Twenty-five: desperation and school night

Emma's P.O.V:

"We need to close it!" I breath hard, not daring to the let the knob of the door go.

"Grab something!" Scott tells Stiles.

"What?" he answers, looking everywhere. There's nothing here we can use to lock the door.

"Anything!" Scott sounds desperate.

Stiles suddenly stands up and looks out of the little window.

"No, Stiles, what are you doing?!" I squeal when I see him opening the door.

Scott holds me as Stiles gets out picking up his tool. I see the Alpha coming from behind his jeep.

"Come back, Stiles, come back!" I scream hitting the door with my hands.

Scott has a tight grip around my waist. Stiles runs back and we can lock the door with his tool, though I'm pretty sure it isn't an obstacle for the murderer werewolf.

"Where is it?" Scott asks, letting go of me. I immediately get close to Stiles and hug the shit out of him without saying a word. We don't have time for this anyway. "Where did it go?"

With a hand around my waist and the other holding a flash (only God knows where it came from), Stiles looks out of the window and this time the parking lot seems desert.

We give a few steps back, begging for the Alpha not to come right now.

"That won't hold on, will it?" I do my best for my voice to come out firmly.

"Probably not." Stiles looks down at me.

We all stare at each other for a few seconds, to contemplate what to do next. This is probably the last time I'll see them anyway. We hear it howling and is all it takes for us to run to the nearest classroom.

This is going to be a very, very long night.

Stiles' P.O.V:

"Desk!" is the first thing Scott thinks about. He's already pushing the desk towards the door.

"Stop, stop!" Emma says. I'm proud to say we had the same idea.

"The door is not gonna keep it out," I tell Scott and I'm pretty sure I beat Emma to it. "I hate your boss!" I state.

"What?" Scott answers, confused as always.

"Deaton? The Alpha? Your boss!" Emma rolls her eyes, taking a step closer to me.

"No!" Scott defends him.

Is he serious? Deaton has always been weird anyways.

"Yes! Murderer psycho werewolf!" I support Emma on this.

"He can't be!" Scott insists. Is this really the time to discuss all of this? All I want to do is to get out of here and take Emma home, safe and sound.

"Oh, come on!" Emma fights back. "He disappears and that thing shows up ten seconds later to toss Derek twenty feet throw the air? That's not convenient timing?!"

"Not him!"

Oh my God.

"He killed Derek!" Emma exclaims, her hands going to her hair and tying it in a pony tail.

"No, Derek's not dead! He can't be dead!" I can see Scott's desperation. He's the most affected in all of this.

"Blood spread out of his mouth, okay? That doesn't exactly qualify as a minor injury. He's dead and we're next." I state firmly.

"Okay, just...What do we do?" Scott asks. I sigh, looking for Emma's hand to support myself. I just hope this entire anchor thingy also applies to common human beings because right now I need her to calm me down and help me think.

"We get to my jeep, we get out of here." I look at her and she nods furiously. She's scared, I can tell; I need to do something to keep her safe, anything.

Unfortunately, there isn't much I can do when I'm scared as hell myself.

I run to the window just in time to hear Emma say, "you seriously think about quitting your job." I don't laugh, though, because we don't have time for this.

"No, they don't open," she says when Scott tries to open the window. "School's climate control."

"Then we break it," Scott suggests.

"That would make a lot of noise," I state. What are we going to do?

"Then we run really fast...really fast." Scott looks out of the window to spot my jeep. I just hope he can carry Emma while running at a supernatural speed.

Emma holds into my hand once again and I look at her, trying to comfort her in the best way I can. I try to play with her tied hair, hoping she'll relax.

"Stiles, what's wrong with the hood of your jeep?" Scott interrupts our lame moment and I look out of the window.

"What do you mean? Nothing's wrong."

"It's bent," Emma says approaching the window.

"Dented?!" I say horrified. Whoever this Alpha is, is taking it way too far.

"N-no, I mean bent." Emma insists. I point out with the flashlight and I hate to admit she's right. The hood is completely bent.

