Chapter 3

A figure came crashing through the now-broken door, and suddenly the screams of terror from the outside because clearer. Dust clouded their vision, but Andrew raised his mop-stick high as both Zena and Jennifer stayed behind him. An exclaim of frustrastion came from the figure as something— no, someone— lunged at them, screeching. Whoever it was that lept at them met their end as their body got impaled by a long, shiny rod.

Was that a sword?

A watery noise of pain came from them as the figure, seemingly female, pulled the sword out with a hefty force. She then proceeds to stab at the head, doing so for a couple times. The trio, now traumatized for life, watched in horror as she does so.

She turned, looking at them with narrowed eyes. The girls froze from her stare and Andrew kept the mop-stick up, ready to fight if needed. The figure just stared at them until the dust faded away and she could see clearly. Her eyes widened in disbelief. "Guys?! The hell are you doing here??"
It took them a moment, but they recognized that ponytail and purple shirt anywhere.
"Holy shit— Marie??" Zena exclaimed.
Andy drops his arm to let the girls walk over to their friend.
"Fucking shit dude, you fucking killed somebody." Jen winced, looking away from the dead body.
She puts a hand on her mouth, feeling something acidic threatening to come up. God, that stench is disgusting. "Ugh, i'm gonna be sick—"

More loud screeching came from outside, bloodied screams echoed that made their blood run cold. Andrew turned towards Marie. "What the fuck is going on?!"
She paled, sword dropping slightly. "You didn't see? I thought—"
More screeching broke through the conversation, but it seemed to be getting closer. The growls that followed sounded watery, almost like someone was making a noise with liquid in their mouths.
The dark-haired girl shook her head. "Nevermind that. I'll explain when we find a safe place to hide."
She looks over to Zena and Jennifer. "Zena, Jen, do either of you guys have tools that could double as weapons?"
Both shook their head.
"The school really tries hard to keep weapons off-campus afterall." Zena replies, crossing her arms.
Marie bit on the inside of her cheek, looking around the girl's bathroom for anything to use.

Nothing, of course. And the sounds were getting louder.

"Agh, we can't stay here forever!" She exclaimed, turning back to Andrew. "Andrew, you and I will tail them. We have the weapons, so it'll be safer for them to lead."
The male, though a somewhat hesitant, nodded.
"And do either of you know where the closest emergency exit is?" She asked the short girls.
Jennifer nodded. "Pretty much mapped the place in my head."
"Okay, you'll lead, then on my mark we run." Marie said, used to taking the lead.
Andrew took a quick glance at Zena and Jen, both readying themselves for the charge and obviously terrified and confused. Before he could attempt to say something reassuring, they had started to run at full speed. Marie shoves his shoulder harshly and he starts moving, following a little ways behind his short friends at front. It wasn't long after they ran out when fast footsteps started to follow. He was about to look over his shoulder when Marie hissed loudly at him.

"Don't."

Despite her hard tone, she didn't want him to see the horrors she had witnessed in close quarters. No one should ever witness what she did, the chaos, the bloodshed.

Meanwhile at front, Jennifer had long since started to have trouble catching up. She still had the energy to run, wanting to live and all that, but she let Zena run farther ahead than her.
"Okay, okay, take a turn there and run straight ahead, the exit will be right in front of us." She instructed quickly, the sounds of monstrous growling and screeching sending bad vibes all around her.
When she had turned around for a quick moment, Jen saw Andy and Marie smack the creatures away from their little group. They struggled as they ran, but still caught up. Well, they were more athletic than Zena and her. It didn't help that as they ran, the doors of once-quiet classrooms smelled of rotten flesh and housed vicious monsters she didn't want to stop and gawk at. As the two girls turned, something at the front turned to look back.

It was a male wearing some sort of stripped shirt that was terribly torn up. Guts fell from his stomach and he was missing one of his cheeks, as it looked to have been chewed off. Under his feet, a girl with bleach blonde hair lay still. A puddle of blood pooled around her as she stayed unmoving. Jen wanted to puke, she knew those kids. They were Jason and Madeline from her department. The shock causes her to nearly trip, but somehow Zena caught her. "Don't slow down, we can run past him." She exclaimed, looking at the zombie straight on.
Though unsure, Jennifer nodded and continued to run, speeding up even more. Just run past him, just run past him, just run past him.
The monster that was once Jason hissed as the girls continued to run towards him, then let out an ear-piercing screech as he started to run back at them. The redhead had her eyes set on the doors behind him, and as she was a closer target, the zombie lunged at her. Blood dripped from its' jaws, unhinged, as it attempted to take a bite of her.

CRACK!

With all the force she could exert, Zena let out the most powerful right hook she'd ever done. Jennifer yelped as Jason's body flew past her as she ran past poor Madeline's corpse. The ginger-haired girl let out a silent cheer as she continued to run.
"Nice one, Zena!" Jennifer cheered tiredly. The two ran out of the doors and down the entrance stairs, stopping a little ways to see if their friends would make it.
In the back, Andrew and Maria fended off the zombies that manage to get a little too close for comfort, exclaiming in a semi-panic when Jason came flying towards them.
"Jesus Christ—!" The tall male exclaimed, then looked back at front to see they were close to the entrance.
He grinned widely, and taking the girl's wrist, he ran with as much speed as he could muster.
"Wh—!!" Maria didn't have time to express her arguement, boy was he fast.
Slamming out the exit, she yelled at the girls who waited for them in a short moment. "Keep running! Head out the gates!"

Zena and Jennifer nodded swiftly, watching as Andrew whizzed past them and followed to the best of their abilities. He lets go of Maria so she could run properly, and as they approached the school's gates, she hopped and grabbed at the bars, not missing a beat as she reached the top and hopped down.
"Dude since when could you climb gates?!" Jennifer asked in an incredulous tone, hopping up and off with as much ease.
Peeking from behind the ginger snd the brunet, the crowd of zombies slowed from behind them, but ther were still a handful that were determined to get the group. "Oh, hurry up you two!!" She hissed, watching helplessly as both Andrew and Zena had a bit of a struggle.
Soon enough, the two hopped off, just before the arms of ex-college students and friends attempted to swipe at them.
The group rushed off a safer distance away from the gate, huffing tiredly as they eyed what used to be their old school.
Zena looked at Andrew, who looked at Jennifer, who then looked at Maria. Then the trio all looked at the girl with a ponytail, who raised an eyebrow. Jennifer asked the same question again Andrew had in the bathroom.

"What the fuck is going on?"
