31 | Overgrown Lizard

I stare up at the gate that surrounds the massive property, trying to find a way around it but the only way is over.

Fuck, I wish I could fly.

Flicking my gaze back over my shoulder, I stare at the house - sorry mansion and scowl.

Of course the arrogant prick has money too.

Muttering swear words under my breath, I begin climbing, for once thanking Charles for being so tight with my training.

It takes minutes for me to scape the gate and drop to the other side, landing in a crouch before straitening and staring at the forest that boxes the mansion.

I don't look back as I begin running, having no idea where I'm going but hoping eventually I'll find somewhere that points me towards town. Or anything.

Sticks break under my foot falls, the leaves rustling with the trees secrets, wind whispering in camaraderie with the rest of Mother Nature.

I ignore it all, my focus intent in front of me, placing one foot inforky of the other and not thinking about the three guys I left back at the house.

Not thinking about what me leaving will do to them.

And definitely not thinking about what it will do to me.

My heart pound in my chest, but it's more then just from them run, it's like it's wants to claw its way out of the cage I've shoved it into and crawl back to the boys.

I grit my teeth and move faster. Blanking my mind of all thoughts of them.

This is for the best.

A pounding follows my footfalls, beating in time with each thump of my heart. The sound grows louder, insistent, the wind humming along with the noise.

I risk a glance behind me but there's nobody there, my eyes tracing the gaps in the trees before I glance up, seeing sunshine for just a moment before in peace the gap in the leaves behind.

The sound doesn't dull, if anything it grows louder, like hoof beats. Like someone is following me.

Please tell me the rich fuck does not have horses. It'd be just my luck to be caught by a man on horse back, like some type of damsel.

The creature in my chest crawls from whatever darkness she came from and makes herself known, shadows beginning to dance around my fingertip's like wisps.

I glance up again, my eyes drawn to the sky when darkness descends.

The sunshine is blotted out and I stall to a stop, narrowing my eyes at the creature that blocks the sun. From myths and legends and books I hardly got to read is a creature straight from a nightmore.

Dragon.

Or wyvern.

Whatever the fuck it is, I'm not staying around to find out what it wants.

Now the tell tale sound of its wings hits my conscience, the noise that had been pounding in time with my heart.

I scan the tress for another escape, choosing one at random and running.

• • •

The dragon has been following my every move, banking right when I make a turn, its head twisting to flare at me through the gnarled branches.

I kind of want to throw a shadow at it and see what happens but I don't even know if my aim will be true, I don't even know what I can do.

I glance up again, tracking the skies for the dark scaled creature, not watching where I'm going and then there it is, right there above me, its keen eyes narrowed on me.

And here I am, an idiot, standing in a massive clearing staring back at it.

My creature almost purrs in my chest and fear wracks through me when the oversized lizard descends.

Not having another choice, I call on my shadows to protect me.

Let's hope I know how to point and shoot.

Shadows dance from my fingertips, sinking into the glass beneath my feet, decaying anything in its path before a wall shoot's up between me and the dragon, faint enough that I can see through it, like a sheer curtain of ebony.

The dragon cocks its head at me, huffing what sounds suspiciously like a laugh before poking its massive head through the shadows and glaring down at me.

I guess hoping I'd electrify the beast would be too much to ask.

With one touch of his leather skin, my shadows sink back into me, even when I try too call them forward again.

I guess control was also too much to ask.

I stumble back a step, staring at the ground for some type of weapon, like maybe a rock to throw at the beasts eye to blind it.

The dragon takes a step forward and I flash a glare its way.

"Stay back, you overisized lizard!"

A chuckle has my head turning for a fraction of a second behind me, fishing Malachi there with a grin in his face, staring at the scene, arm up as he approaches.

"Stay back." I tell, keeping my focus on the dragon.

"Fancy trick of the light you've got there." I ignore his tone, keeping my gaze on the dragon.

"Malachi, get back." I utter again, slowly taking a step back until can see both Malachi and the dragon.

I risk flicking my gaze towards Malachi, seeing Killian approaching slowly and I blink, sure I'm losing my fucking mind because there's two of them.

I take a step back, seeing all three- four of them in my vision and scan the trees, waiting for Kade to make his presence known but he doesn't come forward.

"What the hell is happening?" I yell, staring at the three . . . Twins.

Confusion and anger rock through me and I move until my back is to the trees, my eyes jumping between the dangers in firms of me, gaze latching onto the two Killian, Malachi grinning like a devil and the dragon that silently watches everything. "Where's Kade?"

One of the Killian's steps forward, monopolising my attention. He smiles sadly. "This isn't how we wanted you to find out."

"Where's Kade?" I repeat.

Malachi chuckles, "just hanging around."

I look at the dragon, finding keen eyes watching me back, the same shade of the eyes that watch me when I fight, and when he thinks I don't notice.

The same eyes that despise me.

"What the-"

The dragon lands, softer than I would have expected and transforms into a body I wish I didn't know all too well.

A very naked body.

"I can't believe you called him an oversized lizard." Malachi says, smirking over at a naked and fuming Kade.

"What the hell is happening?" I step back when Malachi takes a step forward, only being stopped by one of the Killian's placing a hand on his shoulder, halting him.

"You can shadow weave." Kade says, staring at me with narrowed eyes I'm all too used to.

"I can what?"

"What are you?" He growls.

"What am I?" I say hysterically, "what the fuck are you guys?" I wave a hand to all four of them, still weird out by seeing the two identical Killian's staring back at me.

"We're different." One of them says.

"No, really?" I say sarcastically, going back to a defensive position.

"How long have you had powers? How long have you been able to shadow weave?" Kade snaps, stalking forward until he bearing down on me.

Even naked, he can be fucking terrifying.

Even if I do want to look down just to see if his ego really is for a reason he can live up to and have to stop myself from showing such weakness.

"Shadow what?"

Shadows spout from the ground, wrapping around the four of us like a blanket. A suffocating, terrifying blanket.

"This? How long have you been able to do this?"

I blink and the shadows are gone, sinking back to whatever hellish realm they came from.

"I can't do that."

"You can do something." Kade snaps.

I blink, realising those shadows came from him, remembering how he and Malachi have them and I stare between the two of them.

"Can you also turn into a dragon?"

Malachi shakes his head.

"Will I turn into a dragon?"

Kade scoffs, "if you could, you would've already. You're not a drake."

"What the hell am I then?"

Kade looks contemplative for a moment before looking lost. "I don't know."
