20 | Staking A Claim

Killian slips up beside me at my locker.

His eyes move up and down, lingering on the spot that I'd been stabbed last night before he nods his acknowledgment.

"How you feeling?" He asks just as the warning bell for class ricochets through the hall.

"Good." I shut my locker, and turn down the hall, beginning to walk to my class. "Can hardly feel it now, only when I move too much."

Killian is a silent strong shadow at my side as we walk down the hall, weaving between rushing students and I turn my gaze to him. "Haven't you got class?"

"Yep." He continues walking the wrong way to his class.

"Isn't it on the other side of the building."

"It was." He replies before coking to a stop at a classroom door, my classroom door.

"You're not in this class." I stare, crossing my arms tightly over my chest and narrowing my eyes at him.

"I am now." He takes my elbow and guides me in, stopping in front of Malachi who eyes us wearily.

"I saved you a seat, baby girl."

Killian takes said seat and Malachi scowls before turning to the kid at his other side and barking at him to move.

He does, and Malachi slides in to take his place.

He pats the seat he just occupied and I slide into it, sandwiched between the twins.

Feeling eyes on me, I look up, gaze connecting to Sienna's.

She looks between me and Killian with shrewd eyes and anger rocks through me, remembering her role in last nights incident.

"Hi Killian." She waves and begins walking over, the heels she wears snapping against the ground. Placing two hands on the table infringed of him, she leans down, smiling at him.

The feeling that always seems to encampsss the room when Sienna is in it slips over me, like a blanket. My eyes are drawn to her, enraptured and I shake my head, pulling myself out of it.

"There's an assignment coming up. You can be my partner." She says the words like it's a blessing to partner with her and Malachi chuckles beside me.

Neither one of them seems to be affected by the feeling and for a second I wander if I'm crazy.

She doesn't look to him, though I've noticed she never does. Avoiding Malachi at all costs.

"No, thank you." Killian's says, look straight ahead and past her.

"What?" She breathes out, "you need a partner."

"I have one." He mutters and then next thing I know there's a hand placed on my thigh possessively. I look down, dumbstruck at the large hand splayed on my leg, thumb dimpling the flesh of my inner thigh as he squeezes.

When I look back up, Siennas hard gaze is on me.

She huffs and walks away, heels clacking the whole way back to her seat at the front of the class just as the teacher walks in, instantly surrounded by her posse plus a few more.

Every day she seems to add another body to her growing harem.

Killian doesn't move his hand, his hard gaze watching her closely, jaw ticking and I realise he knows she had something to do with yesterday too, that his anger isn't out of nowhere.

Another hand rests on my thigh and I look to my other side, finish Malachi gaze on me, then flicking to his brother before settling on my again.

He squeezes my thigh and my stomach swoops, gaze dropping to see the both of their hands on my thighs.

"Okay, I think you've proven your point." I say to both of them and Malachi laughs.

"Not making a point." He mutters, patting my leg. "I'm staking a claim."

Then he's gone and a second later so is Killian's hand.

The teacher begins calling out name and I realise I hadn't heard a word she'd said since she walked in, mind too preoccupied with the two guys at my side.

"Noah Doherty, you're with Liam-"

"I think your list is wrong miss." Malachis voice is unmistakable as he interrupts and I turn my attention to him. "It should say Noah is with me-" he pauses, sitting up straighter in his seat. "And my brother."

"There's only pairs, Mr. Hawthorne."

"We have an odd number in the class, it'll be easier for Killian to be put with me, since we dorm together, you understand?"

She fiddles with the papers on her desk before nodding, "Very well. Killian, Malachi and Noah, you guys are together."

My heart thumps double time in my chest.

Malachi settles back in his seat, a lazy air about him as he relaxes like he's on the beach and not in a classroom.

"Do you always threaten teachers to get what you want?"

"No." Malachi says with a smug smile. "I rarely have to threaten."

I breathe out, willing my heart to stop its incessant thumping and my creature to stop begging to be let out.

My hand clenches, the only thing seeming to stop my shadows from reacting to the twins touch and coming out to caress them back.

• • •

The twins follow me from class to class, slipping beside me like I need two bodyguards at every waking hour.

My heart thumps with every inhale and exhale, beating double time everytime they accidentally rub against me.

Like now, when Malachis hand skims my thigh as he moves past me in the food line, grabbing at a slice of pizza before reposting it on my plate and then grabbing one for himself.

"You're feeding me now?"

"Do you not want me to?" Those blue eyes of his settle on me, an intensity in them I didn't expect.

I blink and shake my head. "No, it's fine."

"Good." Then he goes back to filling my plate up with so much food even I might struggle to consume it all.

With arms aching at the weight of my now very full tray, I turn and begin the short track to our table.

And then I stop when a body sidles in front of me, chiselled chest bumping into the tray and almost causing me to drop it.

I would've said something, probably would've found a way to stab my fork into Tristan smug face without dropping all the food but I don't have to.

Kade is there is seconds, crowding me back into the safe embrace of the twins as my heart thumps at the triangle they've formed around me

Yet all I feel is confusion as Kade comes to my rescue . . . Again.

Although it could have to do with the fact that the person he's up against is his greatest enemy apparently.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend I guess.

Tristan grins, the action as slimy as his personality. "What's wrong Kade, afraid I'm going to steal her out from under you?"

I scoff at the same time as Kade and if I didn't have Malachi's hand smoothing its way up my spine I'd probably be insulted that Kade scoffed at the thought of being with me.

"She's not mine." He says the words like they're poison and Tristan's eyes light up as he looks toward me and the twins by my side.

"Is she not? You know as well as I that that may not be true."

There's an undercurrent to his words that I can't understand, the knowledge in his gaze more then even I can predict.

"She's not our bon-" Kade stops himself, "she's nobody."

Malachis grip on me grows stronger and he laughs, wrapping an arm around my shoulder and steering me away. "Whatever you say Kade."

I ignore the whole conversation as Killian appears at my side and we walk for the table, leaving Kade and Tristan behind us.
