Chapter 4 - Hollow

Jungkook couldn't place what he was currently feeling. Confused, disorientated, cold and...Strange.

Hollow. Hollow was the correct word. His mind, body and strangely the back of his head felt very empty. It was such an odd feeling.

He felt misplaced, like the atmosphere around him was defying his existence.

His name...Jungkook was his name. The same name that was engraved into the stone tablet in front of him. Why did he have the same name? And why did he feel like that would be a good place to lie down?

Jungkook's limbs felt limp and lifeless and he found that he had to focus a lot more on moving a certain body part just to put it into action. He felt so slow and sluggish.

He wasn't sure how long he had been standing there for, flies not once leaving him alone. Jungkook barely remembered his journey to the cemetery. He did however remember what it felt like when he 'woke up', like it had been from a very heavy and deep slumber. He had seen a faint glow, like soft orange embers in the distance. It called to him in a female voice, in a language he could not for the life of him understand, but he knew, knew that it was telling him to wake up and walk. And like a puppet moved by strings, he rose, thrusting himself out of that cold, dark metal drawer with inhuman strength and he began walking.

One of the things that he could definitely feel was the back of his head. It felt very tender and...broken? Like it had been smashed against something. Against what, he didn't know. He had raised his hand to the back of his head and touched it with careful fingers, feeling a pattern of stitches run along the surface under his hair.

It hadn't hurt to touch it. He was struggling to feel anything at the moment. Although he breathed air into his lungs, he strangely didn't feel like he needed to. And his heart...he had held a cold hand over his chest and felt nothing from the organ. Why was that.

All the way up to the cemetery, which had taken several hours to walk, he felt drunk and in a smoggy haze which he fought to break out of. The faint consistent sound of buzzing reached his ears and he wondered why the flies seemed to be following him.

Jungkook felt weak, confused and lonely, yet he didn't feel the emotions enough to cry. He didn't feel any emotion. Not until something came over the slight dip of the hill where he stood in the cemetery. Not until he turned when he saw the familiar flicker of an orange glow approach him. And when he turned, all that dead air he breathed into his lungs was knocked out of him all at once.

Heart beating faster than you ever felt it beat, things around you seemed to disappear as you looked at the boy a few feet in front of you.

Even with the panic and excitement you had felt the moment you woke up this morning, part of you had thought all of this was just a child's fantasy and that the night before had just been a very vivid dream.

However everything was proven in its fullest as there stood in front of you was the boy you had pushed from a roof and cracked his skull open on the ground below. The boy you had (accidentally?) murdered, was there alive in front of your very eyes.

Jungkook still wore the suit he had been buried in, his skin was just as pale as when you had dug him up, however the blue of his veins had faded slightly, almost invisible. His eyes were cloudy with disorientation. What caught you off guard however was the colour of his eyes. From what used to be a deep dark brown hues were now a dead murky grey and his pupils not as black as they should be, almost like he had cataracts.

His features turned into that of amazement once he saw you standing there, just as still as him, the very definition of a deer caught in headlights. The both of you.

You weren't sure what to feel. Of course, you were thrumming with excitement and awe and disbelief, but also worry, confusion and a drop of fear.

A little voice in the back of you mind rang like a bell, reminding you that there was a very valid reason your mother didn't want you talking or asking about your bloodline. There was a reason she didn't want you anywhere near it. Like all rebellious offspring however, you chose to ignore that warning bell.

But now the most important question was highlighted in front of you. What do you do with him now?

You wanted to smack yourself face first into a stone for not even considering that aspect.

You stupid stupid stupid stupid girl (Y/n)!

What were you meant to do with him? Where could you keep him hidden? Were you going to keep him alive?

No no no, chill out for a second.

The whole reason for this is to experiment. Experiment with this new found ability of yours. You're a witch. Start acting like one.

"Who...are you?" He breathed as if you were a revelation.

What?

"What?" You said aloud, clearly confused with his own question.

Suga observed in amusement, intrigued how the situation was turning out.

