9. Date Night

Neil and Juliet

Charlie and Gwen

Todd and Mary Anne

Knox and Stacy

At Mary Anne's house, all the girls are getting ready for their date with the boys. With the anticipation of how the day is going to be they know for sure they are going to have the best night ever.

" I hope Todd likes me. This is my first real date, and I want to make a good impression on him." Mary Anne said as she worked on her makeup.

" Don't worry him. He'll be more worried about making a good impression on you. I think when you both talk to each other you two will be just fine." Julie said as Stacy worked on her hair.

" What about Charlie? Is there anything I need to worry about? Gwen asked.

" Other than he might be a player? No. Gwen, are you sure about going out with Charlie? There are other guys in the group who would be better than him." Juliet said concerningly.

" I'll be fine. I'm a big girl. Besides we need to focus on getting you together with Neil." Gwen said as she put her makeup on.

" Right. Like you've never been in love?" Stacy said sarcastically.

" Who said I was in love with Neil?"

" You did." All the girls said to Juliet.

" I did not. Besides I don't know if Neil likes me anyway."

" Yes, he does." And I do know because you forgot to mention Neil saw you as an Angel. On opening day of school." Stacy said as Juliet felt off guard.

" *Gasp* No!" Gwen and Mary

" Who told you that?" Juliet asked as her face was burning up.

" Knox did." Stacy smiled victoriously.

" He is dead meat." Juliet was furious.

"*Squeals* Man this is going to be an amazing night. Starting with you looking amazing for Neil." Gwen said as she brought over her makeup and started working on Juliet.

At 5 pm sharp the doorbell rang and Mrs. Miller opened the door to see the boys holding flowers for the girls.

" You must be the Welton boys. Come on in. The girls are finishing getting ready. It's wonderful you boys have been taking good care of Juliet. She speaks very highly of you."

" I hope not too highly Ma'am." Neil said as he felt bashful.

" She's been a real good friend to all of us." Todd said as he felt nervous about Mary Anne for the first time. " I'm Todd by the way."

" Nice to meet you, Todd. And what are your names?" Mrs. Miller asked.

" Neil."

" Charlie."

" Knox."

" Well, it's wonderful to meet you, boys. I apologize my husband couldn't make it, he's running late from work."

" It's no problem, Ma'am."  Charlie said as he waited for the girls to come down.

"I wonder what's taking the girls so long. I'll go check on them." Mrs. Miller went upstairs to check on the girls but once she got to the door, the door opened to find the girls in their outfits and all set to go on their date.

Each of the girls went downstairs one at a time and each of the boys was stunned by how beautiful the girls looked.

" Wow. Stacy, you look terrific. These are for you." Knox said as he gave Stacy a bouquet of pink and white lilies.

" My favorite. You remember, how sweet." Stacy smelled the flowers and thought Knox was a wonderful man.

" Hey." Gwen said smoothly.

" Hey." Charlie said as well, though he thought Gwen was gorgeous. " These are for you. I didn't know what kind of flowers you like." Charlie gave Gwen a variety bouquet which made her smile.

" They're lovely. Thank you."

" Uh, you must be Mary Anne. I hope you like these." Todd gave Mary Anne a bouquet of white daisies.

"*Gasp*" Oh Todd they're perfect. How did you know I love daisies?" Mary asked as she smelled the flowers.

" Lucky guess I suppose." Todd said as he felt shy but tries to make a good impression.

Juliet watches her friends enjoying their time with the boys then looks over to Neil looking very handsome as she feels all giddy inside.

" Hey, Neil. You look great."

" Thank you, and you look wonderful. These are for you." Neil said as she gave Juliet a bouquet of white roses.

" Awe, Neil thank you so much."

" How about I take the flowers as you all head out, and boys I want the girls back no later than 8:30 pm. Am I clear?" Mrs. Miller said as she was serious about it and took the girl's flowers in her hands.

"Yes, Ma'am." The boys said together.

" Good now have fun."

The boys leave the house and walk toward the soda shop together. It took about a five-minute walk for the group to arrive at the soda shop and go inside to find a table big enough to fit everyone. The boys pulled out chairs for the ladies to sit first then sat next to them.

Juliet sat between Neil and Mary Anne.

" Your date is really cute. No wonder you like him." Mary said to Juliet quietly.

" I'm taking things slow. I don't want to get my hopes up. How do you like Todd?" Juliet asked.

" He's perfect. Thank you so much for this."

" You're welcome."

" So Charlie, what made you want to see me?" Gwen asked him.

" Once I heard about having a blind date, I couldn't miss the opportunity and now that I have met you, I can sense you are a strong, and independent woman that lives by her own rules." Charlie said truthfully.

Gwen is impressed by Charlie's words and can see he's telling the truth. She's seen enough guys to know if they are lying and Charlie is no liar on this date.

" Well, I do have to say you have a way with words Charlie and if things go well tonight, maybe take me out on a real date?"

Charlie smirked as he was pleased to hear sure does wanted this date to go amazing. " I'll make sure there are no double dates, and I would like to meet your parents as well."

" I'm sorry if I'm not talking much. I've never been on a date before." stood said as he felt embarrassed.

" No it's alright, I think it's sweet. I've only been on one other date before and this is much better than the last one already." Mary tells Todd.

" Really? How bad was it?"

