🍬 Homework Struggles🍭

Dear Boo,

I'm homeschooled and I'm only 14. I'm taking my second year of high school and it's really stressful. Chemistry sucks and I don't know how to do it. I can't do algebra well either.

My Mom thinks I'm really smart, but I've barely been getting good scores. I started cheating a bit because I was so stressed and I have to be finished with chemistry and algebra I soon.

What should I do?

Hugs and kisses,
Isabelle*

Dear Isabelle*,

Hey dear, thanks for writing to me about your issue with your school work. It's very impressive that you're in your sophomore year of high school at age 14!

Chemistry is very hard, normally it's a class that students take their junior (third) year when they're 16/17 years old. Try not to put yourself down, you're doing a wonderful job.

Cheating is something that will only hurt you in the end. Is there anyone that can help you with chemistry? In fact, is anyone reading this good at chemistry that can offer some advice and/or help? I can help you with algebra. Math has always been my strong suit since elementary school. I actually love doing math work...yep, ya girl is a math nerd.. proudly! So, I can help you with any problems with math.

There are many websites that offer homework help. I will list a few at the end of this letter, hopefully, they will be of some help. How do you learn the easiest? Sometimes people learn by visual, some by talking and others by reading. It may be helpful if you changed how you study. For example, some people need to be told how things work or see a problem done in front of them. As for me, I learn by reading. Each person is different. There is no wrong way to learn.

When it comes to math the main things you want to remember are formulas and to always use the order of operations. I will include the formulas below.

PEMDAS! Remember it's always done left to right.

Please (parentheses)

Excuse (exponents)

My (multiplication)

Dear (division)

Aunt (addition)

Sally (subtraction)

I've seen some people create a song or poem out if the chemistry letters to help them. I didn't take chemistry in high school, I took physics instead.

Talk to your Mom. Tell her how you're having a hard time with these two subjects. I won't say all, but most parents understand more than our children realize. She may have a way that can help you retain the information when you study.

Have you looked up chemistry help on YouTube? I'm sure there are plenty of videos on there. While you're studying don't think negative! Keep in mind that you will do great. Also, using flash cards can help a lot as well.

You can do this, don't give up hope! I believe in you!

Love Always,
Boo
