(16) Classified
Mirage was avoiding me. Obviously still upset and a offended by what happened last night. I briefly spoke to Jazz about it. He shared the same thoughts as I did. Mirage can't be involved in this, but he will try to dig into it anyway. He's not stupid, he knows when I'm lying and he knows something is up. I spotted the mech driving through the hanger and I quickly blocked the Ferrari's path. He almost knocked me over. 'Dino! We need to talk, please.'
His engine revved. 'Get aside, I'm busy,' he groused. 'I mean it...'
'You're only here for the flashdrive.'
He was right. Jazz and I needed it and Mirage was not just going to hand it over. 'Fine... you can help, now let me hop in.' There was a brief pause before passenger side door opened. His holoform appeared next to me with a grumpy expression. 'If you're story is bullshit you're going to ruin all your changes on getting this flashdrive,' he warned as I opened my mouth. 'Jazz and I are investigating human activities in Decepticon related crimes. We believe that there are some humans involved in things they shouldn't be involved in. It resulted in several unexplainable murders and other gruwel acts. There's a company in downtown Washington DC that we believe is... keeping an eye on N.E.S.T and has someone giving them information. It's all about money I believe... every time they give the Decepticons some valuable information, they get a huge amount of money. I need to hack their mainframe.'
'Why am I not allowed to be part of this? This is typically something that I should be investigating!' He snapped. 'Because Optimus wanted me to do the investigation. I'm familiar with people like them... you're busy on another cold case.'
'We both are and we are both stuck until we found Frenzy. You're my partner and you're supposed to share information with me. How else can I trust you?' He snapped. 'You have to trust me... I'm pretty good at what I'm doing. You can help me get into that building and hack their main frame... or he pissed and offended all day. It's your choice, I'll find a way either way.'
He stared at me for several minutes before snorting. 'I don't know what you think you're doing. If it's based on relieving me from work or making sure I don't get hurt, but I want you to drop it. Whatever keeps you from letting me help and sharing information, I can handle the truth! I'm a grown mech, I can keep it professional.' I doubted that. The information will break him and I don't want to give my sister that fun of seeing him suffer. 'It's based on orders. You're not agreeing on my terms, so I'll find another way then.' I turned to hop out but his door locked.
'You're not leaving.'
I sat back, gazing at him. 'I never said I didn't agree,' he muttered. 'You said we have an insider?' I shrugged. Kammie is the insider, but I can't tell him that. 'I can work on that. Let me find the insider.' I was almost positive he won't find any useful information because he won't be looking in the right direction. 'In return for the flashdrive,' I replied. Mirage bit down on his lip. I'm playing and manipulating him. He will be hurt if he knows. Honestly, it doesn't matter. He will be hurt either way.
'Alright. Sure.'
I watched him open his dashboard and grab the flashdrive. 'It needs to be inserted directly into the mainframe.' I snitched it from his hands. 'Yeah, I know.' The door unlocked. 'I'll let you know what I find,' he said. I hummed and turned before closing his door. 'This is classified. Not even Kammie can know about this, got it? I swear if you—' he cut me off. 'Kammie is never interested in what I've to tell. Relax, I'll keep my mouth shut.' I shut his door and walked off.
((Mirage's P.O.V))
That went way too easy. She knows more about this insider and somehow knows I'm not able to find anything. Doesn't mean I'm going to try it. Perhaps I can prove her wrong. That would be really satisfying and give my ego a boost. I parked in the hanger and went back to my office. I looked through phone records, made a list with suspects but nothing came up. I was left with nothing by the end of the day and I regretted the fact I gave her that flashdrive.
Katy is smart. She somehow figured it all out by herself. It didn't only anger me, but also made jealous. She hasn't even been here for six months and she's already taking over my job. Perhaps it's a good thing she leaves after our case.
The door opened and Kammie walked in. I changed the tab of my computer and smiled. 'Hi, baby.' She flopped down in the chair in front of me. 'What is going on between you and my sister?' I raised a brow. 'Nothing. We are just partners, that's all,' I mumbled. 'Right...' she eyed me.
'Where were you all morning anyway? You didn't stay over last night.' She shook her head. 'Stayed at my mom's place .' She shrugged as if it was normal. With me being already agitated, didn't help the current situation. 'You should call or text next time! Don't you think I want to know?' It came out bitter and cold. Kammie shifted, sitting up straight while her muscles tensed. That's off for her. 'I'm sorry...' her voice died down.
'Seriously! Communicate for once.'
I waved my hand dismissively. 'Why are you so angry?' I shook my head. 'Katy... she's working with Jazz on something.' I shrugged. 'Really? Ok what?' I shrugged again. 'Something classified. Apparently Optimus ordered it but when I spoke to him, he didn't know about anything. It's really strange.' I tried to push my anger aside. 'Did Jazz say anything to you about it?' I shook my head. 'He doesn't want to talk to me. Only to Katy.' She ohh'ed. 'hey, Uhm... let's grab a bite tonight, in town?' She shook her head. 'Sorry, I can't.' With that open in the air, she stormed off.
