I'm gonna be completely honest with y'all. I watched To All the Boys I've Loved Before. And I loved it, obviously, so I watched it again. And then I thought... I could do something like this! A teen romcom! And within two days, the idea of Deaf Daisy was born.
I've always wanted to write from a d/Deaf character's point of view. I think they're extremely underrepresented in media. I'm not fluent in sign language, so I'm gonna have to do some research. If you are or know someone who is d/Deaf and I write something inaccurate, please let me know.
Please also realize that Daisy has been deaf for many years, and she is no longer angry about it. She has a sense of humor about it. I am not intending to be insensitive toward d/Deaf individuals when Daisy makes jokes about herself or her internal monologue is self-deprecating. Note that I am writing from Daisy's first person point-of-view narration. If you've journeyed with me before, you know how important representation is to me, and how important acknowledging and being checked for my privilege is to me. If I write something ignorant, CALL ME OUT!
This story deals with some mature themes, the most prevalent one being the mystery of Cannon's mother's death. In time, we'll reveal how she actually died, but for now, the rumors are swirling. Suicide is among them. If that triggers you, please be careful.
It was also shown in chapter one that Cannon smokes marijuana recreationally. This won't be extremely recurring, but it will be mentioned here and there.
I'm posting these chapters as I write them, so if any new adulty themes present themselves, I will always begin the chapter with a content warning. I will come back and update this note, as well.
I really appreciate you being here. :)
