Long, Black Cloak

Between the folds of the black and blinding night
There lies a mystery of the faint yellow light
Some say it's a ghost of some of those who died
While others say it was tears that never dried

Well I was never really one to follow the rules
Mostly because I think they're made for fools
So being the fearless idiot I'm made out to be
I entered the tattered house of hidden mystery

I took a step forward, I felt the board creak,
Alarming my senses; my heart turning weak
I wanted to shout, but lost the ability to speak
The house fulfilling its promise to those who seek

I felt a freezing cold chill run up my spine
My brain keeps screaming "this is a sign!"
But I'm already here; I might as well go on
Although at this pace, I'll be upstairs by dawn

The first thing I noticed was the rusty, old smell
The reek of death, the remnants of hell
The air around me was definitely used
Borrowed and returned, by entities; abused.

The atmosphere in the place felt so damn heavy
Like my chest was run over by an old battered Chevy
But worst of all is the feeling that someone is watching me
Though with the adrenaline rushing; there's no place I'd rather be

I started walking in a slow steady beat
The walls echoing the sound of my feet
Following, the long, narrow, smelly path,
I knew sooner or later; I'd face it's wrath

And that's when I saw the faint, yellow light,
One that matched the darkness of the night.

I followed it, blindly, into a large, abandoned room
Not knowing; til it was too late; that I'm trapped in my tomb
The doors around me closed with a loud thud
I started becoming scared; I started sweating blood

With my spine shaking; I took a look around
My hairs rising at the least audible sound
That sound happened to be that of a low hum
Accompanied by chanting and the beat of a drum

Without a single warning, I heard the door creak
The wind blowing at it: did it shriek or did it speak?
"Come inside or you'll be locked forever,
Come with us, so you and death can be together"

My feet suddenly grew a mind of their own
They started following the sound down a path of stone
At the end of the road I saw a long tilting shadow
Accompanied by that ominous faint yellow glow

6 black figures, all dressed in a long black cloak
Looked at me, their piercing gaze making me choke
My whole body trembled with immense fear
Because the evilness around them was visibly clear

They took a step towards me; I took one back
My heartbeat ricocheting off an impending heart attack
My back touched a wall; I reached a dead end
Now I'm scared as hell; I won't even pretend

They took me in and strapped me to a table
I tried to wiggle from it; but I was unable.
They started chanting, simultaneously singing
What have I done to myself? Was I even thinking?

The drum sound and humming was getting too loud
My heartbeat intensified at the gathering of their crowd
One of them came close to me and whispered in my ear
"You'll never make it out. Your end is here"

Without a warning, I was stabbed with a knife
5 sharp stabs, draining my soul of life
They each filled a cup with drops of my blood
Emptied it in a bowl, mixed it with mud

They all took a handful, one turn each
Painted the walls that reeked of bleach
Then looked at me, and continued to hum
The chant of death; of a boy so dumb

My eyes started to close, my heart beat slow
The gates of hell opened; waiting for me- I know
Waiting for both: death and I together
Promising us eternity; a lifetime together

The last thing I'll say before I black out from the pain
Is that being daring has absolutely no gain
You should never believe those stories told at night
And you should definitely never follow any type of light

I say this, because right now I am one,
Leading oblivious kids here is kind of fun.
You watch them enter with fear in their eyes
But they never exit; despite their failed tries....
