Deen (Religion) of Peace

I've been contemplating whether or not I should post this poem for such a long time because I was scared of the criticism it might receive.

Now, I post it will all the pride that I have because I came to realize that not everyone will see things your way; and that's ok.

As a muslim, I have grown accustomed to fearing how people react to that fact because the world we live in right now is definitely not an ideal utopia.

So I wrote this poem in hopes that it'll clear some misunderstandings that the mainstream media loves spreading.

Deen (Religion) of Peace.

We have all seen and heard the news
Their videos on YouTube gained millions of views
All of them bashing a religion of God
Claiming its prophet is but a fraud

They just sit in their chairs and criticize
Never having witnessed the truth with their eyes
They spread their lies, forgetting that they can't be underestimated
And as a result a religion is under fire - hated

First off let me tell you that yes, it's a religion of peace; not greed
Because only the act of smiling to another is considered a good deed
Speaking ill of others, isn't something that's tolerated
Not even if you're mad, fed up, or frustrated

How can you say that women are oppressed?
When in reality, they're nothing short of blessed.
That cover on their heads is a protection from evil
It's to defend their modesty, it's nothing medieval

You say it's a horrible religion because of the amount of people they kill?
Well take religion from them; there's mortality still
Did you know that killing is prohibited in islamic law?
That by killing one soul, you killed everyone - like an outlaw

When you judge a religion don't judge what's happening now,
You need to judge the way it was anciently practiced; what it did and didn't allow
Because people tend to break all the written rules
And in return make everyone else looks like killer fools

Islam is the type of religion where you should smile to others
Where you are obliged to respect and to love your mothers
Where you must treat EVERYONE with kindness and love
And pray five times to our God above

We're not allowed to kill
Not for the sake of the thrill
We're supposed to respect each other
Treating them with regard; like sister and brother

Islam has taught us to respect our mothers
Regardless of how it makes us seems to others
Paradise lies beneath their beautiful feet
And the blessings we receive is to connected to the way we treat

A smile should be your daily attire
And spread peace like a peaceful wildfire
Never treat anyone like they're anything less
Don't judge people by the colour of their dress

There's no hate here
But we're living in fear
But just to make things clear
Not everything is as damaged as it'll appear

As the formal greeting goes:

"Peace be upon you.
And upon you be peace."
