The First Taste

She closes the door, and minutes later she walks out fixing her dress. Not looking back she crosses the street and into the woods. She easily finds the path marked with jack-o-lanterns at every few feet. The noises of the street fade and she finds herself alone in the dark woods, with only the light of the jack-o-lanterns, and the moon to guide her way.

Fear of the dark is what keeps most alive, but her fear is nowhere to be found. After some time she starts humming a song. Her song is soon cut off by the sounds of something moving in the woods. She stops and looks around as if there is something to see, but she sees nothing. Just the woods covered in darkness. Her mind is playing tricks on her, but she hears it again. She closes her eyes, taking a deep breath stilling herself. When she opens her eyes again, she knows she is not alone.

"I know you're out there!" she shouts. "If you're trying to scare me, you might as well give it up." Her voice is stern and without fear. "I don't scare easily! Show yourself!"

Everything falls silent and she looks around again, but this time when she turns a man dressed as a pirate is standing there. His presence is unsettling.

"Where did you come from?" She asks. "I didn't see you walk up."

The man looks at her like a hungry dog looks at a piece of meat. Her heart raced, but she conceals it.

"What's a sweet girl like you doing out here all by yourself?" He walks towards her.

"Just walking to a party," she says.

"Yeah, a party." He admires her every curve.

It's clear to see this pirate means her harm. Taking a breath she starts to walk past him.

"Well, my friends are waiting for me," she says, walking past him. "I better go now."

She looks straight ahead.

"Well, I guess if you have to go, then you have to go. So I ask..." He grabs her arm pulling her back, hard. "Do you have to go?"

"Ouch! That frickin hurt!" She stumbles back holding her arm.

For a second, he puts his head down. "I'm so sorry," he says, unable to contain himself any longer he breaks out in loud laughter. "I'm not sorry at all."

With all sincerity disappearing. His fangs come out and he reveals himself to be a vampire. She begins to back away slowly. Running, not option. Fighting maybe if she can get to the knife under her skirt. The outfit didn't leave many places to hide a weapon but like a true Enforcer, she was always armed. She looks at him and smiles a bit.

"Do you want to do this?"

Rolling his eyes and getting closer. "Yes, I do," he says.

His voice is steady and his intent is clear. He is done talking now. He grabs her by the arm, but with all her might she punches him in the face. The hit takes him off guard and she makes a break for it.

"Fucking women." He says. "You never know what you are going to get."

She screams, "think," she says, trying to buy time.

He catches up to her and pulls her back by her hair. She screams and with force, she scratches his face. He feels it and lets her go again, but quickly recovers.

"Enough!" he says.

At vamp speed, he runs catching her again but this time he grabs both her arms turning her around to face him, squeezing tightly,

She struggles hard against his grip. "Stop it, you're hurting me!" she says.

"Did I not say I was sorry?" He says, laughing getting pleasure from the pain he was causing.

"What do you want from me?"

Enjoying every moment of the hunt the man chuckles. "Everything."

Her survival instincts take over and she knees him in the groin.

"Damn it!" Letting her go.

Falling to the ground face first in the dirt, she doesn't try to getaway. No, instead she turns over and kicks him in the groin again; this time harder than before. The first time was a surprise, but the nerve to do it twice is too much to bear. Seeing her chance for escape she gets up and reaches for the knife under her skirt. She stabs him in the eye and runs.

The pain shoots through his head like a train. "God my eye!" he falls to his knees. "My fucking eye!"

She runs down the path. The wind carries the sounds from the party. The noise stops her for a moment. then it hits her.

"I can get help if I can make it to the party," she says, catching her breath.

Closing her eyes she gets a beat on the direction of the noise and runs towards the music, but to her dismay; she only gets a few feet before she runs straight into a woman, a woman with short red hair and piercings. At first, she thinks the woman might help, but then the woman grabs her by the throat. She bares her fangs.

"Get your mitts off me," Eva says, struggling.

Her cries fall on deaf ears for the woman long ago lost the ability to give a damn.

"Shut up!" The woman says.

Eva grabs hold of the woman's arm and closes her eyes and in a flash, she can see the future of what is to come.

She opens her eyes. "I'm so boned," she says, looking into the woman's eyes.

Laughing, "That's something we both can agree on human," the woman says.

Squeezing harder she turns Eva around to face the man.

"Oh Alex, you always find the best party favors." The woman's sweet voice stains the air.

Still, in pain, Alex begins to heal. Shaking it off. His eye returns to normal.

"Thanks, Kim," he says, walking over to them.

The taste for revenge takes hold. "You will pay for that little girl," he says. "I'm going to kill you, painfully, slowly. By the time we're done, you're going to beg to die"

Standing her ground she screams, "Fuck you!"

Another man comes out of the woods. "Did someone say fuck?" He asks.

This one is dressed like a biker, "Did I miss the party?"

