The Song (BarryVosloo)
Lord Goines was an aristocrat living in the high society of old England in 1756. His wife died of consumption a few months earlier, but he still had his three beautiful daughters.
It was a bright sunny afternoon and Eva, the oldest of the three, sat outside in the garden, enjoying the cool summer breeze.
"Sister, why do you always sit her on your own?" Asked Madelyn, the middle sister, as she walked towards Eva.
"My sweet sister. This was mother's garden. How she always used to tend to her previous tulips," Eva said smiling.
"Yes, she was always fond of the garden," Madelyn said as she sat down.
"Sisters! Father is looking for us!" Yelled Josephine, the youngest of the sisters. Eva and Madelyn looked at her, then at each other.
"Let us not keep him waiting," Eva said as she stood up.
Later in the conservatory, Mister Goines and his daughters all sat around a metal frame table. "My daughters. I have decided to send you three to Nova Scotia," mister Goines said sternly.
"But father!" Josephine exclaimed.
"Father, we simply can not go. All our friends are here. As well as our school," Madelyn pleaded.
"The decision has been made and I have instructed the help to pack your suitcases. Your ship, the Winston, will be leaving tomorrow morning. Best you not miss it," mister Goines said and stood up from the table. The three sisters just stared blankly at each other.
The next morning, the sisters arrived at the port by carriage. They climbed out and looked down the pier. "That ship is magnificent," Eva said as they walked down the pier.
"Ladies, step on board!" Shouted a well dressed man from atop the boarding plank. "You are Lord Goines daughters?" The man asked.
"Indeed we are captain," Madelyn replied as they walked up the plank and on-board the ship.
"Welcome to the Winston ladies, I am captain Croxly and your father asked me to take special care of you," Croxly said.
"I am sure he did," Eva mumbled to herself.
"Ladies, meet my daughter, Mary," Croxly said as a tall thin girl approached them.
Mary and the three sisters got to know each other over the next several weeks as the Winston was en route to Nova Scotia.
One night, the girls sat in a candle lit dining hall after dinner and exchanged stories like they did most nights. But this night, there was an eerie feeling in the air.
All four girls fell silent when they heard the deck bell ringing frantically.
"Ladies, go to your cabins. I will find out what is going on," Mary said and ran out the dining hall.
Outside on deck, Mary found her father asked, "father? What is happening?"
"You need to go below deck. We are being attacked by a pirate ship. Captain LaFleur and his crew!" Croxly exclaimed.
A cannon ball flew through the air and tore the main mast from the deck. One of the spars came flying down and hit Mary on the head, she fell unconscious and slid across the deck.
After the attack, the Winston was severed right down the middle and sinking. The three sisters sat in their cabin and held on to their bunks. They saw water pouring in through the large cracks.
"Will it hurt? Drowning?" Eva asked and grabbed Josephine's hand as all three of them watched the rising water.
Suddenly, the water started to swirl and rise up in the shape of a man.
The sisters were paralyzed with fear when they heard a voice coming from the water, "you can die tonight. Or you can sing. Sing for me and bring me more ships. Hear me for I am Poseidon and you are my SIRENS."
