Seven: police's vocabulary and second chance at first line

Stiles' P.O.V:

We've been waiting for ages for Derek Hale to decide to leave his not too comfortable house (if you can even call it that) and go to do his werewolf stuff.

I already had to tell Scott to shut up twice and wake Emma fourth. I feel like a total babysitter right now.

As soon as Derek's Camaro is out of the way, I finally start the car once again.

"Won't you wait until he's completely gone?" Emma whispers and I dismiss her.

She hasn't been the best company tonight.

We get out of the car, me and Scott each with a shovel in hand while Emma holds the flashlight.

"Wait, something's different," Scott says still walking into the direction where-I guess- he smelled the body.

"Different how?" Emma asks more concerned that scared.

You put any other girl in a situation like this one and they would be too scared to move right now. But Emma is right next to me, holding the damn flashlight as if it was her phone and she was texting her boyfriend...if she had a boyfriend, that is.

Maybe she has one?

I don't care.

"I don't know."

If he doesn't know he should stop walking. Why isn't he stopping?

"Let's just get this over with," Emma sighs, as we start digging.

It's been a while now, I feel like we've been working for hours. Still nothing.

Emma and I make turns to help Scott, because as the humans we are, we do get tired. I am all dirty and sweaty and so is Emma.

"This is taking us too long!" Scott complains as Emma hands me the shovel and takes the flashlight on her little hands.

"Just keep going," I say, digging the shovel into the damn hole once again.

"What if he comes back?" Scott insists.

Why is he so damn pessimist, someone explain me.

"Then we get the hell out of here," Emma states. We discussed this via text message while she was on detention, though I'd never tell Scott. I actually had a laugh talking to her. We came with a really dumb plan but, can you blame us? She was locked at school with Harris and I was home alone.

"What if he catches us?"

What is this, Scott McCall, twenty questions?!

"We have a plan for that," I say, my voice harsh.

I am so sick of dust, I need a warm shower.

"Which is?"

Oh, for goodness' sake, someone shut the werewolf up, please.

"We run each in different ways, whoever he catches first, too bad," Emma says rolling her eyes and I quietly chuckle. It actually feels right to have some sort of intern joke with her.

It is nice to be his 'colleague' as we call each other.

"I hate that plan," Scott keeps complaining. He's the one with supernatural powers; I don't know why he's so worried.

I dig in once again and hit something.

"Oh, wait, wait, wait!" I stop Scott's actions.

Emma points at the ground with the flashlight.

This is getting interesting, finally.

Removing the dirt with our hands now, we find a rope. Scott keeps complaining about all of the knots, I swear I'll hit him, supernatural powers or not.

When we finally get to open it, there's a freaking wolf buried on the ground, making us all jump back.

"Oh my God!" Emma exclaims. "I think I had a minor heart attack."

"What the hell is that!" I say, ignoring the fact that Emma's comment is something I'd say.

"Is a wolf," Scott states the obvious.

"Yeah, we can see that!" Emma keeps touching her chest, as if she was looking for her pulse or something.

"I thought you said you smelled blood, as in human blood!" I say, still shocked.

"I told you something was different!" Scott defends himself.

What the hell is going on?

"This doesn't makes sense," Emma comments. No shit, Lee.

"We need to get out of here," Scott stands up.

"Yeah," I quickly follow. "Help me cover this up."

We try to put everything back in its place when Emma abruptly stops her work.

"What's wrong?" Scott asks for the millionth time tonight.

"You see that flower?" she elbows me, pointing to a purple flower in front of us. "I think it's wolfs bane."

"What's that?" Scott is still confused. Emma and I had researched enough to know this isn't healthy for our werewolf friend.

I don't realize Emma is getting closer to the flower while I am wondering why I even hang out with Scott. He does have a TV on his house, he should use it sometime.

"You are so unprepared for this."

I kneel down next to Emma, who takes the flower in her hands. It is tied to a rope, probably the same one that hides the dead wolf.

The rope makes a spiral shape on the ground, I wonder if it's just coincidence or Derek Hale did it on purpose.

"Stiles?" Emma calls me.

I take all of the rope with the flower and walk over them.

On the exact spot where the wolf was, the other part of the body is standing.

"Holy shit!" I exclaim. Emma looks away while I can't stop staring.

So Derek did kill the girl and buried her on his property. What a psycho.

Emma's P.O.V:

I'm lying against Stiles' jeep, watching as my dad and Sheriff Stilinski take Derek out of his own house into that damn cop's car and the only good thing about this is that Stiles got me something to eat when he picked me up this morning.

I'm not sure if it's a good thing to be involved with my dad's work because he won't stop asking questions...but it's a little bit late for that now.

Besides, I don't know what the point of arresting Mister Creepy is; I feel like Scott's doing it exclusively because he wants to be First Line and Derek Experienced-Werewolf Hale doesn't allow him to.

"What is he doing?" Scott whispers when Stiles approaches the car.

I roll my eyes and stand up straight.

"He's being his idiot-self. That's Stiles for you," I say with a sigh and follow him into the cop's car.

"No, Emma!" Scott tries to stop me but it's too late.

Stiles and I are supposed to be a team, so I have to support him; stupid or not.

We barely fit into the passenger sit but we manage to get comfortable, although there's no personal space. I mean, Stiles and I are way closer than we should be right now.

"Okay, just for you to know; we're not afraid of you," Stiles says and Derek gives us his serial killer look.

