Chapter One
11 November
"Switching it up today, are ya Castiel?" The barista remarked, smirking as he wrote Castiel's name on his cup. Castiel looked up, his striking blue eyes meeting equally striking green ones. Sure, it was an unusually cold November morning, and Castiel had, in fact, chosen to order a large hot chocolate as opposed to his normal coffee, but he never expected anyone to notice—and definitely not to point it out.
"Y-yeah, I am," Castiel replied. He gave a quick smile to the barista and moved on from the line, settling in where he would pick up his drink.
While he waited his eyes wandered, eventually ending up watching the window as gusts of wind blew swirling torrents of multicoloured leaves across the ground. There were few people out, and the ones that were out wore heavy coats and sometimes the occasional hat or scarf. Castiel smiled, he knew his trustworthy trench coat would shield him from all the elements.
Castiel was suddenly torn from his thoughts when a loud voice rang out, "I've got a large hot chocolate for... Uh... Castle?" Castiel sighed as he raised his hand, moving to pick up his drink. His eyes glanced over to where the barista stood, leaning over the counter with arms crossed and a smug look on his face.
Of course this was a normal occurrence. The barista—his name was Dean, as Castiel noted from his name tag a few weeks ago—would spell his name wrong on the cup. Castiel would glance over to him, at which point Dean would grin cheekily or offer a wink. Today was no different.
Castiel quickly averted his eyes and grabbed his drink. He made his way to the door and stepped out, but not before hearing a smug "See ya later, Castle."
Castiel pulled his trench coat a little closer to his body to keep wind from making him cold, and he made his way down the sidewalk to his work. He knows my name, Castiel thought. Why does he always do that?
Castiel opened the door to the doctor's office where he worked, stepping inside and trading his trench coat for his doctor's coat. He felt right at home as he slipped on his coat, the material sitting just right on his shoulders.
