Thirty-nine: friend's bond and formality
Stiles' P.O.V:
I just told her dad we're dating, what did I do? We're not dating as far as I know. Not that I have experience but I'm pretty sure someone has to ask the other first.
And just now I realize she's wearing my shirt. She looks so hot in my clothes.
"I-yeah, it is. Do you want it back or something?" She blushes, sounding vulnerable.
"What? Of course not, don't you dare taking that off." I smirk, sitting down beside her. "I love you, Emma."
She looks up at me, leaning in for a kiss. I kiss her back, softly and slowly. "I love you, Stiles."
I softly laugh, not wanting to pull away. "What are we, exactly?"
I think about it for a second, I definitely don't want to kill the atmosphere with a stupid reply.
"Just two teenagers who love each other, but we can be whatever you want us to be."
She rests her head on my shoulder before replying.
"I really want us to be more, but I'm scared of it."
I wrap my arms around her, kissing her temple.
"We're just going to wait then. Meet you upstairs? I'm going to call Scott, I haven't known about him in a while, yeah?"
"Sure." She smiles, heading upstairs.
I'm pretty sure Scott is fine on his own; I just needed to make this call. If she wants us to be more, we'll be more. I want her to know that I really love her.
"Hey, what's up, Danny boy?"
"Why are you calling, it's like midnight," he complains. I guess it is, but I've been falling asleep really late these past months.
"I need you to do me a favour," I tell him. "It's about Emma."
He groans, "just because Emma isn't as annoying as you. What do you need?"
"I want to invite her to the formal? How do I do that exactly?" I feel like an idiot. I hope Danny knows something about relationships.
"Dude, you really are a loser, aren't you?" Danny laughs. "How's that you can't invite your own girlfriend to the formal?"
"Huh, that's the point. She's not my girlfriend," I say awkwardly. "Can you just tell me what to do? I'll do it, I swear."
"Oh, okay. Tell me what are Emma's favourite things over a text and you'll have her wrapped around your finger. Just drop the money of the invitations in my locker tomorrow morning and we're even."
"Danny, I think I love you," I sing, running upstairs.
"This is for Emma, not you." He says before hanging up.
I kiss Emma intently that night. Her tongue tastes like peppermint and I want to get drunk of it. Every touch burns my skin and I know I'm talking like a girl right now but I can't help it.
She has this effect on me.
Emma's P.O.V:
I'm currently sat on Stiles' lap, dialling Scott's number for the hundredth time.
"Call again," he orders when it sends me to voice mail.
Stiles groans, taking strands of my hair in his fingers.
"It's not here," he says. "So you lost your phone. Why don't you just get a new one?"
"I can't afford a new one," Scott says looking under his bed. "And I can't do this alone. We need to find Derek."
"Oh, hey!" I get his attention. "You're not alone; you have us." I smile, pointing between Stiles and I. "And didn't you say Derek walked into gunfire?"
"That sounds pretty dead." Stiles adds.
"Argent's plan was using him to get the Alpha, they're not going to kill him," Scott says. He reminds me of Stiles right now, he's acting a bit hyper.
"Alright, so, just let them do what they planned!" Stiles says. Yeah, it's pretty hard to come out with a plan in the first place, why does he need to ruin it? "They use Derek to get Peter...problem solved."
"No if Peter is going after Allison to find Derek!" Scott says and he has a point. But Allison is protected by her crazy aunt, isn't her?
"I can't protect them on my own, which means I need to find Derek first. Help me!"
"You probably lost it when you two were fighting," I suggest. "Remember that? When he was trying to kill you? After you save him off to kill Jackson?"
"Are you starting to see a pattern of violent behaviour here?" Stiles add, tightening his grip around me.
"He wasn't going to kill anyone." Scott defends Derek. "And I'm not letting him die." How can he be so sure?
"Can you just think about letting him die?" I try one more time. It isn't like Derek hasn't ruined my life before. "For me?"
Scott's head shots up like when a dog hears something. "What?" Stiles asks.
"My mom got earlier from work," he says, listening to whatever Melissa is doing.
"Is she okay?" I ask after Scott's expression changes. He shakes his head. I stand up and approach Scott.
"What's she doing?" Stiles asks, still on the desk chair.
"Crying," Scott confesses, allowing me to hug him. He wraps his arms around me and his chin on the top of my head.
"You did the right thing, Scott," I comfort him. "You couldn't just let her date Peter."
Scott pulls away, taking my hand and guiding me to the bed. We both sit in front of Stiles.
"Scott, you can't protect everyone," he tells him, dead serious.
