Classic Road Trip Sign #2

"You look like crap." Jacob said, after finding me on the floor the next morning.

I had been the last to wake up.

I gritted my teeth. "I'd would have slept better if someone hadn't stolen my bed."

Jacob glanced around. "Oh yeah! This isn't my room."

Really... You don't say?

Nicole stood by the door, bags packed with Callie at her side. "Will you two sleeping beauties hurry up so we can get back on the road? Geez..."

"You know we could have shared the bed-"

I threw a pillow at his face. Callie giggled. Nicole simply rolled her eyes, glancing at her watch for no apparent reason."

"Well someone's immature." Jacob responded.

"Yes, it's you." Monotone took over my voice.

Jacob emphasized my point by throwing the pillow back at me, clobbering me in the face.

I was not amused. But for someone who wasn't necessarily a morning person I seemed to handle it well.

"Let's go. I think we've left enough dead bodies at the inn for one night."

Jacob laughed.

Back on the road, our little group was quiet... For the first two minutes.

"So how was your little joy ride last night?" Jacob asked.

I whipped around to face him. "How did you-"

"I felt you take my keys out of my pockets. And there's gas in the tank."

"You knew and you just let me take your keys? Why didn't you go to your own bed?" I hissed.

"For one, I was tired. And also I knew you wouldn't ditch us."

I didn't buy that for a second. How could he know before even I knew? Didn't add up.

Likely he was just saying that when he was really just being lazy and didn't want to get up last night. Although... Ducky meant so much to him, that didn't add up either...

"Not cool, Locke." Nicole grumbled. "Although, given the chance I guess I would have hit the road too. Better than to stay with these clowns."

"Hey..." Callie tried to sound offended, but it came off more as disappointed. Probably because the girl had been left behind by everyone she knew before a group of strangers took her in.

"I just... Well I couldn't leave you! I can't drive so obviously, uh, you're my ticket out of here." I admitted.

A tilted grin graced Jacob's face. "Uh huh. Personally I think you like us, but whatever you say."

"What's there to like?" Nicole said in jest.

"You wound me, Nic!" Jacob placed a hand on his heart as if shot.

"I'm glad you stayed." Callie piped up.

"Thanks, kid." I mumbled under my breath. She heard and she smiled.

An hour of silence later...

"I can't take it! Ughhh, let's play a game or something." Nicole surprised us by saying. Even she was getting restless.

"What do you have in mind?" I asked.

Callie spoke up. "Ooh ever play Fortunately/Unfortunately?"

"F/U, yes." Jacob held back a snicker.

I rolled my eyes, looking behind me to watch Callie and Nicole. "How do you play?"

"It's a story game. The first person says fortunately followed by a phrase then another player must do the same using whichever word the first player didn't. For example: Fortunately I get to go to Spaceland, but the next player might be like: Unfortunately it's been taken over by aliens. Get it?" Callie explained.

"Zombies more like it." I stated.

Jacob shook his head. "Locke, don't be a buzzkill."

"Just being a realist."

"I'll go first." Jacob said. "Fortunately we're going to go to Anaconda."

Boring. Had he ever actually been to Anaconda? It wasn't a good thing.

"Unfortunately, we are going to Anaconda." I muttered.

"Boooooo! Get creative, Locke!" Nicole grinned as she gave me an exaggerated thumbs down from the backseat.

"Show her how it's done then." Callie stuck out her tongue at Nicole.

"Fortunately, we won't be there long." Nicole said.

"Unfortunately, it's been taken over by giant, singing tomatoes who make you dance if you want to drive through!" Jacob said, laughing like a maniac. He was insane.

"Fortunately, the giant, singing tomatoes like me because their leader is my best friend." Callie smiled.

It went on to get weirder and weirder. It actually almost felt like a regular road trip. We'd reach Montana today. I'd get to see Jake today.

I could live with this.

You know the drill. Comment, pretty please! If you've got anything to say and I hope you enjoyed this chapter! Thanks for reading.
