Jacob seemed to be fairing well and while, I was still concerned as bullet wounds don't just go away, I didn't expect him to croak on me or anything like that. He didn't wear a seatbelt, instead he laid across the backseat with his head in my lap. I didn't mind, as long as he wasn't further damaging his shoulder by putting pressure on it, he could do whatever.

My head was full of thoughts and as usual, Jacob was the one to snap me out of it.

"So, Locke, tell us about your brother. What are we to expect when we meet him?" Jacob asked, not quite fully awake, although not close to sleep, but still smiling. He was in a relaxed state, saving his energy.

"Yeah, Erica, tell us about the squirt we're about to meet." Nicole yelled from the driver's seat. She was getting good at driving, even though I didn't totally feel comfortable with her driving.

I smiled. "Oh I wouldn't call him a squirt if I were you. He's the same as as you, Nic. Probably a bit taller too, not by much." I tried to picture him as I spoke. Red hair, like me, his sort of wavy, though his was boarding an almost brown like Dad's. Freckles like me, but blue eyes instead of green. A bit of a square face, and he'd always been scrawny for his age. I couldn't wait to get back to him. "I taught him to roller skate when he was six. He'll never admit it but there's almost nothing he'd rather do than skate down the sidewalk on an autumn day. Dad absolutely banned us from roller skating inside because once we scuffed up the kitchen floor practicing." I chucked.

I didn't even realize that I was playing with Jacob's hair, tangling my fingers in his locks, which he normally kept such an intense care of, but were currently looking like a mess thanks to the day's events. I hadn't helped.

It seemed to relax him though, as he was almost ready to drift off into a peaceful nap. I couldn't blame him. I was exhausted too and it was hardly late in the day.

"He loves anything and everything horror. Especially zombies. He was the one who told me about the outbreak in the first place, and well, I obviously didn't believe him. We used to binge iZombie together. I... I miss him." I sighed.

"We'll be there soon." Nicole reassures next, although it wasn't exactly reassuring coming from her. "He sounds like a real dork, you know."

"He is. I can't wait for you to meet him."

To see my brother and my uncles again... It was as far away as a fairytale before. But now, electricity seemed to burn through my chest as we crawled over the hills, with the little town in the distance.

Soon I'd be able to see all of them.

I just didn't know what that would mean for my new travel companions. And frankly... I didn't want to think about it. Not yet.