"You're...You're glowing," the male spoke, his voice still in a tone of awe.

"What?" You said again. Your mind was slow at processing what Jungkook was saying, like a cog in your clockwork was loose. Or perhaps it was his own brain that was loose somewhere. Maybe you had done something wrong?

You both stared at each other in wonderment, neither knowing what to say. Until you cleared your throat and spoke up again.

"What do you mean...'I'm glowing'?"

Jungkook's eyes widened a fraction until he looked down as if he were embarrassed.

"Y-you have a weird light surrounding you...Like embers..." He mused in a trance like state.

"Jungkook...Do you remember me?"

The boy bit his lip, averting his gaze. He shook his head slowly.

Holy shit. Did he remember anything? You had been wondering what he would be like when resurrected. There had been all sorts of theories buzzing about your brain. Would he be like a classic brain-dead zombie? Would he hunger for flesh? All sorts of silly things like that, but for some reason you hadn't brought into account the chance he might not remember a thing from when he was alive.

"What, do you remember?" You questioned slowly, watching him shift side to side and pick at invisible threads on his sleeve. Bitch, you aren't shy, stop it! You mentally cursed at him. This Jungkook in front of you was nothing like the one you had dealt with. This was the exact opposite.

You were half expecting him to march over to you in a rage the moment he saw you.

"T-that, my name is...Jungkook?" He mumbled just loud enough for you to hear. He looked up again and added, "And that you're glowing."

"I still don't know what he means by this...'glow'," you muttered.

"He probably means that in a literal sense, (Y/n)," Suga stood in at last, tilting his head up at you. "As in he's the only one who can see this glow because you're like a beacon to him. Like a master and servant relationship, you gave his life back, therefore you're the only one he really sees as important, he must serve you. That's what I guess this 'light' is all about. He'll always know how to return to you if he gets lost because I suspect he can probably see that glow around you from miles away."

You listened to the feline carefully, soaking up his wisdom like a sponge. You still had to wonder how the cat knew so much.

"...Can you see a glow?"

The cat shook his head in response.

"Why do you think this power is so sort after?" He began, growing annoyed at your constant naivety and ignorance around the topic. Though like you had told him repeatedly, you hadn't really the environment to learn about your own race. "Its dangerous. Because you can control whatever you bring back. Try giving him instructions. Tell him to jump in front of a car. I bet you he'll do it."

"I'm not going to do that," you objected firmly.

The cat's golden eyes flashed mockingly. "Why? Because you already killed him once?" he said snidely.

You didn't answer.

"What would it matter if he died again? He's meant to be dead anyway."

"Suga, you say another word I'll donate you to a cat cafe where I'll leave you for dead," you growled at the feline.

Suga's back arched and his hackles shivered at the thought, but he backed down once he saw the menacing look in your eyes. He was prodding at a sore spot in you and he knew it.

For some reason you suddenly imagined that Suga might have been a snake in another life. There was just something about him that gave you that feeling...Perhaps all cats were once snakes, they sure seemed like it sometimes. They were quick like a snake, cunning like a snake and devious, like snakes.

Such perfect familiars for witches.

Jungkook only stood there in confusion, gaze flicking between you and the black cat that sat beside you, meowing up at you, and you answering back at it like you were having a conversation.

The brunette opened his mouth timidly to say something but closed it as he winced in pain. He grabbed at his stomach as it twisted uncomfortably in his body. It began to grow quite painful and a quiet groan rose up his throat and left his lips.

"So you're saying he'll follow without question?" You asked, failing to notice Jungkook's discomfort as you conversed with Suga. "Anything I raise from the dead will?"

"In theory," Suga replied raising a paw to lick it clean from a speck of mud.

"U-uh umm-"

You turned to look at the older boy, your brow furrowing. "What's wrong?"

"I-I don't feel so good..." he replied weakly, swaying in his place slightly.

And suddenly he keels over and vomits, emptying out his guts of what you could only assume was embalming fluid onto the grass.
