Chapter 12: Blood Rush

I honestly hate boxing.

Maybe it is just the people, because these are the most obnoxious guys in the school. Also our coach doesn't make it better. The famous Coach Reynold. The best coach in the league until my dad took his fighter out.

So, here we are in the gym being sorted into our weight class. I towered over the other three guys in my weight class. They looked up at me in fear. Throwing a match is starting to look impossible.

We were all watching as Coach Reynold was focused on the lightweight class first. He was yelling directions at Ky and James, who for some reason were paired with each other. James had no issues following directions, and was landing every hit on Ky. Ky, being deaf, couldn't hear a thing and kept messing up.

This has been the same routine all week. Reynolds would pair James with Ky, James would beat Ky up, and that ends Ky's practice for the day.

"Why are you here if you aren't going to listen to me?" Reynolds screamed at Ky.

Everyone could see that Ky was getting frustrated. Ky was doing everything in his power to hold back his tears.

"What's wrong? Does the word "listen" bother you?" Reynolds mocked.

Yup. I had enough.

I decided to stand up and walk over to the group in the ring. I motioned for Ky to come over to me.

"Come on Ky. We are leaving." I announced.

"What do you mean leaving?" Reynold's snapped. "Are you quitting the team?"

"This isn't the team, this is practice for tryouts. As long as we show up for your tournament we will be fine." I argued.

"You two don't know the basic fundamentals of boxing. Your lack of knowledge could hurt the other participants."

"Don't worry. I know a guy." I said as I pulled Ky out of the ring.

After a week's worth of practice I finally had enough of this guy. I never got the chance to hit him, I keep beating up the same three guys who don't deserve it, and Ky keeps getting his ass kicked. At this point coming to practice is more morally destructive if anything.

Ky was super uncomfortable as he got in my car. I really wanted to explain to him what was going on but I didn't know how.

My plan was to have my dad coach us, so Ky would have a fair chance in the tournament. This was a win-win situation because Ky would meet my dad, his childhood hero and my dad would have a new boxing partner.

I didn't think how seeing my house would affect Ky. My house was larger than normal. Standard mansion. To Ky though it was more than a mansion, because behind those front doors was his hero.

When I opened the door I found my dad in his usual at home alone outfit. Shirtless and in sweatpants.

"You're home early bud," My dad greeted. "Who's this?"

When I turned to introduce Ky, Ky fainted. Ky completely stopped breathing as he laid motionlessly on his back.

"Good going dad. You killed him." I joked.

"We are even then."

"Dad." High key shock.

"You can say a dark joke, but I can't? Besides, his blood is pumping. It is just going to the wrong spot."

Even though he passed out Ky was clearly excited.

"We should call for help." Dad offered.

"Yeah."
