoring Vince. She hugs me tightly and I wrap my arms around her.

"I tried to get help mom! No one listened, they do not care," she speaks so fast that her words merge with each other.

"It's okay my little snowflake," I kiss the side of her head. "I'm safe. I'm going outside for air. This is Vince. If he tries to hurt you, scream for me. I'll be right outside."

"Mom no," she shakes her head and looks at Vince with great fear.

"He won't hurt you. He has lots to say to you, so listen and behave. I love you my little snowflake." I kiss her head again and I give Vince a dirty look. It's a look that gives him the message that if he hurts my little one, he won't live to see the sea ever again. I walk outside and leave them to it.

Vince's P.O.V

The child gives me the chills. She doesn't resemble me or her mother. When I look into her eaye, it feels like I'm lookin' at treasure. She's valuable. So many kin'doms would pay me a fortune if I sold her. She's lookin' at me as if she's ready t' attack.

"Little one. I'm your father."

"Father? My mother would never be with a horrid man like you!" She bites down on her lips and takes a step back.

"It's t' truth. I won't create some soft story for ye ears. I'm blunt. I'm your father."

"Why would my mom keep this from me? She told me my father died a brave knight."

"Your mother be a liar. I'm a pirate. She probably didn't want you knowin' who I am. A horrible man," I step closer to the girl. "You'd do fine on t' market."

"I'll scream," her eyes widen. "We may share the same blood, but you are not my father. Look at me. I look nothing like you, nor do I look like my mother. I'm God sent."

"Ha!" I almost choke on air. "You're sent from hell child. Maybe your me sins come t' life."

"Shut up! Mom!" She yells. Gennet comes running inside and she protectively casts an arm around her little girl.

"I did no harm t' her," I scoff. "Let me at least know t' child's name. She has to have a name Gennet," my lips move to the side and I look down at my child with great confusion.

Gennet looks down and her expression becomes melancholic. I squint my eyes and turn to the girl. She sighs and moves away from her mother.

"I have no name," the girl repeats, only this time I can hear the desperation in her voice.

"Gennet, you seem t' love her, but maybe I was wrong. You thinkin' o' sellin' her too?" Gennet walks up to me and slaps me across the face. It echoes throughout her small home. My cheek begins to throb. Her hit feels like a sting, but I do nothing but laugh.

"Shut your filthy mouth!" A line forms between her brows. "I love her with all my heart. I have my reasons for not naming her."

"Stop it!" A woman yells.

Everyone's attention drifts to the door. Gennet rubs her daughter's shoulder and walks outside. I smile at the girl and follow Gennet outside her home. I see my men foundlin' a girl's tits. I spit on t' ground and begin to laugh. I knew my men couldn't behave themselves.

"Alright mates, enough." They laugh and let her go.

"Disgusting," Gennet scoffs.

"I'm takin' my leave. I was thinkin' o' sellin' that one, but I won't be that cruel t' you. We will meet again. Name her. That little devil deserves that much."

The little one comes running outside and she clings to her mother as if she's falling off a cliff and needs great support.

"Bye little one," are my last words to my child before I leave.

Gennet's P.O.V

Today was stressful. The village people hate me even more. They say that I'll bring bad luck wherever I go. At one point in my life I thought that if my child was gone, the village would love me again. I'm naïve and heartless. It should be a crime to think the way I do.

I walk into my child's room and she's twisting and turning in her bed. I walk towards her and sit on the bed. She sits up and makes a slight groan. Her eyes are drowsy and her cheeks seems puffier. She clenches onto the covers and looks down with half closed eyes.

"How are you?" I ask.

"Fine. Is he really my father?" Her eyes dance around as if it's searching for a partner.

"I wish it wasn't true, but sadly it is. It doesn't matter because I'm your mother and I'll always protect you."

"Mother. May I have a name?" She looks at me with sad eyes and I can feel a faucet turning inside me. My eyes will soon flood.

"Auphine," I smile. I never want to regret this. She is my child and I want to name her. I claim her as my own. "During my travels I met a girl named Auphine. She fought with me. She was the only other girl I knew that fought. She was brave and beautiful, like you," I poke her nose and she giggles. "She died from a sickness. I want you to bare her name and live on as a strong young woman." I pinch her cheeks.

She chuckles and says, "Thanks mom. Auphine, I love it."

"Auphine Silver. Sometimes I believe it's my last name that cursed you with such strange hair."

"It is not that strange. I like it," she twirls strands of her hair.

"You're right," I smile big. "It's beautiful, like snow. Get some rest my little snow flake." I kiss her cheek and leave her room. Auphine Silver, what a beautiful name for a beautiful girl.