Kim glances at him. "No, not at all Jake," he says. "The party has just begun, now that we have our little party favor here."

Jake looks at her as Alex and Kim did, and within a flash, he's up close; smelling her hair.

"She's fresh, but she's no virgin," he says.

"I don't know Jake, this kind of freshness only comes from virgins, but in any case, she's going to be delicious." Kim laughs. "May I have the honor?"

Alex and Jake gesture her to go ahead.

"It's so nice to have a man around; don't you think, human?" She asks.

"I'm not a human," Eva says, "I'm warning you bitch," she says, in a stern voice. "If any of you bite me you will be sorry."

Kim likes to play with her food, but Alex and Jake aren't for the gameplay. Sensing their desire to feed on Eva she gets on with it.

"Oh well," she says. "No time to play."

This is bad and Eva knows it. It's three against one. Kim grabs her by the neck pushing her into the tree just beyond. Her back hits the tree hard and it hurts like hell, but the pain is the least of her worries. How is she going to get out of this alive and in one piece? She's been in some tough scraps but this is bad. She knows what they're going to do. They are going to drain her dry leaving her for dead. This is not the way she planed her Halloween night to go.

The pain in her back becomes a memory as Kim forces her head to the side. "Who wants the first bite?" She asks

She looks at Jake and Alex to see if they had changed their minds about letting her go first. The boys look at each other with bloodthirsty eyes.

"Ladies first," Jake says.

Alex smiles getting a little turned on.

Kim grabs her chest, trying to act all flattered. "I love Halloween," she says.

Eva screams. "Do not rip my dress!"

Kim bares a teeth gong in for the bite. She sets out to sink her fangs into Eva's neck when a man in black steps out of the darkness.

"Stop!" he says, with a stern voice cutting through the air.

The voice stops Kim dead in her tracks. Alex and Jake freeze as well.

Eva doesn't know the voice, but it's clear they do. Kim loosens her grip around Eva's throat. The man in black steps into focus. He's wearing a black cape and mask. When she sees him, the sight makes the situation go from bad to much worse. Three is severe enough, but now four. Things are looking bleak.

With strength in his voice, "She's mine!"

Alex and Jake look at Kim. The ball is in her court, and she looks at the man then back at Eva.

She's struck silent for a moment. "No, we saw her first!" she says, protesting.

"Kim," he says. "She's mine." In a more forceful tone, but she's not about to give her meal up without a fight.

"She's not yours unless she accepts the claim."

She looks at Eva and then back at him, tightening her grip. "Now listen up human," she says. "Do you accept his claim?"

Eva looks at the man, but even behind the mask, she can tell he's quite handsome. He looks right into her eyes, for some reason unknown to her, she knows he means her no harm. In the grand scheme of things, one vampire is far better than three. At least with one, she has a fighting chance. Kim loosens her grip allowing her to breathe.

"Yes," she says, gasping for air. "Yes, I do."

Those three little words bring a slight smile to the man's face and anger to Kim's,

She shouts, "Damn it!" Her blood boils. "We saw her first."

"You snooze you lose now let her go, Kim," He says, in a demanding tone.

They look at each other for a moment then she puts her head down looking away. With Alex and Jake doing the same. At first, Eva wonders why, but then she knows. Just like animals in the jungle, to the victor goes the spoils. Kim finally lets Eva go, and she slides down the tree to the ground. A still angry Kim bends down to Eva's level.

"What does he see in you?" she asks

Eva is silent, which only infuriates her.

"Human, I asked you a question; now answer me!"

Still, she says nothing. Kim kicks her raising her hand to slap her down, but within a flash, the man is there. He grabs her arm.

"Kim," he says. "You forget."

Looking into his eyes Kim tries to stand her ground.

"I was just trying to..."

He cuts her off. "...You were just trying to what?" he says, putting fear into her heart.

As before, she backs off. "Yeah, yeah I know," she says. "She's yours."

He lets go of arm and Kim retreats. Jake turns to her.

"Don't worry honey," he says. "We'll go to the party and find another hot party favor for you."

Jake notices Alex is still looking at the man.

"Come on Alex," he says. "let's go. It's a little crowded over here don't you think?"

Jake never did like a fight he can't win, but Alex doesn't want to leave after what Eva did to him. He wants to stay and make her pay, but he knows Jake is right. They are no match for the man in black. He reluctantly nods his head. The man walks towards them as they walk away until finally, they disappear just as they appeared.

The man in black stares down the path a few moments then shakes his head.

"I believe they are gone now," he says. "I feel I must apologize for their behavior, but then again it is Halloween. Still, not everything is broken."

He turns to her and stairs for a moment. "Now what am I going to do with you," he asks.

Eva pushes herself against the tree and tries to prepare herself for his next move. This is shaping up to be one Halloween she would never forget if such an option was even possible, but is he her saver or destroyer?