"I have to," he says, squeezing my hand.
I look between both of them, finally standing up.
"Alright, my boys, we'll find a way, I promise. Now come give me a hug you two."
We have this group hug thingy and I couldn't be happier about this moment. We're bonding again, after all the drama we've been into.
Although I have the feeling that this is just the beginning.
I let them alone for a bit, deciding to check on Melissa. I find her in her car, staring at nothing with tears in her eyes. I get into the car with her, in the passenger seat which seems to be my only spot.
"You alright?" I ask her.
"What? Yeah, yeah...I'm fine," she smiles, wiping away her tears.
"I'm sorry that Stiles ruined your date. It wasn't his intention." Bullshit. "And if he doesn't call you back then he just don't worth it. You're the coolest woman-mother I know, Melissa."
She smiles, reaching for a hug across the seats. It is kind of awkward but it counts anyway.
"Why do you have to like Stiles?" she laughs. "You could just date Scott and we'd be happy. You're the most amazing girl I know, Emma."
I laugh with her because this is something just mamma McCall would tell me.
"I think Scott thinks about me like his annoying sister," I clarify. "But hey, Allison isn't that bad...things are just complicated, I guess."
"I know." She nods. "I just wish he told me what's going on. We used to be closer than this."
"Yeah, it's part of growing up. I'm sure he'll come back to you eventually." I smile at her.
"We should get inside, yeah? I'll cook something." She opens her door and I do the same.
We walk inside, her arm around my shoulder and I miss my mom more than ever.
Stiles' P.O.V:
"I'm going to check on your mom, Scott. I'll be right back," Emma says pulling away from the hug and kissing my cheek before leaving the room.
I sit back in the desk chair, trying to hide my smile or the fact that my cheeks are burning.
Scott just stares at me, a little smirk playing on his lips.
"What?" I say when it gets awkward.
"So you and Emma, huh?"
"Me and Emma..." I trail off, pretending I don't know what he's talking about.
"Three months ago you hated her." Scott laughs a little. I cough, not wanting to remember that part of my life.
"Yeah, well...I don't hate her anymore?"
"Dude, you really like her-"
"Love her." I correct. "I-huh, I really love her."
Scott looks at me again and smiles, a truthful smile.
"I'm really happy for you two. You know that, right?"
"We haven't had sex, Scott. Can you please relax?"
"I know you haven't," he laughs again. Why is this so amusing to him? "I know Emma. But between us two, I do smell desire."
"You serious?" I feel my eyes widening at the same times my smile does. "Oh, boy!"
"I'm seriously happy about you two. Who would have thought?" Scott pats my shoulder and I proudly smile.
"She's just amazing, you know? So beautiful, smart, charming...holy God, I'm in love." I sigh, acting like a girl. I don't care though, this is Scott after all; my brother Scott.
"Just...uh, just don't hurt her or else I'll have to kill you. Sorry, mate, but that's how it works."
I look down; this is the same thing her dad told me last night. Why can't they have a little faith in me? I love her, you aren't supposed to hurt the ones you love.
You are supposed to love them.
"She's not even my girlfriend yet, so I doubt that's happening any time soon."
"She's not?" Scott asks suddenly. "What the hell is stopping you?"
"I don't know...maybe the fact that every time we're having a moment, either we have to run for our lives or we have to drive all the way through the woods in order to save your supernatural ass," I say sarcastically.
"That isn't an excuse. You're scared," he accuses me. This is why Scott is my best friend, he can see right through me.
"What if I am?" he doesn't have time to answer, because Emma gets into the room once again.
"She'll be alright," she smiles, sitting beside Scott. "She's cooking something; you should stay for dinner before going to wherever you want to go tonight."
"How do you know I'm planning on going out?"
"Because you just admitted that you have this weird obligation of protecting everyone. You're either going to look for Derek or watch Allison sleep, which is kind of creepy."
"That's Scott for you, babe." I smile, standing up to kiss her temple. "Let's go help your mom, Scott. A little time with her won't hurt."
Scott stands up, leading the way to the kitchen. I find Emma's hand in the way I couldn't be happier.
I'm glad we had that moment the three of us, I feel like we need to remind each other that we're still best friends, still supporting each other.
I'm also glad that I got to talk to Scott about Emma. Lately, Allison, werewolves, deaths and the Hales is the only thing we talk about.
During dinner, we talk about school, Melissa's work and even about Emma and me being 'a thing'.
Scott's mother laughs and talks very happily and Scott looks happy, too.
It's more than okay, we deserved it. We deserved at least one night away from the supernatural world.