"What the hell...?" a loud noise in the middle of the terrifying silence of nocturne school and glass shattering in front of our faces make me grab Emma by the arm and take her down with me, trying to cover as much of her as I can.

A couple of feet after us, the battery of my car stands. We're so screwed.

"We need to move," Emma says but Scott stops her.

"He could be right outside," he points out.

"He's right outside" I clear his doubts.

"Just let me take a look." Scott stands up so he can approach the window and I pass an arm around Emma's shoulders. Scott was right; I should have let her out of this. I just never thought it'd end up like this.

"We're moving now?" I mumble, scared that my voice won't come out as secure as I want to sound.

"We're moving now," Scott orders. Out in the halls again, we need to decide what to do now. "This way," Scott suggests.

"No, no, no!" Emma stops him. "Somewhere without windows." Don't get me wrong, I always knew Emma was a smart girl, but now; now I'm just surprised of how objective she's being compared to how scared I know she is. She has thought about everything.

"Every single room in this building have windows." Scott states the obvious.

"Yes, but somewhere with less windows," I clarify, if it wasn't obvious enough for someone.

"The locker room!" Emma says.

"Yeah!" I say, still surprised of how fearless she's being to manage the situation.

The way to the locker room is filled with our hard breathing and I swear I've never been happiest to see this shitty room in front of us.

"Call your dad," Scott says and I'm not sure who's he talking to and I don't care: neither of our parents are coming tonight, it doesn't matter what happens.

"And tell them what?" Emma snaps, obviously thinking the same.

"I don't know, anything; fugue of gas, fire, whatever. If that thing sees the parking lot full of cops then it'll take off!"

"Well, what if it doesn't take off?" Emma makes her point clear. "What if it goes completely terminator and kills all of the cops inside?"

"Including our dads!" I add for him to understand our point of view.

"They have guns!" like if that is going to completely validate your argument, Scott McCall.

"Yes, and Derek had to be shot with a wolfs bane aconite bullet to slow him down, remember that?" Once again, Emma's thinking about everything at the same time, maybe even overthinking it.

God, I just want to slam her against the wall and kiss her until she's back to the same chilled Emma I've grown fond of.

"We have...we have to find a way to just get out and run."

"There's nothing near the school for at least a mile." I pull away my thoughts about the girl I put in danger tonight.

"What about Derek's car?" but if someone's desperate here, that's Scott; if I feel guilty for bringing Emma here, I imagine what he's feeling for bringing both of us here.

"That could work," Emma says. "We get out, take the keys out of his body," she adds, making a face. "and then we take his car."

"And him." Scott adds. Is he serious?

"Fine, whatever." Emma rolls her eyes and we start moving again. I'm just about to open the door when Scott stops me.

"What?"

"I think I heard something," he whispers.

"Like what-" he doesn't let me finish.

Oh no, he's at the door. He's right at the door. We step back and I try to cover Emma with my own body. Better me than her.

"Hide," Scott orders. I don't think twice to open a locker and toss Emma into it, quickly doing the same with me on the next one. "Stiles, no!" Scott gives up anyway and copy us.

The door is opened and that's it. That's the end of our short bored lives. I have to cover my mouth with my hand to stop myself from screaming.

Scott's locker is opened and I get out of mine to see the janitor.

"Son of a bitch!"

"Quiet! What the hell are you guys trying to do? Kill me?" no, we don't. But someone else...maybe. "Three of you, get out."

"Please, could you just listen for half a second, okay?" Emma pleads. If we get out of here, we're done.

"Not okay, get the hell out of here, right now!" is he really that furious because we scared him? We thought he was a psycho werewolf and we were trying to save our butts, is it really that bad?

"Just one second to explain!" Emma tries one last time when he kicks us out of the room.

"Just get out of here!" the janitor demands. I'm going to protest once again but the door suddenly close and holy shit, the Alpha was in the locker room with us and now he's killing the janitor.

Thank God he kicked us out!

Scott tries to open the door to go and help him but Emma and I pull him away and run for dear life.

The whole time I'm holding Emma's hand, because maybe, in the worst of the cases, it'll be the last time I'll be able to do such a thing.
