Chapter 10: How

I want to say that I felt a change within me. The thing is, this feeling could be mistaken for the amount of bruises that Ky gave me. After I delivered what should have been a knockout blow, Ky got angry and whooped my ass. He did not hear my cries for help and forgiveness. I should really stop with the deaf jokes, but in this case the joke was really on me because Ky showed no mercy. I mean he isn't blind, the dude should have seen he was winning.

Also, I am pretty sure he threw a lot of illegal hits. That back shot wasn't allowed, and when your opponent is on the ground you can't kneel over them and repeatedly punch them. It sounds harsh, but it was kind of funny. I may have laughed in his face which caused him to hit me more. I said I was sorry but you know he couldn't hear me.

Anyway, after our sparring I did end up going to cheer practice.

Cheer practice was also something different. I learned it was more than just jumping around for football players.

These girls are more in shape than most of the guys at the school. First, Katerina made us run a mile. Yeah, us. She said that running would help us with boxing. After that Katerina had Ky and I spot the cheerleaders with their lifts.

I partnered up with the Powerpuff Girls. Surprisingly they were excited to see me. I made sure to greet them with sweaty hugs.

"Ew, Ty you smell gross." Aubrey whined.

"He smells like a man." Brooke said with a giggle.

I had to laugh at the girls. They were definitely an entertaining group as they began to discuss men's cologne. Their conversation was cut short when a bunch of girls started cheering with catcalls. I looked over to see that Ky took off his shirt and thanks to him being drenched in sweat his muscles were glistening. There were multiple comments about his abs and biceps thrown his way. Good thing the guy is deaf or these girls may have made him uncomfortable.

There was a display of strength when Katerina used Ky to demonstrate a lift. Ky had her in the air straight over his head with one hand.

"Pretty intense, right?" Aubrey said as she watched.

"Does he always come to cheer practice?" I asked.

"Yeah, but he'll slow down if he makes the boxing team." Erin explained "It turns out that James keeps bullying him because they are in the same weight class. Katerina says that Ky is a much better boxer."

"He looks like he will make a decent cheerleader." I said.

"You can probably talk him into a skirt." Erin joked.

I wanted to laugh, but then I remembered the earlier incident with Ky. I am still super confused about what exactly happened. Maybe the Powerpuff Girls are close to Ky and can help me out.

"Does Ky like girls?" I asked.

"Just as much as I do." Erin joked.

"You're missing out." Aubrey shot back.

Sometimes it is hard to keep up with these girls. Erin is boy crazy, while Aubrey is girl crazy, and Brooke is in love with me. How they are all friends still baffles me. How they are all my friends is even more confusing. Still I consider them friends, and I trust that they can help me out.

"Can you guys keep a secret? I kind of need advice." I told them everything. How Ky cuddled close to me during the boxing team introduction, how I went over and ripped the poster of my dad off of his wall, how Ky reminds me so much of my dad whom I hate, how I would get expelled if I don't box, and about how much I hate boxing.

The girls exchanged awkward glances with each other. I just dumped my life story and all of my insecurities on them. I understand how they must be feeling. Weird.

"That's a lot." Erin said, breaking the silence. "Have you considered just throwing the boxing match?"

"You can do that?" I asked.

"I mean it will make everyone happy. If you lose you won't make the team and since you tried out you won't get expelled. Plus it will build distance between you and Ky." Erin explained. "This is a quick solutions to your problems."

"Ky isn't a problem. My dad is my problem." I argued.

"You just said Ky reminded you of your father." Brooke pointed out.

I guess there is a little resemblance. The bright smile, the boxing, and how they both occasionally distance themselves before becoming unbearably clingy. They both force me to do things I don't want to do.

"I don't want to talk about this anymore." I mumbled.

I felt bad but the girls nodded and returned to cheer practice. When I thought no one was looking I left. Just before I got to my car I received a text.

Hey, it's Erin. I'm here if you want to talk.

How did this girl get my number?