"Okay, maybe we are," I sigh, earning a quick look from my colleague. "It doesn't matter."

"I just want to know something; the girl you killed, she was a werewolf but she was a different kind, wasn't she?" Stiles asks a very interesting question that I'm not sure if the answer is solving-worthy enough to lock ourselves in a car with a wild werewolf who won't stop pulling that look that's scaring the shit out of me.

"I mean, she could turn herself into an actual wolf and I know Scott can't do that. Is that why you killed her?" Stiles continues. What is the urge of knowing all of this anyway? She's already dead; I mean...the killer is in front of us.

"Why did you decided to be so worried about me when is your friend who's the problem?" he says looking at me and I swear to God this has to do with my current physical proximity with Stiles and our little talk the other day more than Scott. Do all werewolves take things so personal?

"When he shifts on the field, what do you think they're going to do, huh? Just keep cheering him on? I can't stop him from playing but you can," Derek states and gets closer to us, making me unconsciously lean on Stiles even more if that's possible.

"And trust me, you want to."

As soon as the last sentence is spoken, the door gets opened and I feel someone's hand pulling me out of the car, Stiles closely following. What a surprise! Dad and Sheriff, also known as Stiles' dad...this is just great.

"There, both of you stand."

Is this a double father/police-daughter/son talk? Because it's awkward.

"What the hell do you guys think you're doing?" Sheriff asks beyond mad.

"We're just trying to help!" Stiles immediately says.

"Okay, how about you help us to understand exactly how you guys came across this?" my dad looks at me and then at Stiles, Sheriff nodding in agreement.

"We were looking for Scott's inhaler" Stiles sighs.

That's actually brilliant! Except...

"Which he dropped when?" Papa Stilinski interrogates us.

"The other night," Stiles sells himself out. What an idiot.

"The other night when you were first looking for the other half of the body," my father clarifies.

"Yes!" Stiles says, superiority clearly in his tone.

"The night that you told me you were alone and Scott was at home," his father goes on.

Oh, crap.

"Yes!"

Realization hits him before I have the chance to.

"Oh, crap," the exact words I pronounced in my thoughts.

"So you lied to me," Sheriff states.

I decide to take a step closer to Stiles so I can avoid my father's look for as long as I can.

"Sorry I interrupt, Sheriff, but that depends on how you define lying..." I involve myself into the conversation.

Stiles looks down at me and half smiles; I just get closer to him because I rather get in trouble with the Sheriff than my dad, even though punishment will be pretty much the same.

"Well, I define it as not telling the truth. How do you define it, Emma?" Papa Stilinski seems interested in my point of view. Or maybe he's just surprised that I'm taking Stiles' side for once.

I scoff.

"Reclining your body...in a horizontal position?" Stiles quietly chuckles at my attempt.

"Get out of here," Sheriff sighs.

"Absolutely!" Stiles takes my wrist and tries to drag me away with him.

"Next time let me answer the questions," I demand.

"Yeah, because you were brilliant out there..." Stiles rolls his eyes at me as he walks to the car.

"Not so fast, kids."

Holy shit, that's my dad's voice.

"I'll take this lady home this time."

I turn around and shot him a smile.

"Yeah, I was getting tired of her anyway," Stiles shrugs.

"Just go away if you don't want to end up like that girl," I give him a look and he silently mocks me.

"Take me to Allison's?" I plead my dad, though I doubt he will.

I turn around and walk towards my dad's car in defeat.

First five minutes are completely silent and I'm afraid he'll wait until we get home. That only means he needs to fully concentrate on his rant.

"Tell me you weren't on the woods the other night."

Oh, okay; this is not that bad.

"I wasn't on the woods the other night, dad. I stayed with Jess; you can ask her if you don't believe me."

"I do believe you," he gives me a look. "It is just the way you defended Stiles out there."

"What? What is that supposed to mean?" I give him a concerned look.

Is this all about Stiles? More than the possibility of me going dead body hunting, is that me and Stiles could be together? Are you freaking serious?

"You have got to be kidding me."

"Well, aren't you kind of something? I always see you around with him, ever since school started, Emma. It can be a coincidence, but I have enough evidence to prove you wrong."

I hate it when he does this.

"Don't throw your Police's vocabulary at me, daddy! I don't care how much "evidence" you have, I do know what's going on with my relationships, thank you. Stiles and I only hang out because of Scott, okay?"

I try to calm down as my dad sighs and shifts uncomfortably on his sit.

"Sorry, Emma. Is just that...uh, never mind."

"You and Sheriff Stilinski are partners, daddy. Why can't Stiles and I be buddies as well?"

"Because the only thing you'll be is partners in crime. Listen, Emma; Stiles and Scott are always getting in trouble. I want you to stay away, yeah? I want you safe, living a normal life, away from police stuff. That's my work to do."

"I was just trying to help, dad," I mumble, "okay, won't happen again, I promise."

He smiles at me and everything seems to be forgotten. Except the fact that my own dad thought me and Stiles were something. I will never ever get over this.

"I'll drop you at Allison's; I have to support the Sheriff with Derek Hale. I promise we'll go to see a car for you tomorrow."

"Oh, don't worry about that, dad. Take it easy, yeah? I don't need a car anyway. Good luck!"

I wait for him to pull into the driveway and get out of the car.

If I have my own car it will only mean my deal with Stilinski is over.

Knowing Stiles and considering what just happened, he has all the right to tell me to stay away; even if he's the one that asked for help in the first place.

There's no way I won't help Scott now.