" Let's just say my date arrived an hour late, and also he smelled of perfume." Mary explains simply.

" Wow, I'm surprised how a sweet girl like you would go through that. Annie, I umm is it okay if I call you Annie?"

Mary smiled and nodded softly. " Yes, I like that very much."

" Good, because I like you already and I will let you know if I'm ever running late, it's because I want to make sure everything is perfect for you."

" Well Todd, I just want you to be yourself. And if you're shy all the time then we'll keep things simple and take things step by step. Does that sound okay with you?" Mary asked Todd as she wanted to have a chance to get to know him.

" I think that would be great. Maybe after this date, do you want to get some ice cream or go to the movies with me?" Todd asked Mary

" I would love that." Mary said happily as she couldn't wait for her second date with Todd already.

" It looks like our happy couple is going well. Juliet has been the older sister to all of us. even when she moved to London, she would check in on us every few weeks. She has always been there for us while we tried to be there for her, but not by much. Can you please look out for her?" Stacy asked Knox as she felt helpless.

" Don't worry I promise I'll help her out. Besides, I think my best friend is helping her more now." Knox said as he looked back at Neil and Juliet together looking all happy.

" So how do you like school so far?" Neil asked Juliet.

" I do have to say now I understand what you guys and my father went through here, and I feel helpless at times."

" Why?"

" Because every time I put my full effort into my work, I'm not taken seriously enough, and the High Society tea was terrible."

" What? What happened?" Neil started to feel worried.

" Well, the other day on my history paper I got a B- because part of my paper shouldn't have possible ideas on what could have changed to make things better or at least different, but no. The teacher thought it was best to stay on the structure of how to be the proper soldier or worker that had made America instead of an idealist. Then yesterday at the tea, I was talking to some of the wives about how lucky they feel about being married, which I want to happen someday, but when I talked to them about if they wanted to go to college what they wanted to do in life, all of them were quiet and looked confused. Once they started talking about how they wouldn't have time to go to school because they are married and raising their kids. I just... I don't know what to do, Neil." Juliet explained as she tried not to tear up but then felt Neil's hand on hers.

" Hey, it's going to be okay. I'm glad I have met you. It's nice to know not everyone is the same because if we were the same then everything would be so boring." Neil tells her truthfully and doesn't want Juliet to be sad and Juliet is glad Neil knows the right thing to say.

After getting settled in the waiter comes by the table and asks for their orders. Neil takes out his glasses and reads the menu as the girls notice why Juliet likes Neil with his glasses on.

" Wow, Juliet you were right." Mary said as Juliet blushed and shook her head.

" Right about what?" Neil asked.

" Nothing." Juliet said as she lied.

Gwen couldn't take it anymore and gave the couple a push.

"Every time you wear your glasses it makes her stomach filled with butterflies." Gwen tells Neil.

" Gwen!" Stacy said

Juliet felt so humiliated. She quickly gets up from her seat and heads outside but Neil hurries over to her.

" Juliet wait!"

" I'm sorry I can't do this. Neil this was a bad idea this date should not have happened." Juliet said as she kept walking away but then felt her hand being held to stop Juliet in her tracks.

" I'm not sorry because I'm glad this date happened. Juliet, I wanted to go out with you since the moment I saw you."

" You have? I mean with what Knox said on opening day, but when you first saw me?"

" Yes. I knew when I first saw you you're special Juliet. I would have looked for you after the ceremony, but when I heard you were going to be a student at school I felt so lucky that I could have a chance to get to know you better, and after these past two weeks I know in my heart that you are the one."

" Are you about this Neil, we've only known each other for two weeks."

" I've never been more sure, Juliet." Neil said as he came closer to Juliet and put something special in her hand.

" *Gasp* Your Welton pin? Neil, I don't know what to say."

" Then let me. Juliet Keating will do the honor of being my girl and go steady with me?" Neil asked Juliet as she felt tears down her cheeks and smiled happily.

" Yes." Juliet smiled as she hugged Neil in her arms for a moment then put Neil's pin on her dress.

Juliet felt the cold wind and tried to warm her arms. " We should head back inside."

" We should come on." Neil said as he held Juliet close in his arms since his sweater was keeping her warm for a moment once they got back inside the soda shop everyone cheered for the both of them since they saw the whole thing from the window.

Juliet felt her cheeks burning up and hid her face for a moment then sat back down at the table with the rest of the group.

Juliet looks over to Neil and smiles at him happily. " You wanna know something funny?"

" What?"

" When Romeo first saw Juliet at the masquerade it was a day of celebration, and when we met it was the same thing in a way of celebrating starting a new year of school. But we both knew we wanted to be at each other's side. Neil, I'm so happy to be with you, but once we head back to school, I would like to talk to my dad about this. He may be our English teacher, but he's still my dad and he'll worry about me."

" Darling, I already talked to him about this days ago. I would never go behind your parent's back and ask you to be my girl." Neil tells Juliet as he holds her hand and kisses it softly.

Juliet felt relieved to hear this news. " Sorry, this is my first relationship, and I'm terrified and excited at the same time. Wait... did you just call me darling?"

Neil smiled as Juliet was being really cute right now. " Yes, I did. Why is it bad?"

" No, I love it. Mon Amor." Juliet said as she felt Neil kiss her forehead softly then focused on the rest of the group as the date went amazing.
