Affection is what's lacking in most homes, most of our problems as an Ummah starts from our very own households first because most of the Parents don't really know how to show affection to their children , there are several ways of showing your affection towards your kids however the most neglected way of showing your affection as parents is being a true example to your children religiously because if you can impose on your children the very must be adhered rules of Islam without telling them the purpose of those rules and the reward for adhering those rules then your affection is honestly baseless and materialistic I am sorry to say that because to me there's no affection that i can show towards anybody if I don't have a deep love for Allah swt and if my connection with Him isn't firm because the genuine affection and love evolves around Him and He's indeed the nourisher of the hearts and souls to begin with hence if the foundation of my affection isn't purely for His sake then the very affection becomes meaningless and temporary because you're expressing your affection through materialism by providing financial assistance such like buying clothes for them , allowing them to live in your house and trying to be there for them but that's not the real essence of their life because you'll never forever be there to continue providing for them instead you should express your affection by building a firm relationship between them and their Rabb which will fulfill their every need in your present and absent otherwise when they grow up they'll grow up with that empty feeling inside them and will yearn for affection because you haven't really given them the real affection and they'll express the same affection you gave through various ways one being by looking for others to fill that void in your absent because they're so attached to the need of human affection but Sadly there's no guaranteed others will give it to them without expecting something in return as they themselves don't really understand the true affection and taking advantage of them so dear parents be very careful.
