Chapter 5: Friends?
I haven't told my dad about my boxing experience yet because that would open the door for conversation. I haven't told my dad about Ky yet because that would also open the door for conversations. I am not a fan of conversations. Especially with my dad.
Conversations never really end well with him. It always ends with me being in the wrong, or I am disappointing my dead mother. Whom I must remind everyone that I never even met.
Still at this moment I can hear my dad talking on the phone. I hear him ending the phone call as he makes his way towards my room. It's obvious he is talking to someone at the school, so this has to be about James.
However; my dad entered my room with the biggest smile on his face. "You broke the punching bag in the weight room!"
That was more of a statement, but I decided to treat it as a question. "On accident. We turned it into a tetherball."
"We?" Dad asked. It looks like the interrogation has started.
"Ky and I."
"Ky?"
"My new friend."
"Friend?"
So, there I was, stuck telling my dad about Ky. Ky and I got bored and started to punch the punching bag towards another until we snapped the bag off of the chain. I did tell the weightlifting coach that I would pay for a new one. So, I guess they called my dad.
"I can't wait to meet your friend." My dad said as he started air boxing. "Give him the old one, two uppercut combo."
"You want to hit my friend?" I asked.
"Hell yeah!" My dad screamed a little too excited.
I couldn't tell if dad was so happy because Ky boxes or if it's because I called him my friend. Are we friends? I mean we only hung out once, which is more than I hung out with anyone before.
It could have just been for the one time. Watch, I will go back to school tomorrow and I will be all alone again.
And that is exactly what happened.
The next day at lunch I found Ky sitting with a group of girls.
"Aw Ky isn't sitting with us?" Bubbles, I mean Erin asked as she took a seat unusually close to me.
I couldn't really answer. I mean obviously he wasn't sitting with us. Wait, am I really saying us.
"That girl he is with is very pretty." Aubrey pointed out.
I got a good look at the girl sitting next to Ky. She was gorgeous. She has these bright brown eyes with dark brown hair with golden highlights. She had this beautiful smile. Unfortunately she kept her arm interlocked with Ky.
"Ten out of ten would smash." Aubrey mumbled.
"Aubrey." Brook hissed.
"Don't judge me." Aubrey laughed.
"Who is that? Are they dating?" I asked.
All three of the Powerpuff Girls looked at me with these mischievous grins on their faces. I realized I just opened Pandora's Box of female drama. If this was a musical this would be the perfect time to enter a song for the beautiful girl introduced to the story.
"That's Katerina. Current valedictorian and cheerleading captain." Erin said.
"Why is being cheerleader captain important?" I asked.
"Hello?" Brook asked as she motioned to all of their outfits. They were all in cheerleader uniforms.
"Gross. I am sitting with a bunch of cheerleaders." I joked. Surprisingly the girls laughed. "Why are you girls dressed up anyway?"
"The prep rally is next period. We are going over the theme for the dance as well as announcing the boxing team participants." Erin explained. "Only four guys can actually make the team, one per weight class, so we hold a little tournament to see who gets to represent the school."
"There are seventeen weight classes." I explained.
"If you list out the seventeen weight classes, Ty I promise you, I will list every single makeup brand that I know." Aubrey threatened.
That's one way to get me silent. I wonder if I can ditch this prep rally.
